Southdown took delivery of 112 Leyland Titan PD2/12 between 1951 and 1956. These were bodied by Beadle, East Lancs, Leyland, Northern Counties and Park Royal. 805 (RUF 205) an East Lancs bodied example survived into preservation and is seen at he Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, East Sussex in 1989.

Nice to see the preserved No.8 as 5 days previously I had phot. No 10 being towed away for scrap at Rawtenstall. KTE728 is a 1949 Leyland PD2/1-Leyland and is here near Sowerby Bridge. 9/8/70.

Leyland PD2 XS6910 was new to Youngs of Paisley in 1950, taken over by Western SMT in 1951 and sold by them to Patons of Renfrew in 1968. Seen here leaving Bridge Street and Paisley Abbey behind, to negotiate the roundabout which was situated at the crossroads of Orchard Street, Bridge Street, Lonend and Johnstone Street.

LFS 417 having a wash! One of the Leyland PD2/20s that replaced the bulk of the trams in the mid-1950s, 417 has the silver relief version of the castle used on the city crest - must dig mine out!
The photo shows the then new, in 1953, Dawson bus washing machine in Gorgie Depot as it was converted from tram to bus operation. The photo appeared in the Transport Department's annual report for 1953/54.
This PD2 is from a batch of ten, 161-70(CEO948-57), new in 10/1958. Two are preserved, 169(CEO956) and sister 170(CEO957) with the Barrow Transport Group and this is still in existence, albeit in open-top form with an open-rear staircase. It is seen here on the A6 at Levens Hall, near Milnthorpe, Cumbria, awaiting a tyre fitter from Barrow after a 'flatty' halted our journey to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway when on a private hire for members of the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, IIRC, together with members of the then Furness Transport Group. The photo was taken in 04/1978 when the bus was still in use as a driver trainer with the Barrow undertaking at that time, although not on this occasion!! This bus still survives albeit with an open-staircase and modified and cut back top deck and operated as such in London and Edinburgh.
The film used was a Boots Colourslide II, with a Halina 1000 camera.

Former City of Manchester Leyland Titan PD2/34 Burlingham 3520 TNA520 is pictured outside the Manchester Museum of Transport on September 9th 2023.
This smart PD2 was new to the much missed enthusiast friendly Fishwick's, in 02/1958, and built to the lowbridge design with the off-side sunken gangway on the top-deck. These must've been really awkward to travel on upstairs whereby the seats are on the left hand side capable of seating four passengers with a bit of a step up to the seats and you were hemmed in by the window or even the middle pair and not much headroom to boot! This fine vehicle is seen here on display at the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust's Morecambe Rally & Running Day, who's main base for the day was the Mazuma Stadium, home of Morecambe FC, on 22/05/2022. © Peter Steel 2022.

Preserved 1951 Leyland Titan PD2 Double Decker Bus RTL1076 LUC253 on the right and 1964 AEC Routemaster Double Decker Bus RM1993 ALD993B both as operated by the London Bus Company, on display outside North Weald Station on the heritage Epping Ongar Railway (EOR) in Essex (UK).
LUC253 and ALD993B amongst other heritage London Bus Company buses operate the route 339 shuttle service between the Epping Ongar Railway at North Weald with Epping underground and Shenfield mainline Stations.

The PD2 came into this world 2 months before my hunger brother did! I often saw it in service from Litherland garage in the north of Liverpool.
This all-Leyland PD2/1 dates from around 1948, and gleams in the Florida sunshine after a fresh lick of paint to advertise McGuire’s Irish Pub in Destin FL. Does anyone know this vehicle’s UK history?

All-Leyland PD2 CCK 606 was new to Ribble Motor Services in 1948 and came to OK Motor Services in 1962 when 14 years old. It gave five years' service before despatch to Morley's scrap yard at Shildon in 1967. This digitally-coloured image, based on an unaccredited black & white print, depicts CCK 606 at the Chester Road terminus in Bishop Auckland, about to work an Evenwood service (21-Jul-12).

Preserved Glasgow Corporation open top Leyland Titan PD2 L108, FYS 8 (ex-SGD 10, LDS 388 A, HSK 953) has bodywork built in the Corporation's own workshops and is pictured at an open day at the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Turst's Bridgeton Bus Garage. This bus was converted to open top after an accident whilst on driver training duties, which probably aided its survival through the Greater Glasgow and later Strathclyde P.T.E. eras to pass to Strathclyde Buses before being sold into preservation. It later returned to revenue earning service when it was bought by Edinburgh based Mac Tours (#6). After Mac Tours was acquired by Lothian Buses (#28) this vehicle was again sold into preservation which didn't last long before returning to use on a Glasgow city tour operated by Glasgow Corporation Transport Limited, which was later acquired by First Glasgow, this bus being numbered 39998 in the First Group national numbering scheme. Its brief time with First Glasgow makes L108 the only bus ever to run for Glasgow Corporation, GGPTE, SPTE, Strathclyde Buses and First Glasgow. No other buses in existence can ever match this feat! Finally, it was sold to Glasgow City Council for (yet another) return to preservation and is presented in the livery it carried when new.
