Sometimes things come in waves: bills, news, emotions. We think we are finally past it and it swoops up behind you and surprises you again. Don't be afraid to face it. In fact, embrace those feelings. If we sweep them all under a rug for another time then those feelings may never get resolved and will end up bottled inside. The purpose in life is for personal growth in all arenas. Sometimes it seems as if it would be easier if we could hide, but that isn't a solution. Look! Look ahead of you! See the beautiful world laid out –designed especially for you! Look at the beauty contained within! We were given this beautiful gift; all we have to do to enjoy it is to do that personal work. When we work on ourselves we will see the beauty within us and the world. Don't be afraid –you can do it!

What makes you, you?

Your identity is made up of multitudes — the stories you carry, the music you love, the challenges you overcome, the books you read, the communities you’re a part of, and more. But your identity is a colorful blend of not only what you consume or create, but also the questions you ask and what you’re willing to learn.

In her CreativeMornings talk, Lucy Bellwood shared, “When we box ourselves too tightly into a single identity or career path, we deprive ourselves of the nutrients necessary to remain connected to the world around us. We are lacking in vitamin curiosity.“

The things that make you unmistakably you are not just the eclectic edges, but the simple pillars, beliefs, and values that you simply can’t shake. What sort of spirit or energy do you bring to a room? How do you show up in the world? What are your pillars?

The most unique care and love you can give to your creative identity is to craft it with your own hands.

We are super excited to have on this month’s exploration of Identity Dr. Basmala Qasim Al-Lawati, a doctor and a mother in various ways...

Join us for live music, coffee and pastries from 8:30 am-11 am; the session will commence at 9 am sharp. Registration will start at 8:30 AM SHARP! The talk will be in Arabic.

Can self realization overcome sickness? ...yes... after attaining self realization you will be separate from the one who is suffering the pain. Hence the pain will be there but you will not feel it.

On Sets of ”Abstruse Gumption“

I wanted to do faces on book pages. Since I've been worried about my abilities to do faces I chose the page: How to Overcome an Inferiority Complex. I used pencil, oil pastel and watercolor. I followed an online tutorial by Lynne Hoppe: www.artinstructionblog.com/mixed-media-art-technique…

I did not use the Gouache or the colors she used. I did use the 8B pencil on top of my mechanical pencil line (the confidence builder with a thin layer). I see her influence in this but I am not as loose as she is with color and line. I followed the tutorial loosely doing what I usually do but adding things like the blending of watercolor with the oil pastel which I didn't do well and want to learn. Gouache is still something of a mystery to me and I would like to learn how to use it but when I have something I like the gouache usually covers it up and wrecks it. So I shy away from it. I thought it was good to face my fears and try this. It is not in my courage book though it's in my heart book. My hearts desire is to draw better and I am doing a little bit towards it in limited time and I can see my results showing improvement now. It is heartening that I can make a face.

Story Studio: Visibility's Ripple Effect in Empowering Recovery

“Recovery” often conjures images of someone overcoming substance abuse with clinical and community support. Today, opioid addiction has the highest mental health-related mortality rate, and the crisis continues to grow. . There has been a staggering 45 percent increase in substance use disorder cases globally over the past decade, impacting 39.5 million people in 2023 alone. However, until recently, the deadliest mental health crisis was rarely discussed or recognized globally: eating disorders. Now considered the second most deadly psychiatric illness, the number of those suffering from eating disorders has more than doubled in the past decade, with one person dying each hour in the United States alone. Both disorders thrive in silence and are shrouded in stigma. In this Story Studio session, we’ll break that silence. We will explore inspiring stories of people working to create solutions for recovery, whether at home or through large-scale social interventions. Participants Adebayo Alonge Founder and CEO, RxAll Sean Daniels Founder and Anti-Stigma Director, Recovery Project & Live Tampa Bay Lindsay Ell Artist Jessica Geschke Senior Project Manager, Overdose Response Network, Clinton Global Initiative Elise Hu Podcast Host, TED Johanna Kandel Founder and CEO, National Alliance for Eating Disorders Eva Maria Trujillo-Chivacuan CEO and Co-Founder, Comenzar De Nuevo
