The towering monument on the north side of the nave commemorates Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (d.1852). The monument was designed and sculpted by Alfred Stevens, beginning in 1857 but not being completed until seven years after Stevens's death in 1912 when the equestrian statue of the Duke by John Tweed was added.
Like many great cathedrals St Paul's in London contains many dramatic sculpted monuments and memorials. However those at St Paul's often shock me somewhat with their overly military theme, with seemingly far more sculptures devoted to pagan figures than Christian ones (quite unlike those at other cathedrals, this one can seem more a temple to War or Nationalism rather than to Christ!).
The most interesting pieces in my opinion are the damaged Elizabethan effigies in the crypt that survive from Old St Paul's (very much scarred and blackened by the Great Fire of London) along with John Donne's shrouded figure by Nicholas Stone in the south choir aisle.

A Woman A Man Walked By
April,
how could
I not have
seen
April,
you
coming?
April,
how could
I have worn
in-appropriate
clothing?
April,
all that
careful
stepping,
rounding
of my soul,
and now
your rain.
April, I feel you leaving.
I don't know what silence means.
It could mean anything.
April,
won't you
answer
me?
These days
just seem
to crush
me.
Hatching,
collapsing,
tumbling
down.
April!
What if
I drown!
April, I see you leaving.
I don't know what silence means.
It could mean anything.
Won't you answer me?
I dreamed,
April,
that I'm walking,
that I'm watching
your rain.
It overcomes me.

Le Chene Hotel - every morning and evening Goldie and I walked to the traffic lights, turmed left and went down to the woods exploring - it eventually leads to beach and cliff path. One morning Goldie caught a rabbit and we had a long discussion and chase - she wanted to keep it to take it back to hotel - I wanted it to run in the woods. Finally she dropped the rabbit and it scampered off, physically unhurt but mentally and emotionally scarred.
Friday 15 May
6am up and walk thro woods.
After breakfast we walked to get No 6 bus at crossroads - Chris driver, met Micky on bus.
Went into Tourist Info Office to use computer to try to work out how to get from Weymouth to Bristol. Rang Radio Jersey spoke to Lisa.
10.30am Sarah Walker rang from Radio Berkshire pre-recorded interview - good.
10.45 we got No 7 bus to Pleinmont - driver Ivor. We planned to walk round point but the sky was glowering at us so Goldie and I went on the beach for a run. Then the sky split open and, whether we wanted it or not, we got a shower with full pressure on. We managed to get back to the bus shelter before we were completely soaked.
Chris pulled up in his bus and we jumped on. Chris gave a running commentary of what we might see as he drove along the coast - I managed to discern the Camel and Lion Rocks he pointed out. I chatted to Mavis and Ron from Kent.
We got off bus in town and we set off to find the Elim Church for a coffee. We found it in Union Street and had a lovely chat with Ministers Malcolm and Sandy.
3.30pm we got the 6N bus to Bray Road to look for Guernsey Press I got off at the wrong end and had a long walk to find it. (NB it is next to Alliance which I have since found is a cut price grocery store)
Inside the press offices everyone was warmly welcoming. I was interviewed by Amy and Jules.
Chris Raynor rang from Radio Jersey to make an appointment for 5.30pm Mon. Sorry Goldie - it's only a short journey!
From the press offices we walked to The Road near the sea to get a bus from Halfway to the Ferry Terminal. Arrived there 5.30pm and booked ferry for Monday - Matt was really kind and helpful.
We walked into town and we were starving. Dix Neuf restaurant said I could sit outside with Goldie and eat. I talked to Karen who has a clothes shop in town. The meal was excellent - lamb shank mash and veg £17
7.15pm we got the No 7 bus - driver Helen with trainee.
back to Le Chene - a walk in the woods and then bed.
Saturday 16 March
Went to St Martins on bus to find dog food and bed and see vet to help Goldie overcome trauma of ferry travel.
Outside M&S met Judy and Sue who offered to look after Goldie whilst I went into shop. When I asked them where Charity Shops were they asked what i wanted and when i said I needed something for dog cage they offered me a dog bed!
Vet could not give me anything for Goldie so suggested milk before ferry trip.
Sue drove me back to Le Chene.
12.25 bus 7 to Town - driver Craig. Met Tom photographer from press - photos in bus station.
13.35 No 3 bus to Varazon Kiosk. Walked along beach up to Mont Saint and Kings Mill (met Nicole and Rick marathon walkers who put donation in box)and so to Saumarez Park. Salvatore in cafe - steak and salad and chips.
Went for bus - Judy pulled up in car and drove us back to le Chene.
Sunday 17 May
Rained heavily all night.
7am went for walk. Sue and Judy came at 8am with dog bed and milk (they have a milk round)
After breakfats we walked to Petit Bot and on to Le Gouffre. A beautiful sunny day with clear views from cliffs over sea. We met John and Margaret from Nottingham. Walked up to Occupation Museum - Dorothy let Goldie sit outside whilst I had a quick look round.
Went to forest Church met minister Linda - invited for coffee - lovely friendly people.
Walked to bus stop - raining. Pam and Kelvin gave us a lift to Longfire (Kelvin will show me walks round island when we come again)
Longfire hotel had roast beef and veg - £7.95. We sat outdied and only half way through the sky ripped open again - so Goldie got the meat and I rammed the vegetables down.
As soon as the rain abated we set off to walk to St peter's Church - the aisle slopes upwards! From there we followed the winding lanes to The Road to get a bus. The rain was driving down. At the road I decided to walk to the bus shelter at The Imperial Hotel. There we were rescued by Steve driving the No 7 bus. We met Lorraine from Wiltshire.
Steve told me where to get off bus to find ATM machine and then it was to the bus station for the 4.15pm No 7 bus, driver Ivor, to Le Chene.
We stripped off and I tried to dry us both and all our wet things - I had to have a dry rucksack and our PCUK T shirts for the trip to Jersey the day after.
The sun came out and we had a walk with Susan and Alison who were staying in the hotel. - they gave a donation of £5
And so to bed.
Anti-Catholic, Nazi, propaganda cartoon from 'The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich' - published in 1940 by Burns Oates.
Shows a Jesuit from the Catholic Church in league with Jews and Freemasons.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_persecution_of_the_Catholic_Ch...
Lying, atheist propaganda about Christians being in league with the Nazis - and that the Pope and Catholic Church were complicit in the persecution and of Jews has been propagated and spread by militant, atheist fanatics and other anti-Christian bigots since the end of the 2nd world war.
The truth ...
Hitler and the Nazis were pagan, naturalist, occultists with racial superiority and eugenics policies based on the writings of the German Darwinist, Ernst Haeckel.
They were haters of Christianity and, just like the atheists in all the brutal, communist regimes, their ultimate aim was to eliminate Christianity.
"We live in an era of the ultimate conflict with Christianity. It is part of the mission of the SS to give the German people in the next half century the non-Christian ideological foundations on which to lead and shape their lives. This task does not consist solely in overcoming an ideological opponent but must be accompanied at every step by a positive impetus: in this case that means the reconstruction of the German heritage in the widest and most comprehensive sense."
— Heinrich Himmler, 1937
Here is the real history in "Facts and Documents Translated from the German" and published at the time.

"The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich" Published in 1940 is full (565 pages) of translated copies of original Nazi documents and cartoons lambasting the Church from the 1930's - 1940.
What about quotes from Hitler's writing and speeches, frequently presented by atheists, which allegedly show that Hitler supported Christianity?
It is well known that what Hitler said and what Hitler actually did were two entirely different things. Hitler didn't want to risk antagonising Christians in Germany. So he attempted to give the impression that he was on their side, however, the actions of the Hitler's National Socialist Party proved the exact opposite, as shown in this book.
And - even if Hitler claimed to be Christian, he couldn't have been, because he directly opposed the teaching of Jesus and the Church. This means he was an heretic and therefore would be automatically excommunicated.
Anyone who knows anything about Christianity knows that simply calling oneself Christian doesn't make one Christian. An heretic cannot be a Christian.
So Hitler and the Nazis were not Christian, they totally disregarded Christian, moral teaching and the Ten Commandments.
They believed in situational ethics and moral relativism (which is the essence of the atheist, Humanist Manifesto) just as Stalin, Mao and all the atheist tyrants of the 20th century did.
So Hitler's moral and ethical values were akin to atheist morals and ethics, inasmuch as they had no definitive yardstick. The Nazis abandoned the moral and ethical values of Christianity and were left with ephemeral ethics - which are reliant only on the situation, opinion or fashion. Just like the Humanist Manifesto, with no definitive, moral yardstick or inalienable, God-given rights, there can be no moral or ethical absolutes - right can be deemed to be wrong, and wrong can be deemed to be right. It varies according to the situation or what is judged to be 'necessary'. it is a recipe for tyranny.
Hitler was not strictly an atheist in belief, but he was similar in his ethical and moral relativism.
His ideology is best described as Darwinian inspired paganism. There are documents in this book which prove the Nazis were pagans, not Christians.
There are also documents reproduced in the book which prove that the Church hierarchy did not support the Nazis, that is why so many priests etc. were arrested, imprisoned and tortured on trumped-up charges.
So we know that, as Hitler rejected the teaching of Jesus on morals, he could not possibly be a Christian, regardless of what anyone claims.
The moral values of Christianity are the Ten Commandments and the values espoused in the teaching of Jesus and His Apostles.
Anyone who rejects those values, cannot claim to either be a Christian or to be acting as a Christian. They are based on two principles of loving God and loving one's neighbour (and even enemies) as oneself.
Every Christian has to aspire to those principles. If they fail through weakness they are guilty of sin, for which they can be forgiven with sincere repentance. If they deliberately reject those moral principles they forfeit the right to call themselves Christian. So, it is not possible for a true Christian to knowingly support a tyrannical regime such as the Nazis or the Communists, which murders, tortures or persecutes innocent people. If they do, they cease to be Christians, no matter what they may claim to the contrary.

It is obvious from the Nazi cartoon in the image above that the Nazis themselves certainly didn't think the Church or Pope were complicit in supporting Nazism. On the contrary, they obviously thought the Church was complicit in supporting the Jews. Which was in fact, the real truth as presented in the book below - written by a Jewish Rabbi.
'The Myth of Hitler's Pope' - How Pope Pius XII rescued Jews from the Nazis. by Jewish Rabbi David G Dalin.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/0895260344/ref=cm_cr_dpvoterdr?...
What about books, such as; 'Hitler's Pope' by the journalist John Cornwell, which claim that Pope Pius XII was complicit in the persecution and murder of Jews by keeping quiet about the crimes of the Nazis?
Cornwell's book has been completely discredited.
Catholics who attended church in Nazi Germany were left in no doubt that the Church opposed the Nazi regime well before 1940.
'The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich' 1940 - has page after page of contemporary source material, such as translated copies of Pastoral letters, Encyclicals and Sermons issued by Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals read in German churches at the time, including one from a combined Pastoral of Bishops, which criticise the National Socialists and point out the Nazis opposition to Catholicism and Christian civilisation.
Furthermore, Cardinal Pacelli, who became Pius XII, was one of them. And he was singled out for vilification by the Nazis in the Nazi publications of the Schwarze Corps.
So the idea that Catholics didn't know that the Church opposed Hitler and the Nazis is complete balderdash.
Catholic newspapers and publications were systematically banned or censored at the time. So Encyclicals and sermons were the only voice the Church had within Germany.
All German radio and newspapers were controlled by the Nazis. They wouldn't have publicised any public pronouncement by the Pope or any other opposition from the Catholic Church.
So the Church certainly wasn't silent - or complicit with the Nazis. And thousands of Catholics and priests were imprisoned, tortured and executed for being in league with Jews and also falsely accused of being in league with Freemasons and Communists.
The Nazis considered the Catholic Church (and other Christians) an enemy within.
And overwhelming evidence shows that the Pope was actively organising the escape of thousands of Jews from the Nazis. Vatican Radio had to keep the Pope's involvement out of the news in order not to undermine or damage the rescue effort.
The Pope was well aware that antagonising the Nazis with worldwide, public pronouncements from Vatican Radio would lead to an increased crackdown on priests and other Catholics who were working undercover to help Jews escape. It would have been completely counterproductive.
It is very significant that the Jewish Historian, Martin Gilbert, the biographer of Winston Churchill, who knew much more than Cornwell, or any other historical 'revisionists' wanted Pope Pius to be given the title Righteous among Nations.
“As one of the world’s leading experts on the Holocaust and WWII, Sir Martin was well aware of the lifesaving efforts of Pope Pius XII, most especially to save the Jews from the barbarism of the Nazi regime,” Krupp told the Register. “It was Sir Martin who encouraged me to nominate Eugenio Pacelli (Pope Pius XII) to Yad Vashem to be named ‘Righteous Among Nations.’”
"In an interview in 2007, Gilbert explained how the wartime pope’s interventions and protestations directly helped to save 4,700 Jewish lives in Rome and that 477 Jews were given refuge in the Vatican. He also documented other ways in which Pius XII rescued Jews persecuted by the Nazis."
"In an earlier interview in 2003, he hoped his research would “restore, in a way, on the foundation of historical fact, the true and wonderful achievements of Catholics in helping Jews during the war.
Pave the Way Foundation also filmed an interview with Gilbert, during which he discussed his personal research on the actions of Pope Pius XII during World War II.
He was eager to see the Holocaust museum Yad Vashem open a file on Pius to study his worthiness to be included in the institution’s “Department of the Righteous.” He also wanted to see the wartime archives opened to the public so that historians could better understand Pius’ role."
Sir Martin Gilbert estimates the Catholic Church saved up to half a million Jewish lives.

Of course, this is all available in the public domain, but still atheists and other anti-Christian bigots persist in ignoring the truth and continue to propagate distortions and lies. Their motivation is not historical accuracy, but militant, ideological fanaticism.

It was a beautiful spring day in Montana June 7, 2014, when an estimated crowd of 2,000 attended the Welling Up for Watershed Festival & Fishing Derby. Each year the event is held in conjunction with the Watershed Festival, which is organized by the Montana Outdoor Science School. Based on the number of rainbow trout caught, cleaned, and bagged, approximately 600 kids took part in the pond derby. The derby was highly successful thanks to Bozeman Fish Technology Center, Aquatic Animal Drug Approval Partnership, and Montana Fish & Wildlife Conservation Office staffers and volunteers. Many of the parents and children in attendance praised the event and expressed gratitude for the volunteers and organizations involved. One exuberant mother of two boys exclaimed: "this event is a great example of what Bozeman is all about!" The largest fish caught weighed 7.5 pounds.

At times like these when you feel so low you are meant to talk to someone, let out your feelings, open up your (I suspect mine is probably rather cold) heart, but I have always found at the times when I feel at my lowest I am also at my most irritable, sarcastic, caustic, closed off, blinkered and selfish - The perfect combination of social skills to end all of your friendships on one fell swoop. All that you want is some kind of distraction from your own stupid mind and you look to friends to give you some hysterical laughter – the poor bastards, what can they possibly do sat with some Silas Marner-faced catatonic loon who responds to nothing but the offer of another wine.
I always hear of artists and writers producing their best work when they are miserable. I just cannot comprehend how they overcome the temptation to just sit and decay and over digest their own thoughts. How are they able to produce anything more than just a page of swearwords or a slashed up canvas? or simply a photograph of the bed that they have spent the last 6 months in?
In fact Saatchi’s next exhibition could be simply an empty gallery; all of the chosen artists were too depressed and lazy to produce any work. The spaces where their work should have been hung would be auctioned for millions and critics will rave about the ‘potential’ of each artist. The exhibition is to be titled ‘CREATIVE SLUMP’ - For those who can be bothered to turn up it is £15 entry, for those who can’t be bothered, it is free.
Dessau-Törten Housing Estate & Konsum building, Germany
During the Weimar Republic there was an acute shortage of affordable housing. Overcoming this shortage called for the involvement of the public sector in order to provide affordable housing under the premise of ‘light, air and sun’ for a large share of the population. The construction of the Dessau-Törten Housing Estate was thus commissioned by the city of Dessau. The estate was conceived by the Bauhaus as a solution for cost-effective mass housing. Walter Gropius' Konsum Building, constructed in 1928, now introduces visitors to the history of the estate. A permanent exhibition provides insight into the idea and vision, the construction history and residents.
The estate of terraced houses, designed by Walter Gropius and built over three phases of construction, comprised 314 terraced houses with floor spaces measuring from 57 to 75 m2. Each house had its own kitchen garden measuring from 350 to 400 m2 to grow vegetables and practice animal husbandry, thus promoting self-sufficiency.The estate included diverse housing typologies. As part of a trial, the client wished to study the rational manufacture of residential housing as well as the suitability of new building materials and industrial products. The building site was organised like an industrial production line. Specialised labour brigades built several houses simultaneously during one construction phase. Building components such as precast concrete joists were made on-site and transported with a small wagon and by crane. The light-coloured cubes were arranged as pairs of semi-detached houses, the layout of one a mirror image of the next, in groups of four to twelve units. The facades were subdivided by vertical and horizontal strip windows. The construction of the houses was governed by the imperative of building in a cost-effective manner. Load-bearing walls were built using prefabricated slag concrete hollow blocks and the floors with reinforced concrete beams. Light tones were used for the interiors. The Bauhaus also advertised furnishings for the interiors, but there was no demand for these items.
That little trace remains today of the original homogeneity of the estate is due to flaws in construction and design, which have been redressed by owners and residents. Only the too-high strip windows were modified according to a consistent plan. The first house was restored to its original condition in 1992. Since then a maintenance and design statute ensures that any structural measures taken are in harmony with the historical substance.

My dance is a lyrical routine that encourages the world to "overcome" hate and racism. The song is special because it is a remix of an old song Civil Rights leaders would sing while fighting against inequality. The choreography begins with soft movements, but as the music builds, so does the movement. To change the world, we start with little things like being kind to each other. As things get bigger, we do bigger things. I will change the world by being kind, loving, and supportive and by learning about others beliefs. I will change the world by changing me!

The best way to overcome the world!
"Do not love the world or anything in the world." 1 John 2:15
(Thomas Chalmers)
There are two ways in which a person may attempt to displace the love of the world from the heart:
1. By a demonstration of the world's vanity, so that the heart shall be prevailed upon simply to withdraw its regards from an object that is not worthy of it.
"When I surveyed all that I had accomplished and what I had toiled to achieve--everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun!" Ecclesiastes 2:11
"This world is passing away along with its desires!" 1 John 2:17
2. By setting forth another object, even Christ, as more worthy of its attachment, so that the heart shall be prevailed upon to exchange an old affection for a new one.
The best way to overcome the world, is not with morality or self-discipline. Christians overcome the world by seeing the beauty and excellence of Christ. They overcome the world by seeing something more attractive than the world--the Lord Jesus Christ!
"Yes, He is altogether lovely! This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend!" Song of Songs 5:16

This is a set of prints that were made from a Kodak FunSaver disposable film camera. There are no settings other than a small flash. The lens is plastic with a fixed aperture and shutter speed. The challenge was to come up with some prints for a Hayling Island Camera Club challenge. The camera film is asa 800 and was processed and printed on 9" x 6" Fujicolor Crystal archive paper..
I scanned the prints in on a Canon MP980 scanner. Only the original prints could be used for the challenge. However these scans have been enhanced and cropped in Lightroom CC.
These are my efforts using a camera that I have very little control of. I have learnt a few lessons and think that I could improve if I was to try again.
The little plastic lens is not the sharpest and there was no focus control.

‘Vince malum bono' is a Latin phrase which means ‘Overcome evil with good’ or ‘Defeat Evil with Good’. As humans, we all have both the ‘good’ characteristics in our personalities and the ‘dark’, more complicated ones. We often find ourselves in a position where one of the two extremes takes over and the two sides ‘fight’ with each other. I came up with this idea during a windy day, where I caught myself thinking how strange the weather can be sometimes. Sunny days can turn into cold, windy ones in a matter of seconds. Through my project I intend to show the difference between two extremes by producing a piece of Video Art, having the theme of ‘Good versus Evil’.
As an old Cherokee story, about two wolves says each person has two wolves inside of him/her; one wolf representing fear, anger and envy and another wolf standing for joy, peace and love. A fight between the two wolves is taking place inside each person, the winner being the wolf each of us ‘’ feeds”. With the phrase ‘Vince malum bono’, I intended to create a video that would present both sides of the story (both the positive and the negative) but at the end of the video, the ‘good’/positive side would eventually win. I decided to do this so that a positive, optimistic message will come out at the end of the video.
Initially, I had various ideas for the visuals of the video, including: kinetic typography, a visual representation of two wolves fighting with each other as a reference to the Cherokee story, a presentation of various contrasting colours etc. In order to present this contrast between the two opposite sides, I decided to create a montage of various videos showing elements from both perspectives which would act as a background for my final video. This background consists of various videos showing negative things (like thunderstorms, wind/rain, a tiger which is considered to be a wild animal, flames and a few scenes from a Korean War) as well as positive ones (such as flowers, birds and a clear sky). These videos were distributed in an order which was suitable for the audio track I had mixed myself for this project.
The audio track begins with the introduction of the instrumental version of ‘Me, Myself & I’ by G-Eazy which creates a mysterious atmosphere for what is going to follow. I chose to use this instrumental intro for the opening of the video, as its musical elements gave me the freedom to experiment with the visual parts and create the introduction I had imagined. The song is interrupted by an intense thunderstorm sound which is accompanied by an appropriate video. A very short piece (from the first song) was used right after the thunderstorm, as a bridge to a bird tweeting. The visuals during this part show a bird peacefully sitting on a tree branch followed by a shot of some beautiful yellow flowers. The calm atmosphere is interrupted again by a thunderstorm which acts as a bridge to the next musical part of the mix.
The musical part that follows is actually a small part from ‘Emerald Tiger’ by Vanessa Mae. Mae is considered to be one of the most influential violin players/performers, especially well-known for her instrumental pieces. I decided to include this specific piece into my audio mix as it is very suitable for the part of the video where the two sides (‘good vs bad’) fight with each other, as it creates an adventurous atmosphere which builds up tension in the overall scene. Having mentioned the fight of the two sides, at this point I will be describing the way in which this ‘fight scene’ will be represented.
Since the aim of the project is to create a piece of Video Art (an art piece) I decided to (the good and the bad) and give ‘life’ to the two sides by asking one of my closest friends and very talented dancer to impersonate the two sides by performing in front of a green screen a series of appropriate dance moves that would suit the two roles. While filming this, we had a limitation affecting our shots this being the lack of green-screen floor which did not give us the chance to shoot his entire body from head to toe. On the other hand this may have worked to our advantage, as the shots we took allowed me to capture his face from a closer view. Filming his expression was very important for the essence of the overall video, as he was not wearing any additional things that would make up for his expressions (like an ‘expression mask’). This was also one of the reasons I chose Alexandros for this project, as I believe that he is one of the most (if not the most) expressive dancer I personally know.
After filming my green-screen footage with the help of Alexandros, I transferred the material on my laptop where I later imported it in Adobe After Effects in order to remove the green background. Adobe Premiere was the software I used for the overall composition as it is one of the best video montage programs that are available on the market at the moment. However, I did not only use it for the video parts. The whole audio mixing of the various tracks/sound effects was also done in Premiere, as it gave the opportunity to easily manipulate these sounds using the many ‘audio tracks’ available which can be used simultaneously.
Deciding which parts of the footage would be added above each background shot/video was a crucial part of the development process, since I did not want any of the dancing footage to be ‘eaten by’ the background videos (for example, I did not want the viewers to concentrate on the shots of the wild tiger and ignore the live-action footage of the dancer). In order to achieve this, I also had to manipulate the opacities as well as the transitions from one video to another. At the final part of the video, I used the same instrumental as the beginning of the whole montage (‘Me, Myself & I’ by G-Eazy) but this time I used the ending of the song. At this final part, the ‘good side’ finally defeats the ‘bad’ one and the video comes to an end, leaving behind an optimistic message; even though each one of us has got characteristics from both sides, there should come a point where we allow the purity of our inner selves to overcome the ugliness and the confusion caused by our anger. According to Dalai Lama XIV, “We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves”.
January 3, 2023: Today’s prompt from @rachelastorauthor’s @dailyom program, WRITING TO UNCOVER THE AUTHENTIC SELF, asks: “Can you reframe the most pressing #obstacle as a to-do list? In other words, in order to overcome this, what do you need to learn? What tasks do you need to perform? Who do you need to convince?”
I believe I can reframe each of the 4 obstacles I explored over the past few days into more manageable #tasks. But at the same time I know I need to be very consistent at doing this.
For example, I was up past 3am today completing a few loads of #laundry (this included putting the #clothes away after taking them out of the #dryer), a load of #dishes, & also filling up half a #blue #recycling cart from @thecityofsurrey with #recycling from Mum’s garage.
But I still woke to criticism, as my dog looked for the right spot to leap off my bed at the guest room of my Mum’s to head outside at just after 9am. “Your room is a filthy disgrace,” are the words my Mum barked at me today. “And you live like you like it!” It’s odd how her words echo the ones my monkey mind is already so gifted at hurling towards myself.
When we argue & she says things like this, I snap back, “I don’t need you telling me how useless I am because I’m well aware of it already!” As such, both my Mum & my monkey mind are the ones I need to #convince that I am capable of up this mess I’ve created.
I finished my night around 4am taking this selfie inspired by a chapter in @mattzhaig’s book, NOTES ON A NERVOUS PLANET. Specifically, he says: “So this is the attitude to #sleep: something to be suspicious of because it is a time when we are not plugged in, consuming, paying. And this is also our attitude to time: something that mustn’t be wasted simply by resting, being, sleeping. We are ruled by the clock. By the light bulb. By the glowing smartphone. By the insatiable feeling we are encouraged to have. The feeling of this is never enough. Our happiness is just around the corner. A single purchase, or interaction, or click, away. Waiting, glowing, like the light at the end of a tunnel we can never quite reach…. Something has to give.”
This is day 3/365 in my #subverted #selfie #project.
