Ohh I miss summer :) This is from Solviken, outside Fredrikstad, Norway. Very popular campingsite in the summer and almost deserted in the winter. I shot it between dinner and desert in a party :)

Without a doubt, the alpinism is an amazing experience with a little bit of adrenaline dose and outstanding landscapes.

This image is taken during the ascent to Island Peak. After a big snowstorm, nobody had come at the summit, because a lot of snow. However, we decided to try. All in all, it was going to be an authentic adventure.

No obstante, decidimos intentarlo. Con todo, iba a ser una gran aventura.

Type of Dragonfly unknown.

I'm deducting the $20 it cost to enter the park from the overall $1,000,000 views. I think that's fair.

I wasn't totally sure what to expect since I've traditionally been a person who explores around home rather than do destination or tourist photography. It had been pleasant but windy most of the morning through New Mexico but now it was much colder (in the 40's), had higher swirling winds and a constantly dramatic sky. At one point, Scotch almost blew off a cliff. Then my camera nearly did the same.

My biggest regret was poor time management, I spent about 90 minutes covering the first 4 miles and about 30 minutes flying through the last 24 miles. I called the info line at about 4:55 when i realized i had another 15 miles to drive to make sure I wouldn't get...locked in. I may have even paid $40 for the fee. Who knows.

Taken at Bolton le Sands this shows a January sunset from Bolton le Sands, a quiet setting of the sun.

Taken, along with many other shots, a couple of years ago

I decided to post this photo from a while back. This picture was taken at Lake Shelbyville and as always in the morning. I had woke up and taken a glance outside and noticed how foggy it was. I knew I could get a great shot so I hurried up and got ready and once the sun came up it was a beautiful scene.

Looks good in LARGE. Just hit the L button!

I hope that you enjoy the photo my friends!

Thank you for all of your support! It really means a lot to me!

A small place outside Sarpsborg, Norway. Campingsite and small beaches surrounded by nice paths.

Sunrises confuse me. Panoramas confuse me. With that said, I decided to try and kill 2 birds with one stone and take advantage of a sleepless night.

I've always struggled with insomnia and prefer evening to morning. I'm rarely awake at sunrise, though it's not uncommon for me to fall asleep as it begins. When I do try, I'm normally a little late to arrive and my brain is on sunset by default. It's hard to see things in reverse. I could see the interesting clouds forming from my bed and finally just got up, got my gear together and left without waking the dog.

Panoramas are something I'm just now trying to figure out. Like sunrises, my brain has trouble shooting a panorama in portrait and doing everything at a very awkward angle.

I was the only person at the Hollywood Bowl Overlook when I arrived and I only had about 5 minutes of great sky and light before the haze crept in. This is a 3 shot stitched panorama from the Hollywood sign to the edge of the rising sun.

The blue and white of a Norwegian summer sky, reflected in the mirrorlike surface of Sognsvann, one of the forest lakes just outside of Oslo, Norway.

I hope you have a great weekend, wherever in the world you might be.

I was photographing some flowers outside yesterday morning, (in the rain-got soaked) and heard several flocks of geese flying overhead. I quickly snapped this shot, but I missed that gorgeous 'V' formation by a split second.

I'm not sure why these geese are so late in coming home, since I saw many flocks weeks ago, and was sure their migration was finished.

eta: I heard a bunch more honking last night in the middle of the night, very weird!

The weather here in Los Angeles now feels a lot like autumn back in DC...it just doesn't look like it. It's currently in the upper 40's and breezy thanks to the Santa Ana winds and while there's been some gloominess and rain, there are no colorful falling leaves anywhere.

I will get back to sunsets and reflections tomorrow but I wanted to post an autumn shot I took last November back in Maryland when the dog and I were out on a road trip to Pennsylvania. I remember this day pretty vividly actually, even a year later. I must have passed over this bridge in Rocky Ridge, Maryland dozens of times over the previous 6 months on my way out to explore with the camera and dog and for whatever reason, decided to stop this time and finally see what the view looked like into the water below. I had found what became my favorite waterfall only a few days earlier and now I was focused mostly on finding other sources of water for daytime long exposures with the neutral density filters. We were actually headed there after this but i pulled off the road and took a handful of low perspective shots while Scotch nervously looked on. He hates bridges and probably wasn't fond of me sitting in the middle of one with my camera and tripod.

My abilities and understanding of photography have improved greatly over the last year which is what I hoped would happen moving across the country. Part of it is the natural progression from learning through trial and error but I've also studied a lot of techniques and put in a ton of practice. What frustrates me most is when I take a shot I really love and have zero clue how to properly edit it. I try over and over and then give up, thinking I'll come back to it later when my editing skills improve more. Learning lightroom and photoshop from scratch is like learning a foreign language from scratch. Often, what looked great to me a year ago is now basically unacceptable and I often find myself rummaging through some of my old favorites and trying to edit them with a fresh set of eyes and new abilities.

At the time I shot this, I didn't have lightroom or photoshop, relying only on iphoto software and further, I edited them on my old tiny macbook with a really dark, cracked screen. The computer was so bad, I had to make small changes one at a time and then post them in a flickr folder to view on my iphone or ipad since they looked completely different on my laptop. I had previously posted a version of this a year ago but re-edited it from scratch using the methods and techniques I use now and am really glad I did. It's funny, I loved the original post of this but now looking back, I can't say I still feel the same way at all. It was way too dark, far too much contrast and missing a substantial amount of the details it had out of the camera. I kept meaning to redo it but kept getting sidetracked by newer and newer sets of images I'd take.

Tomorrow I will start posting some new images I took this past weekend on a very weird, rainy evening on Venice Beach but tonight I'm thinking about autumn, especially as it's now shifting to winter back in DC, where temperatures are in the low 30's at night. I always loved fall weather and some of the gloominess that came with it but really didn't appreciate it until I got into photography and then moved here. I do plan to mix in some more autumn shots from back home as well over the the next couple months, at least until I no longer miss it. There's almost nothing to complain about living in Los Angeles but I do wish Autumn was more like what I was used to and real trees were everywhere. To me, a palm tree is basically just a really strong, resilient weed. it grows in any conditions, doesn't need much water, and I think they're ugly :)

Perfect conditions for the Milky Way, calm, clear, and cool night with fantastic visibility... it was an amazing site to see it span the sky. Taken outside Woodland Park, CO. Many of the mountains are still bare from a forest fire 10 yrs ago.

Moulton Barn, Mormon Row, Grand Teton Park

The T. A. Moulton Barn is all that remains of the homestead built by Thomas Alma Moulton and his sons between about 1912 and 1945. It sits west of the road known as Mormon Row, in an area called Antelope Flats, between the towns of Kelly and Moose. Now lying within Grand Teton National Park, it is near the homestead of Andy Chambers. The property with the barn was one of the last parcels sold to the National Park Service by the Moulton family. Often photographed (according to Flixter it is the most photographed barn in America), the barn with the Teton Range in the background has become a symbol of Jackson Hole.

Val Thorens located in the Tarentaise Valley, Savoie, French Alps, is the highest ski resorts in Europe, at 2300 m altitude.

Given the high altitude of Val Thorens and the Glacier de Péclet the resort is often regarded as "snow sure". With the winter season lasting into early May and summer skiing on the glacier.

Many of its slopes face north and north-west, providing for good snow conditions. This means that the slopes are not as sunny, so the resort tends to attract a crowd more interested in skiing than "terracing." However, the resort itself faces south, and many people enjoy sitting outside in the sunshine when they have finished skiing. As well as a combination of 68 marked runs, Val Thorens also 5 terrain parks giving access to bordercross tracks, quarter pipes and jumps.

Val Thorens is the most international ski resort in France: more than 70% of its visitors are foreigners. While one will find people from all over the world in Val Thorens, British, Scandinavian, Belgian, Dutch and German tourists make up the majority.

Autumn is knocking on the door in Minnesota, my favorite time of the year. I have so many fall images from the past couple of years, I have decided to start posting the beautiful fall colors now.

Winter photo with minor cropping and re-sizing. Colors are natural though. This scene is taken from outside of the back door of the community room at the McFarlin Chelmsford housing. It is almost dusk in this photo. I like the hill and the glow of the lights on the snowy ground.

Quote: "Happily, in a world where nothing remains static, the Great Smoky Mountains provide the prescription to ward off ills and evils born of super-civilization. A single day spent in the Smokies away from the works of man is therapy to last a year. And with each passing year, the national park grows in value as a model of natural harmony." (Michael Frome, 1966)

I'm lucky to have a reason and the ability to visit beautiful places frequently.
