.....or so the BBC weather forecast tempted me with. On the basis of the forecast I drove west with a probable plan to head to Skye, but there was a degree of flexibility to be applied depending on the actual weather encountered. After a brief pit-stop in torrential rain at Claunie, first photo stop was Glen Shiel a few miles further on. It was still raining but this low cloud scudding along the base of the hills and the bright sun making a brief appearance made for a good first location.

Lehigh Valley Railroad Station is a historic railway station located at Ithaca in Tompkins County, New York. The Passenger Station and Freight Station were built in 1898 by the Lehigh Valley Railroad. The Passenger Station is a Classical Revival structure with a Romanesque feeling. It is a massive square building with extensions and sheltering roofs for baggage operations. At one corner is the entrance marquee and a four sided street clock mounted in a Corinthian column.

The altiplano of southwest Bolivia is one of the most fascinating corners of South America, holding not only the famous Salar de Uyuni, but geysers, salt lakes, rare wildlife, and 20,000 foot peaks. It's easy to hire a jeep and take off on multiday tour, all between altitudes ranging from 11,000 to 15,000 feet.

On our last night we were staying in a small village when I noticed a nice sunset coming on. I grabbed my gear and headed out to see if I could find something interesting to shoot. Just as peak color arrived, I noticed a llama herder pushing his animals toward a corral. A full on sprint across the village (not easy at 13,000 feet!) allowed me to capture this shot-- probably my favorite from my year in South America. It's fairly similar to one I posted several years back with some contrast and exposure bumps.

How cute is this little guy?!?

From Donald Gensler's web site:

PROJECT: Independence Starts Here

MURAL LOCATION: Hahnemann University Hospital (Intersection of Broad and Race, Philadelphia, PA).

The mural is approximately 12000 square ft. and is seven stories tall in height facing south on the Race St. side of Hahnemann University Hospital (75' x 160').

Within the design people with disabilities stand as monuments symbolizing different actors within a diverse and extraordinary community. These people are all from Philadelphia and of different races, genders, and backgrounds. Each person has a disability and is an engaged contributor to the various communities he/she represents.

There is also a screen or transparent tapestry that is layered over some of the main figures within the design. This screen has images of people with disabilities involved in all manner of activities within Philadelphia. Many are engaged within the creative process of making as a metaphor for growth and change. An additional element to the tapestry is the entire ASL alphabet finger spelling with corresponding letters underneath. Students from the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf modeled their hands for these painted characters. The twelve hands in color spell out the word “independence”.

The images in the screen are a testimony to the direct collaboration between Gensler (lead artist) and the community. Through a series of workshops and discussions, Gensler worked to understand some of the common ideologies and experiences within the disability community. This mural becomes a visual record of some of the people and groups within the disability community engaged and active in their lives.

One day I was sitting in my house thinking, “I wonder what is happening in the box next door?” Literally I sat 10 feet from my closest neighbors, yet I was all alone. I began to think of all the people that just sit in their boxes, wasting away at some pointless activity and never sharing moments with the outside world. These thoughts led to me wondering if my time spent here, whether in person or online, was even making a dent in the shape of the world.

After traveling to Indiana and meeting 30 people that I had never known in person before, it became very clear that even in the darkest of times, I can and do reach others, and it is always possible to make that even more of a reality. All 30 of us instantly connected on a level that lifetime friends do, and after experiencing how our art brought us together there, I am certain that many more people will break free of their boxes through the art we continue to create! After having some hesitation (already 2 nights of only 3-4 hours’ sleep) we decided to go to the south side of Snaefellsnes to the church of Hellnar. After having some coffee and a little nap I looked outside and saw something strange in the sky. By making a test photo I discovered it was the northern lights, but it was not so strong and green as I expected. Nevertheless we took our gear and tried to get some nice shots with the church.

A nice winter landscape from Kvæfjordeidet outside Harstad, Norway. The sunset lights up the landscape and sky with nice colors.

I was feeling good this morning so headed out to Hayfield for a walk over the hills in the spring sunshine. A bit chilly in the wind but great to be out in the fresh air.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park pre Wildfire.

I had read and heard about how Cathedral Rock outside of Sedona lights up under the right circumstances, and while there are many, many images of this iconic landmark, I had never been there and was anxious to shoot this location. We had been to Sedona a couple of days earlier, but it was overcast, cold and rainy with no hope of a sunset. In fact, that evening on our way back to Williams, it snowed heavily. A couple of days later, the sun was out, and with temperatures in the 70's we headed back. After scouting locations for a shoot in the afternoon, I headed back towards evening hoping to get the clouds and light. The park where I stopped and this particular location are very popular, and people came and went throughout the couple of hours I was here, snapping selfies and taking in the magnificent view. As I waited for the right moment, a couple from Michigan came by and we enjoyed pleasant conversation as we passed the time. As always it was the "is it going to happen or not" as clouds came and went and the rocks drifted in light and shadow. We waited and waited and I felt the time had passed for the shot I was after. I decided it was time to head back to town and find a place for dinner. I had my gear stowed and I was walking away when the clouds parted and the rocks lit up. I quickly got my gear back out and started to shoot. This happened again - putting everything away only to get things back out. In the end it was a great light show and I am glad I stayed. Ah, patience - so rewarding yet so difficult!

The evening I decided I needed to purchase a tripod and my introduction into lowlight photography

The name Manhattan derives from the word Manna-hata, as written in the 1609 logbook of Robert Juet, an officer on Henry Hudson's yacht Halve Maen (Half Moon). A 1610 map depicts the name as Manna-hata, twice, on both the west and east sides of the Mauritius River (later named the Hudson River). The word "Manhattan" has been translated as "island of many hills" from the Lenape language.

New York County is one of seven counties in the United States to share the same name as the state in which they are located. The others are Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Utah counties.

The United States Postal Service prefers that mail addressed to Manhattan use "New York, NY" rather than "Manhattan, NY"

I have recently (within the last 3 months) moved from Derbyshire, England to just outside Snowdonia, North Wales. Back in Derbyshire I had a love for taking long exposure waterfall shots however finding any falls was sometimes difficult. Here in North Wales I can't get away from them! Which makes going on a short walk rather difficult as I find myself reaching for the ND filter and the tripod every 5 minutes!

This shot is at Llyn Ogwen just next to the A5.

I miss those sunny days.

Wish you a great day too!

This was taken in 2011.

We have another sunny and warm day in the Easter weekend.

I went to Capilano River Regional Park in North Vancouver this morning. This is the park where Capilano Lake and Cleveland Dam are situated.

It is only 30 minutes drive from the city and we can see beautiful scenics of the lake.

The beautiful Capilano Lake can be easily viewed just right at the entrance of the park.

This view is 5 minutes walk from the parking lot.

I feel blessed to be living in Vancouver!

This late afternoon light on the Nisqually really sucked me in. We're looking west here with the great back lighting, and an excellent sunset happened a bit later. This is right beside the road on Skate Creek Road just outside of Ashford, WA. Hopefully I got something good from those later shots too.

I had the 50mm lens on there all day just enjoying it's look and rendition for a change. It handled this pretty well stopped down all the way. Thank you for your kind visits my friends. You are much appreciated!
