With this view, I decided to angle my SLR camera slightly downward. What I wanted to do was capture more of that look with the ripples from the wind across Vermilion Lakes. The eyes would eventually look to the other lake shore and trees, taking in the peaks of Sulphur Mountain and Mount Rundle. Above them were the clouds moving across the skies and sunlight caught on some of the openings with a little bit of blue here and there. Even with the temperatures hovering around 10°C (and even lower with the wind chill), this was a heavenly view to take in! Mountains and more mountains to admire and savor...for at least a few days :-)
and "Can I take it home?"
I thought this was so funny - usually it's small things people pick up, but this kid picked a huge branch to take for a walk along the beach :-D
Taken at Himatangi beach, NZ. You can just see Mt Taranaki (one of our volcanoes) on the horizon in the middle. It's on land a long way north of us - the coast gradually curves around to that point.

Powderham Castle
'Powderham Castle is located in a unique, picturesque setting just outside Exeter, beside the Exe estuary. Six hundred years of history are contained within the walls of one of England's oldest family homes. Sir Philip Courtenay began building it in 1391 and it has remained in the same family to this day, currently home to the 18th Earl & Countess of Devon'..

Looe is a beautiful little fishing town and seaside resort on the south-east coast of Cornwall. I first came here with my parents when I was a young lad, and I've been coming back ever since. For the past few years I've had a holiday home just outside the town.
West Looe and East Looe were once separate towns sitting on steep hillsides and divided by the Looe River, but now they are just the one town. The river is home to numerous yachts and small boats, as well as to Looe's fishing fleet, and there is a large fish market on the east bank of the river. The fishing boats are all "day boats" - going out to sea and returning the same day - so the fish is the freshest possible.
I didn't have my usual Nikon D7000 with me, so borrowed Judy's i-Phone to take this shot.
I think I can see where Edvard Grieg got his inspiration from.

Camiguin is an island province of the Philippines located in the Bohol Sea, about 10 kilometers off the northern coast of Mindanao. The island of Camiguin is of volcanic origin and composed of four young stratovolcanoes overlying older volcanic structures. These include Mt. Vulcan and Mount Hibok-Hibok, still considered active having last erupted in 1953.
During the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vulcan that lasted from 1871 to about 1875, after continuously spewing out lava into the sea, it gained a height of nearly 2,000 feet and submerged areas of Catarman, including the town’s cemetery. Today, all that remains of old Catarman are the ruins of an ancient Spanish San Roque church, a convent and a bell tower. Remnants of the structures and gravestones of the cemetery were still seen during low tide until 1948 when Mount Vulcan erupted for the fourth time, which buried the area deeper by 20 feet. In 1982, a large cross was built on the solidified lava to mark this old gravesite.

Female Kingfisher (Alcedo attis). At last, after several tries, I managed to see and get some decent shots of a Kingfisher so please forgive me if I do share quite a few as I just love these stunning birds.
A beautiful couple free and in flight at early morning. Much better seen large.
Have a wonderful week ahead!
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

A happy Anhinga displaying his reward.
From Cornell:
The Anhinga dives from the surface of the water and swims slowly underwater stalking fish around submerged vegetation. The diet consists of many small- to medium-sized wetland fishes, with very small amounts of crustaceans and invertebrates. Anhingas typically spear fish through their sides with a rapid thrust of their partially opened bill. Usually stabs with both mandibles, but may use upper mandible only on small fish. The side-spearing habit of the Anhinga suggests that the usual hunting method is by stalking rather than pursuit.
Floating Garden Observatory is situated at the top floor of Umeda Sky Building in Osaka, Japan. The building is one of the leading landmarks of Osaka Prefecture. The place is probably one of the most rare places around the world. This is because there is no glass in front and so that the images of night landscape can be perfectly well taken!! The visitors stand outside at the top floor and can see a 360 degree magnificent cityscape. This is a place I would love to recommend any Osaka visitors to go! A Winter season would be better to visit due to a clear air and less people. It would be cold but I will visit again. Join me! Please do not disturb loving couples. It is a highly romantic place too. :D
Most of my photos were taken in her presence. She's the reason I go to places I normally wouldn't go to, so she deserves a photo from time to time. ;) She doesn't really like playing a model, but sometimes she will sit still for few seconds for me.
I love her to pieces. :)
Terlingua is a small town outside the western edge of Big Bend National Park in Far West Texas, not far from the border with Mexico. I spent a couple of hours in Terlingua at the auto shop getting my tire patched from the u-shaped hook I had picked up in Big Bend. I knew this since the guy at the tire shop showed it to me. I had already spent a couple of days limping through the vast park.
Far West Texas is vast and remote. This is somewhere near Terlingua on the road north, beginning the long portion of my trip back home, or at least in that direction. I still had a few more days to go before driving home. All is well with a repaired tire and a cooler of drinks and food to carry me through.
