A Japanese Cypress forest on the Azores island of Faial with its unique colours and alluring smells. There are only very few places outside of Japan and China, were Japanese Cypress has been cultivated and the Azores are one of such places. The forest lies near to the crater of an extinct volcano and an excursion along those parts is of incredible appeal. I posted this today since I thought it to be the most amazing contrast to the previous forest in Norway, which was also shot on a December day another year. To see the difference of seasons with both places being in the Atlantic was quite interesting.

This is the only species of wild hare or rabbit in Sri Lanka. Surprisingly, it still holds out on the outskirts of Colombo. Outside the protected areas it is nocturnal due to poaching and threats from domestic dogs and cats.

I took a day trip over to La Grange on Sunday. It was so funny. I felt like I was in a ghost town. No one was walking around, everything was closed, I had the whole historical district to myself, which was find with me..:) Here's some info on the court house:
Texas courthouse architect James Riely Gordon designed this 1891 Romanesque Revival courthouse.
Rare among courthouses, this structure originally had an open atrium at its center providing ample natural ventilation and lighting, and featured a large fountain, cast iron sculptures, and tropical plants. Enclosed for vaults and office space many years ago, the atrium was reopened recreating what is sure to be one of the most uniquely beautiful features to be found in a courthouse in this state.
The entire building was restored to its historic appearance in a manner that will provide both aesthetic beauty and functional utility for the county.
Work began in June 2003 and was completed in March 2005.

Just as I entered Wyoming from South Dakota, I saw these three fillies trotting along the ridge and fence line, the strong freezing wind blowing their tails forward. Gives more meaning to a "tail wind".
Fortunately for me there wasn't much traffic on I-90 New Year's Eve, and a nice shoulder to pull over to. Just had to stop and shoot out of the drivers side window. I hardly got cold at all.

I went to Seguin, Texas yesterday, about an hour drive from my house, to do a photo shoot and the rain was pouring down when I got there. I saw a picture of this dam on google and thought with the heavy rain it should make a really good shot. I started on the other side, in the rain, and took a few shots, but I wasn't happy with them. So, I drove out of the park over the bridge and into the old mill area, jumped out of the car, took a couple of shots and ran back to the car. Something only a photographer would do to get the best shot..:) I'm a little disappointed that you can't really see the rain that well..:(
Saffold Dam:
Named for William Saffold, who owned land here in the mid 1800's, Saffold Dam is typical of many mill dams built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Originally a natural rock outcropping, the dam was first improved by Henry Troell in the late 1800's when he added rock to the dam to raise the water level to power a cotton gin. The City of Seguin bought Troell's property in 1907 to further develop the river's hydroelectricity, and subsequent improvements have led to the establishment of a hydroelectric plant on the dam's south side.

The city of Seguin was named after Juan Nepomuceno Seguin was born on October 27, 1806, in San Antonio de Bexar, Province of Texas, Viceroyalty of New Spain, to Juan José María Erasmo Seguin and Maria Josefa Becerra. As the son of a postmaster, he assisted his mother in the business, while his father was off writing the Mexican Constitution of 1824. In 1825, he married María Gertrudis Flores de Abrego. They had ten children.
Juan Seguin was one of the defenders of the Battle of the Alamo. He was sent out as a runner to inform Houston how things were going. He returned with more troupes, but it was too late. The Alamo had fallen
