On a nighttime walk in downtown Palo Alto this week, I encountered this very scary artifact. It reads 50 cents to make a call, but I decided to hang onto my money.
My old hiking headlamp that i've had for over twenty years, but does'nt work anymore. I can't seem to get rid of it, having taken me on so many journey's.
I took out the outdated ILFORD XP2 400 Super from my 1956 AGFA ISOLETTE III and re-loaded it into my 'Gift' MAMIYA C330 F from a 92 year old Camera Club Member . I had 4 frames left. I used it in Weald Country Park near BRENTWOOD Town , metering by a WESTON MASTER V Incident Light Method . The negs were 'THIN' but scanned well. My Legs were sore after walking about 3 miles from home and around Park carrying heavy MAMIYA TLR's !!

Probably the most outdated of all moving vehicles, these hood-less trucks were as universally used as they were noisy. The machines had to be started manually with a winch and while in other countries the front part was only used to plow fields, in Myanmar they had evolved to real vehicles, carrying everything from construction material over human passengers to skyscraper high loads of goods. These hood-less trucks really seemed to be some interesting creatures as they didn’t look like anything that a regular automotive company would produce and sell. And in fact these trucks are put together out of all sorts of available spare parts. But whatever these vehicles were, they were widely used all over Myanmar and they looked extremely fascinating, especially when fully loaded and rattling around town. Hitching a ride on the back of one of these hood-less beauties can be really good fun. Expect a true cultural experience.
Petrol is rationed in Myanmar to four gallons per week for vehicle owners. If you need more than this you'll have to buy at the black-market usually twice as expensive. When Myanmar vehicle owners make an upcountry road trip they have to buy fuel on the black-market or carry numerous jerry cans of petrol. Another cost when travelling by car is the customary toll collected upon entering many towns and villages throughout Myanmar. Photo of a popular hood-less truck taken near the market in Mandalay.

just a throwaway snapshot on an overcast, stuck-at-my-desk day, but I'm thoroughly blown away by how good this tiny panasonic 100/2.8 macro is. it's a genuine engineering marvel and a big reason I migrated to L-mount for my workhorse full-frame system.
this lens essentially replaced the beautiful but cumbersome and highly unreliable fujinon GF120/4 macro in my kit—that thing's a beast, but feels as fragile and ungainly as an old rolls royce. while the S5IIX clearly can't hold a candle to the GFX's image quality in absolute terms, I can essentially use this thing even with the outdated 24MP FF S5II sensor and get damn good results in almost any situation where I would've previously used the 120, but with much faster autofocus AND beautifully responsive manual focus (none of the jumpy, loud spurts of the GF120). I've only had it a few weeks, and have shot a wildfires, editorial portraits, and close-up medical treatments with it.
it's easily one of the best lenses I've ever used. and it's so tiny and light!

ODC - OUTDATED, OBSOLETE
Outdated yes but nor obsolete. You can still purchase the 120 roll film that it uses. This is my first camera, given to me by my paternal grandfather. Made by Agfa but not branded as such, I probably got it about 1953.

"The strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack"
After months of hard work, I finally completed my custom minifigures from the video game Destiny. These figures are based off of my personal Year 1 characters (Titan, Hunter, Warlock respectively), hence the outdated gear. Before I say anything else, I know a lot of you think Destiny was a shit game and I understand your reasoning, but I enjoyed playing the game. I made a lot of new friends, like my buddy Shane/DaLastPrime, by playing this game and made a lot of good memories, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't complain about how much of a let down Destiny was to you or how awful you think the game is. But hey, I'm not stopping you, however I just want the main focus to be these custom minifigures.
I'm not going to go into a ton of detail on this photo because I am planning on uploading 3 more individual shots of each figure, so I'll go into further detail on those pictures where you can see all of the details I'd talk about.
First off, I need to thank Sander. Back in July I commissioned him to make me a few items for these figures, knowing I'd be making them for the release of The Taken King. I commissioned him to make Achlyophage Symbiote, Helm of Saint-14, Obsidian Mind, Chest of the Exile, and the Kellhunter's Hood. I got the items back in September but I didn't have enough time to make all 3 characters by TTK, so I decided to just hold off and take my time. Sander did a spectacular job with the sculpts, and I really cannot thank him enough. Go check him out if you aren't familiar with his work, he's one of the best sculptors I know and is an awesome dude. Thanks again man!
Just as a quick overview of each figure, the order goes (L->R):
-Titan: Defender Titan sporting a Thunderdevil-ish shader. All parts of the Titan, besides the helmet, were sculpted by me. He has a Dead Orbit Titan Mark on his right side which isn't visible from this angle, so I'll be sure to show you that in the individual photos. The Titan is armed with a painted Red Death pulse rifle from Brickinator99's shape ways store.
-Hunter: Gunslinger Hunter with the Queen's Web shader. The helmet, cloak, and torso were sculpted by Sander, the rest by me. One of the trickiest parts was the hood, which I ended up modifying a CapeMadness hood so it could fit around the helmet. I also wanted to shoutout Josiah (brickzalive) for giving me some tips on dry sculpting, mainly with the knife on the side of the Hunter's leg. The weapon is a custom made Fatebringer hand cannon made out of BrickArm's HC1, ABR, and various other parts. He also has a gold plated BrickArms MK.44 Hand Cannon (thanks Sean!) but it's not pictured, but will be included in the single photo.
-Ghost: Saw Jaymes's (TheLostMinifig) design for a Ghost a little while back, so I copped his design, so credit to him!
-Warlock: Voidwalker Warlock sporting the Cryptographic shader. The helmet was sculpted by Sander, the rest was sculpted/crafted by me. The Warlock had some pretty tricky elements to him, mainly being the collar and the robes. The robe/torso extension was made out of two combined cloth skirt pieces, then cut up and painted. I chose cloth because I wanted the legs to still be able to move around. The collar is a significant part of the Crota raid Warlock chest, so I knew I had to add it. It was sculpted out of thin layer of Procreate. The Warlock is armed with Brickinator99's Vex Mythoclast, which I painted. Hopefully I'll be modifying it a little more soon.
Please let me know what you all think! I'd really like to get some feedback considering it took me months to make all these figures!
Thanks guys!

Walkman, MCs & old microphone...
Does anyone remember the time when you sat in front of the radio with a microphone and a tape recorder and recorded music programmes and everything had to be quiet around it?
I didn't have the cassette recorder, but I still have everything else.

Looking at the old plough this picture is a part of I mused about the fleeting nature of time. Once this piece of metal was part of a state-of-the-art machine, developed by smart engineers, used to enhance the fertility and workability of the fields.
Now not only the machine but - some say - even the technique is outdated.
I have been building Spyrius for quite some time, every couple years I build an AX spaceship - intergalactic cruiser which is superior to all previous in some ways. This picture shows their evolution until 2019.

On, what can only be described as a whim, I also took my now, rather outdated digital Nikon D80 out for a trip.
Situated on the northern bank of the River Thames, is Tilbury Fort. It was originally set up by that scallywag, King Henry VIII, as a defence point for London. It has been through many iterations over the centuries. Some of the more modern stuff from the '50's has been removed. All in all, it is pleasant enough and here we are in the courtyard. The site is maintained by English Heritage.
There is a little exhibition in those buildings, explaining about all the munitions that were stored here and how the officers at the garrison preferred to live on the other side of the Thames, in Gravesend, Kent, rather than in Tilbury. A sentiment that may well still hold true today.
Anyways, the D80 is quite old now and was not very keen to behave. I really like the results from the 10.2 megapixel CCD sensor, however I wasn't so keen on the flash popping up unexpectedly, along with a few error messages, to keep me on my toes!

Have you ever thought what an unusual or maybe outdated name this is? Well that wouldn't be surprising as the name for this butterfly first appeared in print in English in 1699, and has barely changed since. James Petiver called it the Lesser or common Tortoise-shell Butterfly, to distinguish it from the Greater (ie Large) Tortoise-shell. But the name dates back to a time before plastics had been invented, when everyday products such as combs and hair clips really did used to be made from carved and polished shells of hapless tortoises. The name of Tortoiseshell cats have the same origin, because of their marbled pattern of blacks, browns and orange, like polished tortoise shell. I think the underside of the butterfly looks more like the tortoise product but maybe Petiver thought the upperwing did?
Its scientific name Aglais urticae is perhaps more appropriate. Aglais (coined in 1816 by a chap called Dalman. It was Nymphalis before that and there is a move to shift it back there) simply means beautiful, and I cannot argue with that. Urticae was given by Linnaeus in 1758, who correctly identified Nettle (Urtica dioica) as its larval foodplant. I photographed this one, the first of this season's new emergence looking pristine and freshly-minted. It was resting on a path high (1200 feet asl) in the West Yorkshire Pennines. Interestingly, there were still individuals on the wing that had emerged the previous summer and hibernated, though they were looking tatty and transparent.
Unfortunately, this once common butterfly is common no-more. The latest Butterfly Conservation magazine says that 2018 was the worst year in the history of the Big Butterfly Count with sightings falling by 38% compared to 2017. Just 23,000 Small Tortoiseshell were counted by participants across the UK during the three-week recording period which coincided with the joint hottest summer on record.
The population of the once common and widespread Small Tortoiseshell has collapsed by 75% since the 1970s and there are now growing concerns among scientists for the butterfly’s long-term future. Reasons for the ongoing decline are being investigated with climate change, pollution and parasites all possible culprits.
