My Dad's back then state of the art 'music box'. We had an original jukebox in the basement, but it got destroyed by a fire.
This oak monster though is still intact - and functioning I guess.
Any lovers?
I saw this outdated cool billboard in a street underpass. And then this woman also came by.... one of my favorite street photographic moments of last year!

Macro Monday: #BackInTheDay
7DWF, Monday: Anything Goes Theme
Width: 5 cm / 1,9 inches
Went to the German Museum of Technology to find something that has been outdated by technological evolution (other than my old calculator, some old tubes from my headphone amplifier or old quills I have at home). This is the pick-up head of an "Odeon Favorit" gramophone built in the late 1930s, designed exclusively for playing shellac records. In another section of the museum I found a box of (even older, ca. 1910) shellac needles which had to be changed after each play, because worn steel needles would otherwise damage the grooves of a shellac record. Those needles came in the varieties of "soft", "medium", "loud", "very loud" and "extra loud". Should you ever visit Berlin one day and the weather then happens to be as ghastly as it was yesterday, I can highly recommend a visit to this museum ;-) .
A Happy Easter Macro Monday, dear Flickr friends ;-)
Das gruselige Wetter gestern war ein willkommener Anlass, mal wieder das Deutsche Technikmuseum in Kreuzberg zu besuchen. Unter anderem wurde ich dort auch im Kleinen für das heutige MM-Thema "Back in the Day" fündig.

fujicolor proplus ii - outdated 100 april 2011
As you can see, our broadcasting studio was really outdated by the point when this photo was taken.
We had rotary pots on the broadcasting board, I would spin CDs for music and even a throwback to the 1950s by using tape carts for all my jingles, promotions and even commercials for products which long existed.
I was the last DJ at the station to know how to record carts and even where to get them. Carts had been bypassed by computer automation at almost every commercial station in America since 2000, and yet, there I was with my carts!
About 3 years ago, WPKN decided to move out of the old studios and into brand news ones right in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut.
When I recently visited, I couldn't believe my eyes. The cart machines were nowhere to be found and there were just a few scattered CDs laying around in a rack inside the studio. Back in my day, we had a catalog of at least 25,000 CDs. I wonder what the station did with all of them?
Another thing that caught my attention is that the broadcasting console had been replaced with a modern kind which uses sliders instead of the round dials as shown in the photo above.
Talk about a future shock for me! Throughout my lengthy radio career which goes back to 1977 on other stations as well as WPKN, we always had the traditional round radio dials called "pots" for potentiometers.
I was both fascinated and a little saddened at how far broadcast technology had come since I left the industry in 2009. Oh well, time moves on.

Sony Ericsson W850i
The Sony Ericsson W850i is the first 3G sliding form factor mobile phone by Sony Ericsson, introduced in Q2 2006. It is a member of their Walkman line. The phone made its first public appearance in the 2006 movie The Da Vinci Code, months before its release. It is similar mechanically to the Sony Ericsson K800i but differs in its form factor, memory card support of the Memory Stick PRO Duo instead of Memory Stick Micro, and the camera (2.0 megapixels instead of 3.2 for the K800i, and with some additional features removed)
The phone is available in Precious Black or Golden White and is configured for operator over the air (OTA) music download services and accepts popular music file formats including e-AAC+, and includes a 1 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo. The Golden White version has a gold Walkman logo on the back which the black version does not include.
The Walkman player contains Gracenote Mobile TrackID, which enables a user to record a few seconds of a song, either via the microphone or the in-built FM radio, and then with one click send that clip to the Gracenote worldwide music database which will identify the track and relay the information back to the phone.
The model shares all the features the W880i has except the form factor and the inclusion of an FM radio and Photolight on this model.[1]
There is a non-3G version of the W850i called W830c.
Sony D-NE710 ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman Portable Disc Player
Just can't throw it away. Still works. Found a CD in it I hadn't played in 10 years. Already had the songs loaded in my mini iPod. Someone has one of these on eBay, brand new, still in an unopened package. Asking price $999.99 😄
Crazy Tuesday - Outdated - 04 May 2021.
My grandmother would have used a camera similar to this over a hundred years ago to capture photo like this, a little outdated now:
RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City. The sinking of Titanic caused the deaths of 1,514 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. She was the largest ship afloat at the time of her maiden voyage. One of three Olympic class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line, she was built between 1909–11 by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. She carried 2,224 people.
Her passengers included some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as over a thousand emigrants from Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia and elsewhere seeking a new life in North America. The ship was designed to be the last word in comfort and luxury, with an on-board gymnasium, swimming pool, libraries, high-class restaurants and opulent cabins. She also had a powerful wireless telegraph provided for the convenience of passengers as well as for operational use. Though she had advanced safety features such as watertight compartments and remotely activated watertight doors, she lacked enough lifeboats to accommodate all of those aboard. Due to outdated maritime safety regulations, she carried only enough lifeboats for 1,178 people – a third of her total passenger and crew capacity.
After leaving Southampton on 10 April 1912, Titanic called at Cherbourg in France and Queenstown (now Cobh) in Ireland before heading westwards towards New York. On 14 April 1912, four days into the crossing and about 375 miles south of Newfoundland, she hit an iceberg at 11:40 pm (ship's time; UTC-3). The glancing collision caused Titanic's hull plates to buckle inwards in a number of locations on her starboard side and opened five of her sixteen watertight compartments to the sea. Over the next two and a half hours, the ship gradually filled with water and sank. Passengers and some crew members were evacuated in lifeboats, many of which were launched only partly filled. A disproportionate number of men – over 90% of those in Second Class – were left aboard due to a "women and children first" protocol followed by the officers loading the lifeboats. Just before 2:20 am Titanic broke up and sank bow-first with over a thousand people still on board. Those in the water died within minutes from hypothermia caused by immersion in the freezing ocean. The 710 survivors were taken aboard from the lifeboats by the RMS Carpathia a few hours later.
The disaster was greeted with worldwide shock and outrage at the huge loss of life and the regulatory and operational failures that had led to it. Public inquiries in Britain and the United States led to major improvements in maritime safety. One of their most important legacies was the establishment in 1914 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), which still governs maritime safety today. Many of the survivors lost all of their money and possessions and were left destitute; many families, particularly those of crew members from Southampton, lost their primary bread-winners. They were helped by an outpouring of public sympathy and charitable donations. Some of the male survivors, notably the White Star Line's chairman, J. Bruce Ismay, were accused of cowardice for leaving the ship while people were still on board, and they faced social ostracism.
The wreck of the Titanic remains on the seabed, gradually disintegrating at a depth of 12,415 feet (3,784 m). Since its rediscovery in 1985, thousands of artefacts have been recovered from the sea bed and put on display at museums around the world. Titanic has become one of the most famous ships in history, her memory kept alive by numerous books, films, exhibits and memorials.
Belfast has opened the Iconic Titanic Signature Building which will house Titanic Belfast ® it is iconic in design and houses a world class visitor attraction. It is located at Titanic Quarter (East Belfast). The exhibition is based on the theme of the Titanic and the wider subject of Belfast’s shipbuilding and maritime heritage. Of such scale, the building is likely to become Northern Ireland’s largest and most successful built attraction.
A symbolic statue made by world-renowned Irish sculptor Rowan Gillespie has been unveiled at Titanic Belfast.
‘Titanica’, a female figure designed to represent hope and positivity.
Gillespie has had work commissioned across the world, from Moscow to LA, but Titanica is his first work in Northern Ireland.
Titanica has been placed on the plaza in front of the iconic Titanic Belfast building, the world’s largest Titanic visitor attraction which will formally open on Saturday.
The bronze sculpture with a high-bolted brass base is a life-size female figure, similar to female figureheads which historically rested on the bows of ships as a symbol of good fortune.
Gillespie said: “I visited Titanic Quarter early last year and was so inspired by the stunning architecture and the energy of the development and the construction working there that I was moved to make something special for the area.
“I spent the next 12 months working on the sculpture and it is a real honour to have my work displayed in front of Titanic Belfast, one of the most impressive architectural designs in Europe. I hope Titanica provides as much joy for those who see her as I had in making her.”
I liked this outdated building next to a train station. It was bland 1940's or 1950's style, and wasn't all that interesting. This is an exercise in trying to add some character to something that should have had it to begin with. I did what I could digitally.
Aurizon 4000 class diesel locomotives 4013 and 4011 displaying long outdated Queensland Railways livery and logos head an empty phosphate train east of Moselle on the Mt. Isa line in North Queensland. I will have more to say about these liveries in the next few photos - (Aurizon hasn't even updated the old QR logos with temporary Aurizon ones despite being in their ownership for many years) which is cheapskate and reprehensible in my view. Phosphate is mined at Phosphate Hill, a branch off the line to Mt. Isa to its south - Sulphuric Acid is also hauled direct to Mt. Isa in block trains of tank wagons for use in the mining/smelting process.
Two outdated B-wing bombers and a powerful shield generator strapped together into a slumbering fighter, able to protect allied capital ships against long range artillery.
My entry for the preliminary round of Iron Forge. The seed part, a standard minifigure leg, was used a total of 23 times throughout the build.

This is a mercury thermometer, I think almost a hundred years old. Mercury thermometers are not for sale anymore because of the toxic nucleus of it. But what can you do, it has been on the wall of my grandparents, parents and now me. I think it is less a risk with me that in a dumpster.

Crazy Tuesday theme for this week is "Outdated"
The Kodak Vigilant Junior Six-20 was a folding camera made in the USA and Canada by Kodak from 1940 to 1948.
Both outdated AND from vastly different time periods. Just had to phone snap this great scene when stopping at a yard sale.
My first MacPlus from 1986. Imagine my surprise when I just unboxed it in my basement and it booted right up, running System 6 along with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other programs! 35 years and still running. As the group challenge description states, it is "something I don't use anymore but don't want to sell or discard" because it's such a wonderful nostalgic item from my past!
Crazy Tuesday. OUTDATED. Kodak DCS200 Digital SLR of 1992. Sadly no longer working although the camera part - A Nikon N8008S does work but the pictures no longer record to the the base-station. The digital base-staztion cost an eye watering $9,995 when new and weighs in at 1.7Kg so not something to carry round all day. I understand that only 3240 were ever made but this is one of the first steps towards the world of digital photography of today.
An Olympia Splendid 99 portable typewriter. One of two portable and unused typewriters puttering about our house. Both are still in perfect working order.
My old Minolta X700 film camera which I purchased second hand in the 1980s. It sits in the closet for now. It's full metal case makes it heavy! Maybe I should try it out again.
We were on the train leaving Vanarasi. It had been 15 hours long including delay time. The tourist cabin seemed to be much more comfortable than the others. But still in the balmy morning, passengers were looking indifferently out of the window, waiting for the last station.

The Stadtbad of Leipzig had a separate swimming pool for women (shown here). In addition, there were medico-therapeutic offers, such as tubs and sweat baths, and two separate saunas.

This very chic but somewhat outdated development of the Flavia could be considered the last of the pre-Fiat Lancias and was sold only from 1971 to 1974, when the famous Turin company was already in the hands of its huge neighbour. This one has electronic injection, which was a first for an Italian production car. Note the curtains behind the rear window.
I mean... in 2019... Borat? Has anyone important said anything about contemporary irrelevance recently? I wonder what Brenda from Bristol will think about seven more by-elections. There will be seven by-elections soon, right?

This outdated design was first introduced as late as 1936. Despite its ancient design and slow speed it was built in huge numbers (2,392) and operated right through WW11. Their operational highlight was their key contribution to the sinking of the German battleship the Bismark.
This image like many more of my recent aircraft uploads was taken at the Southport Airshow.
My neighbour's driveway has been lined for the past week with these
splashes of colour, much needed on our street. But spring jumps quickly
to attention around here, at first holding back and holding back, and
then suddenly within a week or two, it seems everything has bloomed.

Crazy Tuesday - Outdated
(No internet required, just pure imagination)
Early 1970s Fisher Price camper - my kids loved playing with this as have their children when they came to Nannie and Grandads. They loved the removable dinghy located on the top of the van but to be honest, not as much as the toilet located inside the van, with a lift up lid!!
What is great now is that we actually do this for real with them and can't wait for the restrictions to lift for our next campervan adventure. I sometimes wonder if this toy help 'set the seed' for their love of the great outdoors.
