This location opened on November 9th, 1993; it was originally a Sizzler, which opened in May 1989 and closed in 1990. It became Shangri-La Restaurant & Tavern in December 1991, which closed in April 1993. The restaurant was repainted in summer 2010, was renovated in 2015, and was renovated again in December 2022.

These photos were taken in the area of Longreach. The Outback is the vast, remote, arid area of Australia, although the term colloquially can refer to any lands outside the main urban areas. It is, in fact, a vast area that has a wide variety of wildlife in it.
Before leaving Kalgoorlie, we had filled up 2 of the 3 jerry cans we had with us, as the next fuel stop wouldn’t be until we reached Balladonia, a distance of 530 km.
Talc Alf is a funny old guy who lives in the desert making sculptures out of chalk. He campaigns for the Australian flag to be changed to the one above, with the aboriginal sun symbol replacing the evil Union Jack.
