I took this nearly a month ago, by golly.
I should post things quicker to the date I took them, otherwise I forget the details of the funny stories surrounding the event. (That's right, I just said it's an EVENT when I take photos)
Well....I suppose it's kind of like Venus' transit of the Sun, it happens twice in quick succession then NEVER AGAIN while you're alive.
Okay I exaggerate a lil... :)
I guess the main detail would be that I'm sitting in an EFFING PILE OF ASH, and it's all in my hair and crap.
I was throwing that shit around like a monkey at the zoo. ...Yeah, I had black bogeys for a week and a serious case of the sneezies after this. SERIOUS!
Other details would be that I smelled bad and almost got a nail in my foot from kicking the ash without looking. Luckily I got lucky with luck and lucked out on only stubbing my toe on it instead of allowing it to slide its tetanusy rustiness into my unvaccinated foot.
What else... hmm, my camera was on a fully extended tripod on top of a child-size picnic table, and when I was expanding the frame, I had no clue if I had taken enough photos or if I was even pointing the camera at the ANYTHING at all.
Luckily I lucked out with luck again on that one. :)

There's a BEFORE AND AFTER on my Facebook page.
I also have a place for questions on Formspring.
I like to ask you questions that make you think about stuff and I like to answer questions that NOBODY ASKS ME QUESTIONS so that's not really an issue.
In the backyard I inspected the cork screw tree...given to me by my father...and the leaves are ready to break out!!!
If we can just get through that last roadblock of jumbled boulders, we'll be out of this place and back on a normal pathway again.
View large to see how ridiculously flat the trail becomes after this barricaded entry- or- exit way!
I caught this cardinal, a bit off gaurd, but when he heard the click, he fled away ....
We sure hope this mid week, and the frigid cold temps, find you, well safe, and warm ...
Kind of funny that this quick iPhone snap of my car in the snow made Explore vs other recent posts...
A shot posted thanks to Ruth , I took this shot twelve odd years ago and Ruth took a shot last week for SSC which reminded me of this old shot . Ruth's shot was taken up on the Orkneys from a WW2 look-put post .
On the other hand this was taken at the other end of the UK at the Battery at St. Anthony's Head on the Roseland Peninsula looking across Carrick Roads to Falmouth in Kernow ( Cornwall ) .
Concrete buildings on the tip of the Roseland Peninsular represent a local history of military fortifications, including a gun battery, ammunition stores and gunner's lookout.
The first artillery was built in 1796 in response to the French invasion and was a battery of 24-pounder cannons. In 1885 these were replaced by 64-pounder muzzle loaders. In 1904 a completely new coastal fort was built, with two huge 6 inch VII breech loading guns, each with 23ft long barrels.
The gun pedestals were mounted in 7ft deep pits, and below them was the magazine, entered by a central door. The magazine layout was designed to reduce the risk of accidental explosion – shells and cartridges were stored apart from each other, and lifted up to the gun pits using separate hand-cranked hoists, only coming together when they were loaded into the guns.
The battery remained fully operational, and the magazine filled with ammunition, until 1956 when the guns were dismounted, cut up and carted away for scrap. When we bought the headland in 1959 the gun pits were filled with rubble. The eastern pit has now been excavated to expose the original walkways, stores and ammunition hoists.
Info from National Trust webpage who now care for the Battery .
In the first comment comment box there is a view of the observation point from the outside and a view of St. Anthony Head lighthouse which is below the Battery further down the cliff !
Note rusted out starboard gunwale. They are still working her. Dangerous work with low profit margin. Buy US shrimp!
This Vertorama was captured in the Robertson area of the Western Cape.
The ripples in the water are from a youngster fishing, but the funny thing is there was a 'No Fishing' sign right behind me.
On the way back from Asia last week, I happen to spot this out my window about midway through the 13 hour flight. Getting a decent hand held shot in a moving airplane was tough!
Sandpiper, one of the many birds seen on beaches in Florida. This picture was taken in Ormond Beach.

A young male lion during a night safari at the Masai Mara. He and his brothers were laying down in the grass. As he saw our jeep he was immediately awake and observed us. Such an intimate experience.
parts of the Omaha skyline, spread-out and peaking above the hills by the river. Shot at 200mm on a very hazy, hot, and humid (H3) day from the 1,400-acre Fontenelle Forest nature preserve.
I recently returned from a week in my home town, Omaha (for Fathers Day, the College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium, music & good friends, etc).
Didn't get a sassy shipping notice nor did I get a sassy ring from the postman. Just opened the door and there was that all-too-familiar brown box from IT.
She's perfect and glamorous and most importantly sassy. Yay!!!!!
