"White geese" can refer to the Snow Goose and Ross's Goose, which are wild species with primarily white plumage, or domestic breeds like the Roman Goose and Embden Goose, known for their all-white appearance. Another possibility is the White-fronted Goose, which has a distinct white patch on its forehead but otherwise has a different plumage

Breezing by at 55mph, engineer Ellis Lister effortlessly brings an empty West Labadie coal bucket through the sleepy village of Holden. They took little to no time to get back up to speed after coming out of the hole in Centerview; In a last-minute decision, they had to cool their jets due to Amtrak's westbound 319 approaching two of its station stops in Sedalia and Warrensburg. Although I'm sure they could have easily made it to Lee's Summit with Mr. Lister at the throttle, the dispatcher thought otherwise. This caused the train to arrive at this location 15 minutes before sunset.

The Temple of Hera Lacinia, or Juno Lacinia, otherwise known as Temple D, is a Greek temple of Magna Graecia in the Valle dei Templi, a section of the ancient city of Agrigentum (ancient Greek Akragas, modern Agrigento) in Sicily.
It was built in the middle of the fifth century BC, about the year 450 BC, and in period and in style belongs to the Archaic Doric period. Signs of a fire which followed the Siege of Akragas of 406 BC have been detected, and long after that the temple was restored at the time of the Roman province of Sicily, with the original terracotta roof being replaced by one of marble, with a more steeply inclined slope on the eastern side. The temple was originally dedicated to the Greek god Hera, Roman Juno. If still in use by the 4th-and 5th century, it would have been closed during the persecution of pagans in the late Roman Empire.
The building is a peripterotic Doric temple, with six columns on the short sides (hexastyle) and thirteen on the long sides, according to a canon derived from the models of the Greek homeland and also used for its "twin", the Temple of Concordia, with which it shares general dimensions, as if some elements of the buildings had been standardised. The temple's floor plan is around 38.15 metres long by 16.90 metres wide.
The front columns differ slightly in width, tapering at the ends and swelling at their middles. The peristyle of thirty-four 6.44 metre-high columns, each formed from four stacked drums, rests on a crepidoma of four steps. The whole edifice is on a raised spur, which is in large part artificial. In front of the eastern face are notable remains of the ancient altar.
The interior is composed of a cella, with no internal colonnade, of the double antis type, with its pronaos at the front mirrored by the opisthodomos at the back – both framed by two ranks of columns (distyle). Two stairs for the inspection of the roof, or perhaps for religious purposes, were built into the wall separating the naos from the pronaos.
The northern colonnade with the architrave and part of the frieze is completely preserved, while the colonnades on the other three sides are only partly surviving, with four columns missing and nine severely damaged, and they almost entirely lack their architraves. Some small elements of the naos remain, mostly the foundations of its exterior walls. The building has been being restored using anastylosis since the eighteenth century.

Klaudia Vigh on the canvas while British Board of Boxing Control referee Martin gives the final countdown. Behind Klaudia, you can see the ringside doctor looking on in case he is needed. The guy walking off was one of the female boxers' cornermen. He knows it's over.
This fight between Kelly Morgan and Klaudia Vigh was held in Bath. It was on a bill of men's boxing (as women boxers don't get enough bums on seats for ticket sales), in the middle of the otherwise all male undercard.
Anyway, as soon as the mainly male audience saw it was women up next, about half got up from their seats to get a pint before the next men's fight. They had barely left the room before the fight was over before the first round had even finished, Kelly laying into Klaudia with an animal aggression that's rare to see in women's boxing.
The guys who'd left to get a pint were shocked it was over so quick and they missed part of the next fight because of their decision to leave. The reasons for going was a) women's boxing is s**t - (true, it mainly is in my experience as the money/decent opposition isn't there) - and b) the main reason was they didn't want to see the fairer sex act like men/get hurt even though they are "probably flipping dykes" (sic).
By the way, the ref Martin was one of the nicest refs on the circuit. He used to jokingly ask me to photoshop him to look good and get him at the best angles. He was not a sexist prick like many of them including the BBoC ref who very publicly told me to quit shooting mid-fight ONLY because I was a woman - this caused me to quit shooting boxing as it had happened once too often. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this IS the 21st century.

These birds are actually part of the Cardinal family. We are lucky to see them at our feeder in the backyard. This one I spotted on one of the trails I walked. The males are quite colorful while the females are primarily brown. I am trying to get a good shot of the female without having the feeder included. She really hides in the trees otherwise and the trees are filling in with leaves now.
This is my nephew, Ben, clearing the frozen river for skating on New Years Day 2014.
I have posted the photo previously (see Comment section), but I have since removed one other distracting person from the photo and otherwise reprocessed the image a bit, I think it makes it more effective. I like it anyway.
I wish it were a bit tighter on Ben, but I wanted to keep the overhead wooden footbridge in the frame ... and as a frame too, I guess.
The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.

Pacific City to Newport. 50 miles with one grueling painful climb due to a missed turn. But a wonderful sunny day otherwise.
On the beach in Costa Maya for those who don't parlez vous Spanish! One of the several items on my bucket list is catching a bolt while on the beach. It may just happen someday soon.
Digging into the archives while I wait for the storms to come. Looking South I see some possibilities headed this way, the lightning tracker app says otherwise. We'll see who's smarter soon enough!

Otherwise known as grandmother's bonnet :) These photos are from last Spring (2020) because the photos I took this year were not as good... and, I want to enter one of the photos into the contest in the Fabulous Flowers group. They are always having contests on one flower or another :) just something to do :)
Maybe contests are fun and they do give a way to search for your best :)

This photo is dedicated to everyone who finds healthy eating a challenge. My personal nemesis is the British sweet biscuit and Bourbon Creams can easily lead me off the path. Each one is another brick in the wall when it comes to poor health!
These were laid out flat on a table after many failed attempts to make a free standing wall. Post processing to brighten a shadow cast by my camera, otherwise nothing but the narrowest of crops.
I should also add that I took about a hundred shots of actual bricks and brick walls before thinking of this.

Thought I would try a more iconic pose from Granada. I hope I have added enough spark to give it a fresh taste. Otherwise, as always, I have added in a narrative so you can wander through history from a different Point Of View.
On the shoulders of southern Spain is a Fortress that once ruled with supreme confidence. The kings believed that nothing would change as long as they were alive. And then one of them died and everything changed.
Now the fortress and palace are a walking garden for people with enough footprints to get there.
The proverbial flies on the walls have also passed on and so there really are only rumors of stories left to tell of this great kingdom and the daily lives of people who lived and prospered there.
I only know these stories from a direct descendant of a gnat who sat on the wings of a fly perched on the wall where a king and queen shared court with legends of old.
Some other direct descendants are still living so I cannot reveal everything the gnat told me but I can tell you this ... It was all amazing!
For instance, one Friday the eldest son walked past the jaguar fountain in the courtyard and asked his mother "Will I be a good King?"
The mother thought for awhile and spoke wisely "It really is up to the gnat on the fly's wings on the wall to know for sure...but I believe if it is written in the stars it will be so! " She smiled sweetly but he did not feel so self assured.
Years later, he did become King and breathed a sigh of relief.
But as many kings, he finally had to let go when the winds started blowing from the Northwest and new owners bought the property and asked him to leave.
It is rumored that he sat at this perch for many days looking back at his home and meditating on the amazing journey of his life and his temporal loss. Eventually he packed up his caravan and relocated to Morocco where he lived a prosperous and fruitful life but he was always the most proud of the beauty his family created with this grand monument.
When I came here, a few years later, I did not feel like a King nor a gnat on the wings of a fly on the wall. But I did taste history in the meal I ate on this same terrace and I can still smell the sweet scent of wisteria rising up in the heat and hear the breezes rustle and crackling leaves in the trees like a gnat dancing on the wings of a fly playing flamenco on the walls of the golden palace listening to conversations and passing it along to the next generation.
No matter what anyone says, History tastes better when it's warm and the view is hot!

Deprived of their natural diet of fire ants and such, the blue poison dart frog is harmless in captivity...otherwise, no touchy - no die!
The Lotus Mahal is otherwise called the Kamal Mahal or Chitragani Mahal. It’s remarkable and unmistakable design is the main highlight of the palace. It is one of only a handful few astonishing building in Hampi that had not been damaged or destroyed amid the attack on the city. As the name given to the palace is because of the shape it resembles. The balcony and the passages covered with a dome that looks like an opened lotus bud. The central dome is also carved as a lotus bud. The curves of the palace are given an Islamic touch while the multi-layered roof design is moreover related to Indo style of buildings. The style and designs is an inquisitive blend of Islamic and Indian way of architecture. The palace is a two-storied building, well-structured symmetrically. It is surrounded by a rectangular wall and four towers. These towers are also in pyramidal shape giving a lotus-like structure visual. Around 24 pillars are present to support the arched windows and balcony of the palace. The walls and pillars are carved beautifully with patterns like sea creatures and birds. The surrounding area of the palace is covered with many shady trees providing a cool ambiance to the palace.
I was concentrating on eagles on this day so this was a pleasant bonus. Daddy was nearby, otherwise I would have not known it was an oriole.
Final approach.
At 6.20 pm the sky is blanketed by heavy smoke from the nearby out of control bush fires.
For most the afternoon the smoke blocked the suns rays and transformed was otherwise was a bright sunny day almost night.
Despite the density of the smoke this aircraft flew over the Hastings River and still managed to land at the Port Macquarie airport.

47593 makes its way up and down between Appleby and Skipton today, across viaducts and along valleys.
The start of a long day at the south end of the S&C with Andy Hoare and despite the good weather forecast the skies suggested otherwise. That said as with this shot and many other the sun appeared at the right times and the further north we went, the better the weather was. This was the first of 8 passes of this train we caught being the ECS run from Appleby to Skipton.
If you believe the lineside rumour this week will be the last of the 47593 / 37521 pairing and 2 green 47s will be running next week.
