結局のところ、デジタル画像がどれほど精緻化し、精細になったところで、現実の被写体には到底かなわない。デジタル写真は、時間をかけた手仕事で一品物の絵画とは、雲泥の差がある。
ならば、デジタルに載せる画像表現は、むしろ画面は荒く、大体の輪郭が判別できればいいのである。鑑賞者は、その荒い画面の形態から、本物を、実物を、想像すればいいのである。
私の画像作品は、そのぎりぎりでとどまることを狙っている。必要にして十分なのだ。

I pulled up some dendelions and stuck them in a hiking shoe, then held them up to the sun. There was more thought than just this, of course.
Utata's Iron Photographer project 221 asked for:
1 - a thing (dandelion flowers, greens)
2 - in a shoe (hiking shoe that hurts my feet)
3 - b&w Orton effect (Picasa's Ortonish)
The Orton effect doesn't work well on the shoe but I hoped to balance this by giving the flowers a back-lit halo shooting towards the sun.
My circle of trust always evolves,
The light of some pulls me forward
while others fade in the background.
Around my clear eyes it revolves,
as life spins from black to white
to white and black in rhythms
understood by none but God
(or the chaos from which she sprung).

Integration signal to noise reduction (SNR) reinforces locally similar elements of the immobile subject, sharpening them, while weakening dissimilar background elements.

Contrast enhanced with a "Daidoish" preset (contrast 90+, clear view 50+, blacks -40 or less, color level adjustments and color filter, tone curve adjusted to crush blacks and blow highlights)
Stepping out of my comfort zone, at 1/3 sec shutter speed, makes the path resemble multicolored pavement.
Generated for Utata's weekend project "Seeing Red". If it isn't red enough it's the white balance or modification by Topaz Restyle, blending the native palette with a yellow-tinged cross-processed Kodak e-chrome image I admire.

I was practicing with the radicchio to get the appearance of veins on the egg (for Halloween) but it didn't quite work.

I went for a walk when it was Thursday somewhere in the world. Coincidentally, a couple of high school students returning from the store got their wheels wedged against the curb and couldn't move without dismounting.
Mary/Goldsardine's no longer curated effort Felt Life might have approved of this scene. The group was actively curated until about March, 2009. If you are curious what it was try looking here or earlier.

I started a roll of Ferrania P30 film seven months ago with Utata's Thursday Walk 592 in mind. This parking lot snap is straightened but otherwise just as scanned.
Utata's iron photographer 343 asks for photos with:
1) a self portrait
2) with a towel on your head (dish towel, tied with cord)
3) and holding a fruit or vegetable
Still haven't realized the image I want (an homage to Magritte's "not to be reproduced) so I belatedly tried a different approach - masking the celery for color, and the distracting light at my fingertips to remove it.

Theme: My partial view of the way to school. I will long remember looking out the windows, habitually checking the youngster is actually on his way, even when I no longer remember what I saw when looking.
A recent school festival offered several joys for young people: Boxes of cereal, occasionally spilled during hasty snacking (like Captain Crunch here) and crushed underfoot, and inflatable "bouncy" houses, which require removal of shoes before playing. This vignette was noticed while waiting in line.
A divine wind whispered through the trees
Leaves scattered and skin chilled
A soft cry echoes at the edge of hearing
Shadows rippled and a tear fell.

しかし、白黒は被写体の形状を、厳密に表現し、かつ、静謐な趣を出す。白黒画像は、色彩の魔術から対象を解き放し、本来の形の持つ美しさを明快に示す。
