L'Orient Express diretto a Venezia, transita a Baveno eccezionalmente sul Sempione anzichè sul Gottardo.
Finally the Orient Express made a trip towards Brussels and Amsterdam again. After the enormous delay on tuesday train ran pretty much on time for the return journey. Or at least after Brussels, cause masses of spectators in places like Essen, Antwerp and Mechelen delayed the Orient Express and other trains for quite some bit and the effects were felt on the belgian railway network the entire day. After a stop in Schaarbeek, just north of Brussels, the train for its loco for the journey towards France. To cross the border with France another loco than the one for The Netherlands was needed. So between Schaarbeek and Aulnoye it was the 1862’s turn to pull all 17 luxurious coaches. Between the city of Mons and the french border the 92 living travellers and 42 members of staff for a nice view of the surroundings, just like got a nice view of the train. If only the sun were shining.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, or VSOE, is a private luxury train service from London to Venice and other European cities.
The original company was founded by James Sherwood of Kentucky, USA, in 1982; five years earlier, in 1977, he had bought two of the original carriages at an auction when the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits withdrew from the Orient Express service, passing the service on to the national railways of France, Germany, and Austria. Over the next few years, Sherwood spent a total of US$16 million purchasing 35 sleeper, restaurant and Pullman carriages. On 25 May 1982, the first London–Venice run was made.
It is currently owned by Belmond Ltd. Belmond operates 45 luxury hotels, restaurants, tourist trains and river cruises in 24 countries. (wiki)
Although expensive its worth while doing once in a life time. Did I see Peter Ustinov behind one of the railway carriages windows that day?
Years later the model train manufaturer Roco made a brilliant model of SNCF 9287 on scale H0, Great original design !

Landscape seen from the train windows that changes in the Andes constantly. A beautiful train ride from Cusco to Aguas Calientes.
* Vistadome is the train I used:
It is a train with spacious wagons, with panoramic windows on the roof and sides that will allow you to take pictures of the entire route through the valley.
How much does the train to Machu Picchu cost?
