As the oldest ( 10 1/2 Yrs.) Sammy feels that he has to keep order over the others, I tell him to just relax, but he is stubborn!! Although, every once in a while we do see his playful side..

NOPE. in macarthur park it's not "out of order"... it "DOESN'T WORK". but at least they're "SORRY!"

As we were driving back to the hotel after feeding the birds, I spotted this dead tree at the side of the road, with carvings of birds all up its trunk, like a totem pole. A plaque alongside explained it is called the Pecking Order Pole and was created by Andy Hancock of Australia in 1997. Cool!

Order of the May 2024 Induction ceremony on Friday, May 12, 2024 in Simmons Auditorium/Welcome Center lobby.

August 10, 1843 -- Twenty-four years after the birth of the American Order in Baltimore, Maryland, the first Odd Fellow lodge instituted in Canada was Prince of Wales Lodge No. 1 in Montreal, Quebec. It received its charter through the efforts of two American Odd Fellows living in Montreal. They petitioned the Grand Lodge of the United States for a lodge charter. That authority granted the charter after some very serious soul searching and deliberation.

Within fifteen months, there were three lodges in the Montreal area who petitioned and received a charter to operate as the Grand Lodge of Canada under the leadership of W.M.B. Hartley as Grand Master.

This was the beginning of a brief period of prosperity. The Order spread rapidly to become a fashionable and popular society in Canada. Montreal was the capital of Canada in 1843 and there were amongst the Odd Fellows, many prominent elected members of parliament. The lodges became private social clubs in the eyes of some of the members. These members could retreat from their daily hectic parliamentary lifestyle to enjoy some private male activities.

During the formative years, those members engaged in parliamentary activities were strong free thinking nationalists. Having learned of the change approved by the Grand Lodge of the United States, they felt that the Canadian operations should be more independent. Accordingly, they petitioned the Grand Lodge of the United States for sovereign status as a quasi-independent jurisdiction. Subsequently, the Grand Lodge of British North America received this authority with some limitations on their powers. This new Grand Body was the first of its kind and included both the Odd Fellow and Patriarch branches in Canada.

At the peak of its short-lived history, the Grand Lodge of British North America chartered four Grand Lodges and twenty-eight Odd Fellow Lodges under their respective jurisdictions. In addition, because this Grand Body served all of Canada, one Odd Fellow Lodge located in Nova Scotia was granted a charter. However, the burden of this organization may have been too heavy or the novelty of membership in the Order may have worn off on the senior officials of the Grand Lodge of British North America. They defaulted on their responsibilities to the subordinate members of the Order. All lodges in the city of Montreal formally disbanded in 1853. The debts of the Grand Lodge were paid by the subordinate lodges remaining. The leadership walked away from the charter, so that finally in 1854 the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of the United States made a visit to Quebec City. He was trying to ascertain whether any hope was evident to resuscitate the Order in Canada. Unfortunately, there was no positive evidence to revive the charter of the Grand Body in Canada. The Grand Secretary, reported to the annual session of the Grand Lodge of the United States these facts. He recommended that the seven orphaned Odd Fellow Lodges in Ontario and the one in Nova Scotia be brought under the umbrella of the Grand Lodge of the United States.

The short career of the first sovereign quasi-independent jurisdiction ended. In retrospect, the Order has survived in Canada and seven jurisdictions continue to operate under the Sovereign Grand Lodge to this day.

This photograph was taken as part of my Order and Disorder project. I like this image because the chocolates are in an order but they're disordered because they're all different.

Customer wanted a mixture of pink and blue, So i did white chocolate mud cake with buttercream on 6 and fondant on the other 6, with hand made royal icing decorations and embossing.

The curves around MP 181 restrict the traffic to slower speeds, so some crews dubbed it the Government Slow Order due to its proximity to a lock and dam on the Mississippi River nearby. Here's IC&E's MNAWA navigating the curves between LeClaire and Pleasant Valley, IA.

House of the Teutonic Order

The House of the Teutonic Order was as a Viennese commandry of the in 1198 in Acre founded Teutonic Order under Duke Leopold VI in the early years of the 13th Century built. The German Order was next to the Hospitallers and the Templars the third major order of knights of the Middle Ages. Duke Leopold gave him the large area between Stephansplatz, Churhausgasse, Singerstraße and blood alley (Blutgasse). Documentarily proven is the existence of the house from 1222. Here resided the Landkomtur (province commanders) of the Bailiwick of Austria, to which the commandries Vienna, Wiener Neustadt, Graz, Friesach and Groß-Sonntag (Krain) belonged. In the great fire of 1258 all the religious buildings except the church tower burned down. In the Middle Ages the complex of the German monastic house was limited to the area along the Singerstraße and Blutgasse. 1309 exchanged the Order part of the land that was needed for the extension of Stephen's cemetery against a neighboring area. The sprawling building had in its, the Stephansplatz adjacent part a large farm yard, which was surrounded by stables. Since 1526 the Head of the Order bore the title "Grand and German master (Hoch- und Deutschmeister)". The famous Viennese house regiment of the same name by the way in 1696 emerged from those Truppenkontigenten (contigent of troops) which the Order for the Turkish war had provided. After the first Turkish siege of Vienna, numerous residents of the suburbs whose houses had been burned were housed here. From 1667 the already dilapidated buildings were torn down with the exception of the church under the Landkomtur (province commander) Gottfried Freiherr von Lambert and provided by Carlo Canevale with three-storey new buildings. As plasterers Jacob Schlag and Simon Alio were mentioned. 1679/82 increased Canevale and Johann Bernhard Ceresola the complex.

I've seen the bath mat sitting on the floor tiles thousands of times but this morning, in a philosophical frame of mind, I saw it as symbolising the concept of ORDER versus DISORDER at both levels ... the individual / the self ... and the social / society.

Having captured the germ of the idea with the photo I immediately thought that the apparently disorderly bath mat had many positive attributes that act as a counterpoint to the apparently positive attributes of the perfectly ordered tiles. Then by analogy the idea came ... could this form of thinking be applied firstly to individual human thought at the psychological level and then on into pros and cons within society with a more sociological, ethnological and political level of examination?

Having done a bit more searching I can see that this author has probably done the work for me so I've bought the book:

"The Order-Disorder Paradox: Understanding the Hidden Side of Change in Self and Society" (Nathan Schwartz-Salant. 2017).
