A young Araucaria growing in the Pollock Halls garden in Edinburgh. It is hard to imagine a more orderly structure in nature than a juvenile conifer during its first years. The Araucaria seem to maintain order longer than other species, and that's why they have such a distinct shape. It's hard to mistake it for anything else. The Norfolk Island Pine is similar, but its branches are much thinner. Eventually, the juvenile's orderly branches start competing for light — in the absence of neighbors, they will compete with each other — and their arrangement will become totally chaotic. This specimen is in the middle of its transition from order to chaos, which will probably be complete a few years. It is interesting that as the years go by, their crown's evenelope becomes very regular again, despite all the chaos within. If allowed to grow undisturbed for 100 years, it will become very smooth and symmetrical on the outside, almost like a solid of revolution (as can be seen on some other pictures in this set).
My mom bought me this Bricklink order for passover. Pretty good prices as well, 300 bricks for 20 bucks. Most of this is going towards the final stage of the castle. My Landscaping/building piece collection is finally where I want it to be, now I want to focus on some
cool minifigs to build up my Lenfald/Mitgardian forces!

Instead of showing you a simple picture of my current Modern Army, I wanted to make it a big more elaborate. So my Army consists of 1 Cheiftain MBT, 1 FV432, 2 Land Rover Snatch, 1 Land Rover Wolf, 1 MWMIK Jackal, 1 FV102 Striker, 2 General Utility Trucks, 1 Rapier Missile Launcher, and 1 V-150 Commando. Most vehicles are form Brickmania.

I plan to increase it substantially to include a couple more Chieftains and to expand on the CVRT collection by a lot! And I also might changed the trucks in the future. (Which are based on the Armorbrick GAZ-66 truck!

A portrait of John Martyn performing at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on his recent 'Grace and Danger' tour.
John has long been one of my favourite musicians and was (indirectly) responsible for me becoming interested in photography in the first place.
He's just been awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire - not that there is such an empire these days of course!) in the New Year Honours List for services to music.
It's been a thrill for me to have some of my photos of him feature on two official releases (the most recent being his current 4CD career retrospective Ain't No Saint.
I had the good fortune to be able to photograph this entire show from the edge of the stage, for which my thanks are due to John Hillarby who runs the official John Martyn website (and who also selected the tracks for Ain't No Saint).
If you've never heard of John Martyn, you owe it to yourself (and to a superb artist) to at least find out more. The official website is here:

This Old Order Mennonite man is sitting on a tractor pulling a wagon full of peppers, in late September.
He is surrounded by wholesale vegetable buyers who are bidding on his peppers..
His black nylon hat is standard attire for Lancaster County Plain Mennonites. Black hats and black hoodies. He is wearing suspenders under his hoodie, because these Mennonite men do not wear belts.
This guy's hat has lots of attitude, because he creased the hat's sides to make it look sporty.
I wanted his portrait to look like he is in a photography studio, rather than sitting on a tractor.
