A black screen is hung on the wall - or is it a canvas? You can almost look through it. One might think of Malevich’s black square, positioned in our white cube. Malevich’s masterpiece was hung on the top of a ceiling’s corner facing slightly downwards to the audience, a style which was reserved for russian icons only. If the viewer moves close to the installation, it starts to move, making the screen bend in the upper center.

The observer’s eyes can’t focus anymore and the idea of looking at/into something is broken. The emerging image is more a result of movement and less of shapes. Literally having a thin line between human and machine - digital evolution is alter the world, and it is impossible for the individual to keep step with it. Being both present and somewhat unknown, we follow our digital icon of today.

An exhibition about the foundation of The North Thingeyjarsýsla Co-operative Society opened in June 2010 at the District Cultural Centre in Húsavík. The Co-operative Society was founded by local farmers in 1882. The organization played a leading role in all sectors of the Icelandic economy throughout the 20th century.

Gagarín's challenge was to present the history of the co-operatives through interactive media and make an interesting presentation for the museum's guests, with special focus on the younger generation.

Gagarín's solution was to create a timeline application to display highlights of the history of the co-operatives on a large touch screen (46”), using videos, photos, text and narration in both Icelandic and English. The application enables guests to browse through the history, get a quick overview and get detailed information of any item of interest.

Co-op store, Hinckley, 2005- the front of the store looks 1970s/1980s but this bit out the back looks a lot older, possibly a different building altogether- maybe bakery or something once? I think this store may have been upgraded recently, must go and have a look soon...

A street cleaner at London's Piccadilly Circus.

Nathaniel Altamont Dee was born on the 2nd of December 1887 - a descendant of Elizabethan scientist and magician John Dee. Nathaniel's own interest in magic was piqued when he was fourteen years old. He saw "The Handcuff King" Harry Houdini on his European tour and was immediately taken with the idea of illusion.

He began to practice and had become quite adept at sleight-of-hand and (thanks to his keen observational skills) mentalism by the time he started university.

It was while he was attending Trinity College, Cambridge that he joined the University Bartitsu club and, later, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He had joined Golden Dawn on a whim at first, as he thought it would be an amusing diversion, but he later found out that the Order was a good deal more serious than he imagined.

Upon finishing his studies, Dee obtained a job at the Admiralty as a clerk. But his superior's recognised Dee's unique skills and he was immediately put to work in the Secret Service Bureau. His first assignment was as one of the investigators of the mysterious airships that were beginning to be seen in the skies over Britain.

On the eve of World War I Dee worked briefly with Sherlock Holmes in rounding up German agents and sympathisers. It was through contact with the great detective that Dee was offered a job working for the Directorate of Military Intelligence - MI-13 under the control of Mycroft Holmes. MI-13 was responsible for keeping tabs on - and combating - the supernatural German war effort in what came to be known as the "Shadow War".

The First World War never officially ended for MI-13. They continued to thwart the machinations of the Thule Society, the Ahnenerbe, the 5th Column and the Vril Society. When the Second World War broke out, it was business as usual for MI-13.

But, at the end of World War II, the peacetime British Government took steps to dismantel MI-13 - despite the protestations of the remaining active agents. Dee and the others knew that their services would still be required - there were still supernatural threats in the world. They decided to continue their work unofficially. Each MI-13 operative would form a small group of like-minded individuals. They would have no direct controller, but would operate as they saw fit.

Professor Nathaniel Dee was the fifth longest serving MI-13 agent and so was given the designation of "Group E".

Now he just needed to assemble his team. The things that went "bump" in the night would not wait ...

May 2013 update on the new Co-operative Food being built on Vicarage Road in Kings Heath.

Co-operatives UK is a British co-operative federation described as "the central membership organisation for co-operative enterprise throughout the UK". It was founded in 1870 as the Co-operative Central Board, changing its name to the Co-operative Union before finally becoming Co-operatives UK following its merger with the Industrial Common Ownership Movement (ICOM) in 2001. Historically associated with the consumer co-operatives, the merger broadened its scope to include worker co-operatives and it now exists to support and promote the values of the entire co-operative movement throughout the UK en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-operatives_UK
