George Shreve was a farmer who had come to Canada from Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Shreve was a younger sister of Mary Ann Shadd Cary and the first president of the Missionary Society of the conference into which the Baptist churches in SW Ontario were organized, so she helped to organized the caring of new arrivals of fugitive slaves into Kent County. I am a fourth generation descendant of Elizabeth and George.
Isaac Shadd was a younger brother of Elizabeth. He managed the day to day operation of the Provinicial Freeman newspaper while it was printed in Chatham, Ontario in the 1850s. Later Isaac was a member of the legislature in the state of Mississippi (representing Vicksburg) during the Reconstruction era and reached the position of Speaker of the House.

These are her words - Please share this with everyone you know ~
They say every scar tells a story. These images tell the story of my breast cancer scars. A photo journey of the contrasting emotions I experience on a daily basis. Feeling sad that my body will never look the same again, that I've somehow lost my sense of femininity and working to accept myself as I am, grateful to be alive. It took a very special working relationship to capture these moments with an amazing friend and photographer. The images, shot by Logan Foto, convey my emotions as I experienced them and reflect a raw and exposed side of me, rarely seen. These images, in addition to the physical and emotional artistic elements, are meant to bring awareness. Breast cancer affects everyone. Early detection and intervention are key to survival. My hope is that these images will inspire women to get regular screenings, as well as show them what they can expect from surgery. ~ Marzi Marz Feb 17, 2013

I thought quite long and hard about posting this vintage shot, because it is in such poor condition (maybe one of you Photoshop experts out there would like to try clean it up?). I have already removed some childish scribble (that I had done when I was 3 or 4 I think), but not attempted to remove the creases.
According to the caption this is the Co-Operative Guild Party, Gainsborough, April 17 1807 - an obvious error, must be 1907 I guess. The background is too indistict for me to hazard a guess at the location.

A black screen is hung on the wall - or is it a canvas? You can almost look through it. One might think of Malevich’s black square, positioned in our white cube. Malevich’s masterpiece was hung on the top of a ceiling’s corner facing slightly downwards to the audience, a style which was reserved for russian icons only. If the viewer moves close to the installation, it starts to move, making the screen bend in the upper center.
The observer’s eyes can’t focus anymore and the idea of looking at/into something is broken. The emerging image is more a result of movement and less of shapes. Literally having a thin line between human and machine - digital evolution is alter the world, and it is impossible for the individual to keep step with it. Being both present and somewhat unknown, we follow our digital icon of today.
...would be the headline.
My local Co-Operative perhaps needs to be a little more sensitive with their shop soiled / broken in transit merchandise at this time of year. But then throwing them out wouldn't be right either - thats no way to treat them considering the amount of effort that has been taken to farm and manufacture the resources to make these biscuits and its packaging.

Co-operative Farms manages over 70,000 acres (280 km2) of land across Great Britain which provides an increasing number of products, such as soft fruit, potatoes, flour and cider, to Co-operative Food stores allowing the group to further differentiate itself from competitors. Most of the shops here seem to have vacant units.
The illuminated sign features a finely dressed Mr Pig in formal morning dress, doffing his top hat to welcome people to Dandenong. Originally part of a larger sign that incorporated the Gippsland Co-operative Bacon Curing Company logo, the Dandy Pig neon sign was located above the Dandy Bacon shop on the west side of Lonsdale Street (Princes Highway), facing traffic which crossed Foster Street from Gippsland. After the factory was closed in 1983, the sign was removed and placed into storage.
In 1993, the Dandy Pig sign was erected at the Dandenong Market in Clow Street, as acknowledgement of the sign’s iconic status. A few years later, minor conservation work was carried out and on 6 December 1996 the City of Greater Dandenong unveiled the refurbished sign at the market.
Between 2005 and 2010, the Dandenong Market underwent a $26 million redevelopment and the Dandy Pig illuminated sign was again taken down and safely placed in storage.
On 30 August 2013, City of Greater Dandenong officially celebrated the re-instatement of the Dandy Pig illuminated sign at the Dandenong Market, as an acknowledgement of the sign’s social, cultural and historical significance in Greater Dandenong.
In 2015, the Dandy Pig was immortalised in stamp form as part of a limited edition commemorative 'Sign of the Times' stamp collection released by Australia Post.

The compulsion to photograph Somerfield stores continues... presuming the Co-op purchase of this group goes through as planned, I suspect one of the Bourton stores (Co-op or Somerfield?) would have to close..
