Small daisy-like wildflowers growing at the Seminary Fen Scientific & Natural Area in Chanhassen/Chaska, Minnesota. I believe that these might be White Asters, but I am not sure.

This was originally the site of the Mudcura Sanitarium, a world-famous spa that was opened in 1909 and operated until 1951.

Per MNOpedia, in 1951, the sanitarium was sold to the Black Franciscans, Order of Friars Minor Conventual, from Louisville, Kentucky. They named it Assumption Seminary and the site became linked with both the Colleges of St. Catherine and St. Thomas in St. Paul.

The Seminary remained in operation until 1970 and then sat vacant for many years, becoming a popular hangout for teens and other thrill seekers. The main building burned and was demolished in 1997.

The land is now home to a Minnesota DNR Scientific & Natural Area that protects the rare calcareous fen that is now the star of the show here.

As dusk descends on the city, the lights create reflection in the calm waters of the mighty Mississippi.

Night falls on the Minneapolis skyline as commuters fill the freeway.

After days of incessant rain, the sky finally produced a photogenic sunset. This was captured from the Franklin Avenue bridge near the U of M campus.

The Minneapolis skyline cannot compete with the Cathedral of Saint Paul as it's lit up for Red Bull Crashed Ice 2015.

The trees around our neighborhood in Savage, MN have started to bud after weeks of rain and warm temperatures.

The stunning beauty of the mosaic interior of the Lakewood Cemetery Chapel is augmented by red Poinsettias to celebrate the Christmas season.

It looked like we were going to have an impressive sunset last Thursday so I thought I'd try my hand at some time lapse photography coupled with HDR. This is a 7-bracket HDR from somewhere in the middle of the sequence. I compressed 25 minutes worth of images into a 7 second video that you can see here

The riverfront docks of St. Paul are still empty after a long winter.

From the new US Bank Stadium to the purple-lit 35W bridge, the Minneapolis skyline lights the Friday night sky in this ultra-wide angle view.

3/2 Bar/Lodge at Chub Lake Resort along State Hwy 1 between Isabella and Ely, Minnesota. Locals and tourists who have been around long enough remember this place as a busy little tavern that they'd stop at on the way to or from Ely. The resort, which still has several cabins standing, has been here since the 1920's and was owned for years by Bob and Lois Anderson.

A family from the Princeton, MN area bought it in 1973. I haven't been able to find out when or why it eventually closed. My guess is that it was in the late 70's or sometime in the 80's when a lot of mom and pop places were lost to the changing economy and rising gas prices.

Word has it that a couple from the Twin Cities own it now and that they wanted to restore the place, but found out that the cost would be prohibitive. A major issue is that the lodge was made of poplar logs and some of the bottom ones are rotten. Meanwhile, harsh weather and vandals continue to take their toll. #ONLYinMN

One of the largest fireworks shows in the country is launched from the 3rd Avenue Bridge over the Mississippi River near Downtown Minneapolis.

Camping at Gooseberry Falls State Park in 1980 with my University of Duluth roommates. Four people and two backgammon games - we were heavy into backgammon when we were at UMD.

At some point during this stay a skunk hauled off one of our loaves of bread. Yes, skunkie - take whatever you want!

Gooseberry Falls State Park is located in Castle Danger, Minnesota (north of Two Harbors) on Lake Superior's North Shore.

I found it interesting that the Minnesota Historical Society and Minnesota DNR and some other reference tools all say that the CCC-built picnic tables with the stone bases were only in the picnic areas in the park.

Well, we were sitting on one right here in the campground, albeit one with milled lumber tabletop and benches as opposed to the log ones that the CCC made. I suppose the tables in the campground must have been made later.
