The mysterious moon. The full moon with rays casting shadows as if it were day. The illuminated rays stretch from the heavens across the lands below. I close my eyes, and travel. The nocturnal vibes invade my body, my heart, my soul. I hear the mystic, yet soft voice of the wind whisper in my ear, "the night is yours".
The moon guides me, the stars tell me not to worry, guiding me towards a place unknown by the world, yet so familiar. I sit in silence in awe of the natural glow as if a comforting night light guides me down the hallway. Melodic sounds of swaying branches, crashing waves, or blowing leaves tell me the night is alive with beauty. They scream their joy. They sing life. Crickets hiccup their nocturnal sounds, bull frogs bellow in deep harmony and critters scatter under the brush here and there.
The moonlight disperses through my skin, through my bones, through my soul. I become one with the night. The sounds and stress of the day are a distant memory. Calmness sinks into me. Peace surrounds every bit of my being. I join the symphony of the night. I once again become human, I become the night; I feel the pains, and I feel the joys.
At last I feel warmth. I was a prisoner of the present - surviving through days, weeks, months, and years. Never knowing that what I missed most was inside my soul.

By far, White Sands is my most favourite place in America. It's so surreal to be amongst the vast white dunes of gypsum sand. More than this, I hear each breath, footsteps mean something and White Sands is entirely peaceful. I've walked, hiked and slid down the massive dunes tho' the biggest thrill came when an Air Force pilot strapped me in his plane, took the door off and allowed me to literally hang out to photograph the landscape below. It might be said that these white sand dunes touch my soul.

The Golden Jubilee Bridges rank high on my list of favourite London bridges. The contemporary style is completely appealing amongst so many iconic London structures in the near vicinity. Either under the bridges or walking across, the views of London are brilliant.
On one side there is the London Eye, Big Ben, and County Hall. You'll even have a glimpse of Westminster Palace from the bridge. On the east side of the bridge, the views include Royal Festival Hall, the National Theatre, Southbank, St Paul's Cathedral, The City of London and of course - The River Thames. I'm easily entertained and so I very much like watching London's iconic red double-decker buses cross Waterloo Bridge with St Paul's Cathedral and The City of London in the background.
While preparing for my London book I have spent countless hours in this area. Each time I am there - even today, I find new London scenes to photograph at night. You can't go wrong discovering the sights from the Golden Jubilee Bridges.
Often, some of the lights are not working on the bridge leaving a dim blue hue. This sort of reminds me of the lighting in a nightclub, but without the loud banging music. You will, however, be met with buskers along the way playing a variety of music, and sometimes a man selling roasted nuts.
Typically, the Golden Jubilee Bridges are my link from Embankment to the Southbank. I often find walking in London is just as quick as public transportation, and the sights are far better, too.

If it is possible for a landscape to touch the soul, then White Sands is the place. Large white gypsum sand blows across the Tularosa Basin forming various types of dune formations. White Sands is a vast sea of white in the brown Chihuahuan Desert with the Sacramento Mountains in the background. A bit out of the way, but not too far if you want to be left speechless by a brilliant landscape.
Why should White Sands be on your travel list? There are the obvious reasons: the unimaginable landscape, the coolness of the sand, or the large patch of white in the otherwise brown Chihuahua Desert.
Then there are my deeper reasons for those in a quest to find something extraordinary.
My List Of Why White Sands Should Be On Your Travel List:
:: Your mind will travel miles away from everyday life.
:: White Sands will touch deep within your soul.
:: You'll notice every breath and hear your every step.
:: The silence will let you hear your thoughts.
:: You'll better understand the power of nature.
:: You can test your strength inside and out.
:: No better place to get yourself centred.
:: One of the most amazing landscapes you'll ever see.

What more could I say about White Sands in Southern New Mexico except This IS White Sands? I've posted so many articles about the great white sand dunes found unexpectedly amongst the Chihuahua Desert.
The dunes are like an oasis in the middle of a brown desert. They are more than crystals of gypsum. They are more than curvaceous free formed dunes. They are more than a stark and surreal landscape.
White Sands will touch your soul, if you let it. Be prepared to let go of whatever troubles you and I can guarantee all of your problems will go away. Everything is right in the world with each step you take. The rough terrain may appear to be unforgiving, but you'll be forgiven for whatever ails you.
I'm serious. These white sand dunes have a healing power unlike most other landscapes in the world. I say this with confidence as I've been around the world many times in my time.
The wind whispers in your ear and tells you everything will be ok. Climbing a massive dune reminds you life can indeed be a struggle at times, but you will reach the top. There is no other choice. Each step you take in the incline also pushes you a foot behind. You keep going, however, because giving up is not an option. When you do reach the top of the mighty sand dune, you're wrong to think you have nowhere else to go. Instead, you accept another dune's challenge and climb again. And, that's life.

Many bridges in London offer stunning views for photographers and visitors alike. Chelsea Bridge has been one of my favourites for several reasons. It is a cool looking bridge, especially illuminated at night. The lights swoop from one end of the bridge to the other in beautiful fashion. Additionally, the lighted bridge reflects beautifully in the Thames River.
Chelsea Bridge offers a nice view of Albert Bridge, which is further west along the river. Albert Bridge also illuminates beautifully in the night. My number one recommended view from Chelsea Bridge is Battersea Power Station. This iconic power station takes me back to another time in London and for this reason, I've become fascinated with it. In fact, one might say I've stalked Battersea for years as I've been to this area over and over again. I've also explored every angle of the building with my camera.
With the redevelopment of the Battersea Power Station, the verdict is out whether or not this remains a favourite area of mine. From what I have seen thus far, the view of the iconic building will be blocked a bit while standing on Chelsea Bridge. In the end, it may very well be brilliant all the way around. Will the building remain one of my top night photography spots? Let's wait and see.
If you are not into photography should Chelsea Bridge be high atop your things to do in London list? My honest answer is no.
Getting to Chelsea Bridge does take some effort.

When I decided to head back to Europe again this year, I had to stop and really think through what it was I wanted to shoot. A good many landscape photographers think it's sacrilege to include any man-made structures in your shot. I remember years ago I posted a shot to some random reddit page and was summarily screamed at for including a cabin in my shot. And many landscape photography contests will emphatically state that as well.
So...maybe this makes me less of a "landscape" photographer, but the one thing I was dying to shoot this year in the alps were the little churches and chapels that dot the countryside throughout Northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia. There's just something about the juxtaposition of these tiny, man-made structures surrounded by so much incredible majesty and grandeur in all directions.
After scouting for locations before I left, I had somewhere between 50-100 pins for chapels on google earth, but this one had been at the top of my list for several years. It's definitely one of the more iconic spots for photographers, and as such, many of the more serious landscape and travel photographers might pass on it. But I couldn't. I spent two evenings shooting this particular chapel from just about every conceivable angle, and had a wonderful time doing it. Interestingly, I didn't see ANY other photographers at this location on either night.
I meant to post all of my autumn shots last month, but I started teaching a new online class this year in addition to my choral groups, and things got pretty crazy. Now that my concerts are done, I'll be trying to post a bit more regularly as I've got quite a bit to catch up on.

Whether I’m hiking or mountain biking, Cloudcroft is my top spot to escape the West Texas Summer heat. Nestled up in the Sacramento Mountains high above the desert, this is where I enjoy a glorious view of White Sands in the far distance before starting out on my favorite trek—Trestle Trail. What a sublime scene it is.
The area’s elevation and closely woven pine trees offer immediate relief from the West Texas heat. As I descend the winding trail, the air cools almost to a chill. Vegetation becomes denser and more varied, with clusters of vines clinging to any support they can find. The murmur and trickles of water can be heard as streams make their way to the high canyon floor. The sights and sounds are calming. This is beauty in nature at its best.
This trail is not to be rushed, as it is here that nature awakens the senses to its idyllic beauty, its euphonic natural sounds, its savory green and earthy scents. The treat at the end of Trestle is to lie in the tall wispy grasses at the bot- tom, without a care for anything awaiting outside these mountain walls. Its as if the world slows; the roller coaster of life comes to a halt, even if for a brief moment in time.
The village of Cloudcroft and its environs lie within Lincoln National Forest, a protected forest in New Mexico that encompasses more than a million acres.

Our world is under a lot of pressure these days. This is true on either side of the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans. I'm unsure what's happening to be honest except everyone is beyond stressed and no one can say anything right. If you want an escape from the madness, there is a tiny little Buddhist Kingdom at the base of the mighty Himalaya Mountains called Bhutan. Some refer to Bhutan the Last Shangri-La.
You know you're in a special place even before landing at the airport in Paro. Pilots skillfully navigate between massive mountain ranges as if they are meandering on a mountain road. It's incredible. If you're lucky enough to sit next to a window, you'll have a delightful landscape show that you'll never expect.
gentlemanwayfarer.markpaulda.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/...
You'll also know you're in a one of a kind destination when you pick up your luggage from the one and only carousel in the airport terminal.
Your Bhutanese experience will only continue to get better day by day. What I'm really saying is you won't have a bad experience in Bhutan. The Bhutanese are beautiful, peaceful and well beyond friendly. Their smiles will make you melt. Do keep in mind the Bhutanese enjoy their quiet so keep your Western voices down to a minimum.
Schedule your journey to Bhutan to coincide with one of the many festivals that take place throughout the year. You'll be treated to traditional Bhutanese music and dancing.

Travel Destination :: Bottom Bay in Barbados
By Far, Bottom Bay in Barbados was my favourite trek on the island. It is tucked away on the south coast, and mostly frequented by the locals, so finding it is not the easiest for a visitor to Barbados. You have to know it is there. Parking is easy, and the approach is a cliff overlooking the beach down below.
The beach is semi-enclosed by high coral cliffs, providing a panoramic view of the south shore. The scene is completed by the presence of tall palm trees that add to the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere of the bay.
As I stood on the cliff I could see a fast-moving storm racing across the Caribbean Sea - right for me! My first instinct was to run to the car, which I began to do, though it did not take long for me to stop. I walked back to the edge of the cliff, and let the pounding warm rain drench me. It was as if all cares literally were washed away. Perhaps that is a bit dramatic, but it was one of the best feelings ever. After all, on the beach, one gets wet, right?
If Barbados is your travel destination, escape the crowds and head directly for Bottom Bay. The beach is small but one of the most beautiful you'll see. And, I don't recommend letting your camera get soaked in a rainstorm, though mine survived just fine.
Destination: Bottom Bay, Barbados

Hi everyone! I toke another summer pic haha I have to take advantage of the fact that at least in SL I can enjoy the summer and go to the beach.
I'll be back to class soon and I'm a bit in denial, I'm not a big fan of online classes but I still try to see the positive side.
I hope everyone is having a great day *hugs*

This was a fun image. And a lot of work. The background is from the ruins of the United Comstock Merger Mill at American Flats, Nevada, demolished in late 2014. "The working life of this cyanide-processing operation, once the largest in the country, began in 1922 and ended just four years later with the collapse in the price of silver. All salvageable equipment and building materials were removed soon afterward. The eight buildings on the site slowly decayed, but provided an engaging post-apocalyptic setting for graffiti artists, photographers, and airsoft warriors. For many growing up in the area the site served as a favored coming-of-age venue for escaping parental authority." (From All Around Nevada)
My husband and I found it and photographed these ruins in 2013 over two days.
I took an online class this year in compositing. Sure, I knew how to composite, but this took us so much further, adding atmosphere and ensuring that the light fit the image, including adding appropriate shadows. The musician was photographed late on Christmas Eve, I think in 2012, in San Francisco. His notes eerily echoed thru the empty canyons of downtown highrises. I knew this was who I wanted to later composite into the Comstock ruin.
A month ago I managed the mood I'd envisioned with the graffitied columns seeming to lean forward to listen as if the musician's audience. Enjoy. If you like this sort of thing. n

Posting something completely different....
The American artist Chuck Close, photographed his subjects first and then copied them in paint onto large..make that HUGE canvases...his goal was to make the paintings resemble a photograph as closely as he could...this is a finished canvas of his friend Frank...
When I was at the Mpls. Institute of Arts and saw how many people stopped and looked....and stayed, I knew I had to capture this iconic scene.

(MARCH 30: Last week or so I've 'sunk below the surface'......finally bought new lens today after much research and making my local camera store mentor either love or hate me with my many questions, learning CS5 and Lightroom (great buy on the two), need to buy an external drive, and cull/organize better my photos)....and starting the online class I purchased awhile ago......so I'm slowing down on flickr a bit, but will catch up with you folks, groups, postings as I'm able....take care of yourselves in the meantime, and I'll be popping in to see what you're doing....big hugs to you:)........Pat
PS: After looking over Lightroom and viewing some tutorials I think how much simpler iPhoto organization is.....but I've decided to make a transfer (am now shooting in RAW only) with my new photos to LR>external drive....the drive which I still need to purchase. At this point I'm still sticking with Canon, new lens for my XSi....EF-S 2.8 17-85mm.....30 day trial period.....not going to buy a new camera yet.....just making a sideways move:).......am thinking I will go 2.8 70-200 with 2x teleconverter (400mm) for wildlife....2.8 will go up to 5.6 w/teleconverter.
Btw I LOVE CS5.....easier than PSElements in my opinion as far as I have used it although Camera Shop Mentor says that what I'm doing in CS5 for basic editing, I can as easily accomplish in Light Room....maybe so and use CS5 more for creativity....anyone have thoughts, opinions on this?
1/8 sheet watercolor painting. This is another attempt of the color with flow portrait in David Lobenberg's online class #1. It's hard for me to do the same thing more than once!
