Last week the days turned colder almost overnight and poking around outside one morning we found a butterfly that was struggling mightly with the chilly wind. K picked it up and instantly fell in love. We kept him for a few hours, just long enough for his little wings to warm up and then reluctantly (and tenderly) K let him go out back.
But not before he had already fallen in love. Hard. That night he sobbed the most heart wrenching sobs, big shoulder shuddering sobs that tear at your insides and make you want to promise the world. The world and anything else within arms reach just to make it right again.
The next morning, still wounded he asked for the polaroids I had taken and carefully taped them together and mounted them to a sheet of paper with the handwritten title, "BUTTERFLY" (you almost always write in all caps, just like me).
His name is "Pumpkin Black".

Three cameras, three films.
I recently acquired this potted tree from a neighbor. It's in a pretty small pot, so I'm sure it needs repotting. I'm going to have to smash this nice pot in order to remove it. The trunk was surrounded by sedum, which kept it moist, but perhaps too much so, such that the trunk was soft, like the beginning of rot. So I pulled out all the sedum and I got a good look at the base and surface roots. It's a beautiful tree and has a strong "shari" (otherwise known as deadwood) running up one side. I'm very excited to work with it.

I wish Polaroid could get their color film as dialed in as the black and white film is. The color film is usually pretty good, but it's just not as consistently awesome as the monochrome. Just look at the dynamic range, resolution, and contrast! It looks so good while still delivering instant film character.
Anyway, this is another of my favorite places in Colorado from my most recent family vacation. Hard to beat standing by the side of a stream at elevation in the Rockies.
