Wellington Botanic Garden - 2015
This is a Aloe polyphylla, or Spiral Aloe. The plant is native to the Drakensberg mountain region in Lasotho and South Africa. Surprisingly they are used to cool summers, and are usually covered in deep snow in the winter. This is a small one, as they don't adjust well to being out of their natural habitat.
View in Black.....Antelope Canyon drains from the south into Lake Powel (once the Colorado River). It is really two separate canyons, Upper and Lower Antelope.
Better view in Black....
A stunning capture of zebras in their natural habitat, gracefully moving through the Namibian wilderness. Their black-and-white stripes contrast beautifully against the arid landscape, symbolizing the untamed spirit of Africa.
Smash Palace - 2015
There are simply too many vehicles to count on the site, there are fields full of rusting carcasses from the 2000s right back to the 1920s - possibly older. The yard was here long before the movie too, since the 1940s.
2 days after my daughter's funeral.
Look what happened today!
This beautiful bird came walking up the street to me.
Yesterday it hung around the kids as they played outside.
The 10/8 Blood Moon. This time with a much better camera and better glass! And like I said before, this is just a lunar eclipse - no bad omens!
View of Tokaanu and Lake Taupo - 2015
From the view point on Te Ponanga Saddle Road looking towards Tokaanu and Lake Taupo, we stopped here after the Tongariro Alpine Crossing to take in the sight.

.........I doubt i'll ever witness a more surreal moment than when I took this pic.Want a little story?,then i'll begin.....
A couple of weeks ago I went to Dorset for a holiday but we called in at my wifes sisters to split up the journey and to pay a visit. The following morning we went for a walk and in the local woods I spotted loads of trees all perfectly in rows.Didnt have my camera with me so when we got back to the house I thought i'd go back and try to make a few pictures,my Mrs came back for the walk too.Anyway,I was just setting up and looking at angles when I went back to my bag for a longer lens when something caught my eye,I looked around and saw this Deer off to one side.I gave Gill a shout and said 'look, theres a bloody Deer over there!',she came over to look and we both stood there amazed.I said to her, 'it would make my day if it trotted over into that gap in the trees.....',and it did!,couldn't believe it!,I quickly took some pics as it stood there watching us,must have been only about 20 seconds then off it went.I hastily took about 10 shots, and this was the sharpest.I know its not the best pic in the world but when we look at it we just remember how gobsmacked we were to be there :),
Thanks for reading (if you have!),
Chris.
Legadema and her 3 week old cub, while moving to a new den. I think this will forever remain my greatest - and heart wrenching - wildlife experience. Taken through twigs, grasses, awful light etc etc. As always, Mombo, Botswana.

I've chosen a selection of my favourite photos that I took during 2013, this set is all about my Favourite bird - The Kingfisher
Shotover River, Queenstown - 2015
Flying over Shotover River on approach to Queenstown Airport (ZQN).
Where I was positioned, I was intentionally under some trees to have a little shade on an extremely hot August afternoon in Tennessee. This resulted in a nice view, through the trees, of the few brief moments of 'totality' when the sun was completely occulted by the moon. It's not as easy to see in this photo as the previous versions but just as amazing at the same time...

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~Jeremiah 29:11
I asked myself, "Well, how did I get here?"
This is the water of Nyberg Creek just before it is channeled through a culvert passing underneath SW Martinazzi Ave.
38 minutes before sunset.
A shot of the legendary (and let us not forget...Scottish!) David Byrne, performing earlier tonight at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.
Mr Byrne has long been one of my favourite musicians and performers. Alas, I missed seeing him in his Talking Heads days...but I've watched him since his first solo tour back in 1988.
I was desperate to get a photo pass for this one...and thanks (once again!) to Alex Hewitt at The Scotsman, I indeed managed to do so.
However, when I got to the GRCH I was told that photo pass holders could only shoot from the aisles...not in front of stage as normal. Ah well...I was hardly about to complain.
However, when David came on stage...he mentioned that while there were a few "professional" (apparently that would be me!) photographers in...everyone was welcome to take photographs with their camera phones or digital compacts.
Happily, having bought my tickets as soon as they went on sale...I was sitting in the second row of the stalls...almost dead centre. So, after shooting the standard three songs from the aisles with my trusty Canon 5D, I shot the rest of the concert from my seat, with my Canon Powershot G9...and got some lovely results.
This was taken during "Once in a Lifetime" and exactly at the point where the lyric that features in the title of this picture was being sung. It helps if you know the material! :-)
Since Mr Byrne is one of my heroes...I love this shot...and it's the kind of thing which makes concert/stage photography such a joy for me. Overcoming the technical challenges of stage lighting is one thing...but when you can capture the energy and passion of a live performance....Woo-Hoo! :-)
Oh...and before the gig I was chatting to a nice lady who also had a photo pass...but had no camera. Apparently she was there to...um...well....you know how you get courtroom sketch artists? Apparently there are some (well...at least one!) intrepid concert sketch arists. I can't begin to imagine the difficulties she faced...but I hope she enjoyed her night! :-)
You can see some other pics of this fabulous performer in my David Byrne set.
New Napier Arch, Napier - 2015
The centre of Napier is really the Soundshell, it is a unique centre piece for the rebuilding from the devastating earthquakes of 1931. It was the heart of restyling the city as a 'modern city of the future', and was funded by citizens 'buying' paving slabs etc... crowdfunding pre-internet!
It is an open air public events arena, with an 'outdoor dancing area'.
Devonport - 2015
Holden Monaro (HQ) LS from 1971-73, you can tell this baby is from the 70s by the colour!
Wellington - 2015
A '56 Buick Riviera at the Havana Coffee Works, on Tory St in the Te Aro district of Wellington. Such a cool car, but I was too late for a coffee.
Rakaia River, Canterbury - 2015

Quand je suis sur la plage jouer, je sentis comme je suis jeune avec rien responsibilite. Les ditent que la jeunesse est gache sur la juvenile. Toujours, toujours, toujours, etre jeune.
When I am on the beach playing, I feel like I am young without responsibility. They say that youth is wasted on the young. Always, always, always, be young.

My dear, most-remarkably-loving-adored-by-everyone-who-met-her-sweetheart, Rusty died in May 2012. Starting that year I've put together an orange-themed container each May in her memory. Creating a living memorial, caring for it and watching it grow is a great pleasures for me.
The container is in a sunny spot. Just wait to see it in a month or so.
