The descending path of the eastward flowing James River makes an ideal route for Appalachian coal by rail bound for tidewater ocean shipment. The Chesapeake and Ohio James River subdivision, built using the towpath of the never completed James River and Kanawha Canal beside the James, became the low-grade route for tonnage trains rather than the original C&O mainline which crossed three mountain summits between the same end points. While two class H-8 Allegheny 2-6-6-6 locomotives were required to lift coal trains east over the Alleghany Summit to the west, only a single Mikado 2-8-2 or Kanawha 2-8-4 locomotive was needed east from Clifton Forge to Richmond following the James River. A locomotive coal and water facility was located at Balcony Falls, named for nearby rapids in the descending James, near the town of Glasgow, Virginia. In 1942, a new cylindrical 300-ton reinforced concrete coaling station was constructed by Ogle Engineering between the eastbound and westbound main tracks to service trains stopped on either mainline. A large steel tank to store treated locomotive boiler water was located nearby between the eastbound track the James. Although EMD diesel electrics replaced C&O’s steam in the late 1950s, most of the steam era infrastructure at Balcony Falls remains today unused. Today, CSX combines two loaded eastbound coal trains near the mine or in Hinton, West Virginia and operates them in a 2 X 2 consist using Locotrol Distributed Power. After releasing brakes in Clifton Forge, gravity and dynamic brake do nearly all the work to Richmond. Empties return west with the same four locomotives placed on the head end with three of the four on-line.
The setting late summer sun highlights anything drifting in the hazy atmosphere. CSX loaded coal train C211-18 from Shelby, Kentucky glides through Balcony Falls with 220 loads for the Dominion Terminal at Newport News, Virginia bathed in golden reflection.

Auf der Linie 3 kamen nur T6A2 in Einfach Traktion zum Einsatz. Hier ist der Wagen 900 an der Haltestelle mit der im Hintergrund
[EN] After my stay in Romania was shorter than planned, I spontaneously went to Szeged for one night for the MAV TramTrain as well as the KT4D and T6A2.
Only T6A2 in single traction were used on line 3. Here the car 900 is at the stop with the one in the background
I think this is a Ruby Throated Hummingbird, but I may be wrong. His colors are a little different than pics I found on line of Colorado birds.
He is very small, about 2"-3" long, he landed in a branch just above me and just sat there quietly.
We went to a local bazaar in Washago today, it was windy and these items of clothes were blowing vigorously. It has been a long time since I have seen this sight.
I do not believe that this was someone's personal wash, but a bit of fun! Best seen large.
Thanks for visiting, enjoy each day.
many a day we find waiting on line
while standing there we have lots of time
and what do we hear but a complaint or a whine
oh why oh why does this take so much time
so i suggest that we change our point of view
and deal with the truth between me and you
take time to say thanks that we can be safe and secure
while waiting here we don't have bombs to endure
rather here than waiting in a line of the starving
we could manage to give thanks and ask pardon
one more moment of life to give thanks for all good
not the should or would but perhaps i could
give some good in a world of time without rhythm or rhyme.
Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. —Eph 4:29-32

SBB CFF FFS: at the Pfäffikon SZ station there are four EMUs. On the left, on track 5, the six-car EMU RABe 511 022 working the Interregio train 2365 on line IR35 from Zürich HB to Chur. On track 6, the EMU RABe 511 004, which will leave a quarter of an hour later with a train on line S5 to Zug. And on track 7, EMU 514 004 ready to depart working a train on line S8 to Winterthur.
The minute I saw this chart on line I knew it had to be knit into a hat. Hat number 57, so far this year. 58 on the needles now.
Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dongdaemun_Design_Plaza:
Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a major urban development landmark in Seoul, South Korea, designed by Zaha Hadid and Samoo, with a distinctively neo-futuristic design characterized by the "powerful, curving forms of elongated structures." The landmark is the centerpiece of South Korea's fashion hub and popular tourist destination, Dongdaemun, featuring a walkable park on its roofs, large global exhibition spaces, futuristic retail stores, and restored parts of the Seoul fortress.
The DDP has been one of the main reasons for Seoul's designation as the World Design Capital in 2010. Construction started in 2009, and it was officially inaugurated on March 21, 2014. It is physically connected to Seoul Subway via Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station on Line 2, 4, and 5.
The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) was designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, winner of the 2004 Pritzker Prize, with the concept of "Metonymic Landscape". Metonymy refers to a method of describing a specific object indirectly, and Hadid integrated historical, cultural, urban, social, and economic aspects of Seoul deduced from this method in order to create a scene of the landscape. Designed as a cultural hub in the historical district of Seoul, South Korea's largest fashion district, the DDP is composed of undulating surfaces that resemble the flow of liquid and allow flexibility in space. The state-of-the-art BIM (Building Information Modeling), mega-truss (extra-large roof truss) system, and space frame system are the key features in terms of creating grand-scale spaces. According to Hadid, the fundamental features of her design were "transparency, porousness, and durability." Many ecological features, including a double-skin facade, solar panels, and a water recycling system, are included in the building.
The construction project for replacing Dongdaemun Stadium with a public park has been discussed in the media since 2000, and the city of Seoul established a basic master plan for alternating the function of Dongdaemun Stadium in 2005. Upon the advice of architects, and in order to secure a high-quality design for the new landmark of Seoul, the city invited architects in February 2007 to participate in a design competition. The city requested that the architects include a design plaza, underground spaces, a history park, and a culture park in the project, according to the guidelines. Zaha Hadid's Metonymic Landscape won the competition.
The exterior envelope of the DDP, a smooth and giant mushroom-like structure floating above ground level, is made of concrete, aluminum, steel, and stone. The interior of the building is finished with plaster reinforced with synthetic fiber, acoustic tiles, acrylic resin, stainless steel, and polished stone in the interior.
The community trampoline gets lots of use. Some adults have even been known to get a bounce out of time on it. We have family from other cities here and more coming so I may not get on line so often the next few days. Thanks for visiting our summer Christmas,
I am asked this question frequently. I put in my time researching on line information shared by other people interested in birds. One of the best local ones is the Fraser Valley Birding Forum Group and Ebird is the best one going for locations and sightings around the world. I occasionally get and give information to locals I know. I also just get out there and look and listen as best I can with old ears and eyes.
There are a lot of birds out there and you just need to put in your time. The more prep you put in the better your chances. Of course dumb luck is not to be discounted!

This Orthodox monastery is one of six remaining from the 14th - 16th century that can still be entered. Originally there were 24 but most are now just ruins. Locally known as the Monastic City of Rocks, The Holy Meteora to give it the true name is near Kalambaka in Greece. It's a trip worth making if you're fit enough to climb the many steps. Best viewed large :)) This image has now been made into an on-line jigsaw puzzle, so if that's your thing and you fancy giving it a try you'll find it on www.jigsawexplorer.com
Many thanks for your views and fav's, I love reading your comments and appreciate every one :))
