On May 28, the Westminster faculty and staff enjoyed a delicious breakfast and honored those who are celebrating milestone work anniversaries and those who will be moving on from Westminster at the conclusion of this school year.

Undersecretary of the Army Patrick Murphy is visiting Joint Base Lewis-McChord and the South Puget Sound in Washington State, Aug. 31 to Sept. 1.
On Aug. 31 he presented the Silver Star to Sgt. Edward L. Dvorak, a Tacoma, Washington resident, for his heroic actions in Vietnam on Nov. 30, 1968. The Silver Star is the military’s third-highest decoration for valor. In addition, he visited the Sheet Metal Workers Union in DuPont, Washington to discuss transition program partnerships for U.S. Army Soldiers transitioning out of military service. He also met with Soldiers from I Corps on JBLM, the installation's mission command headquarters.
Tomorrow, Sept. 1, he will conduct physical training with a unit here before departing.

White Angel - sounds harmless, be sure - it isn't!
We mean the complete redesign of a SL65 AMG build in 2005 to the new current
Design of 2008. Inden-Design only used Original-AMG parts fort he redesign!
After this modification the car introduce itself with impressive high-tech
components. The complete front-, rear- and bodyside lines now appear in a
new brightness - just like: the headlights, the bonnet and the front- and
rear valance, based on the design of the new SL-2008. At the rear valance
they attached a carbon rear diffusor and a sport exhaust system in the new
look of the original SL65 AMG. So now the complete redesigned car is hardly
to discern.
But this is not everything we changed.
The 3-parts aluminium rims are sized 10,5x19 inches at the front suspension
and 11,5x19 inches at the rear suspension.
The high performance tires are sized 255/30-19 and 305/25-19.
The tires are spinning curtly near the plate after a light of the wheel arch
border, also as a result of the lowering. The ABC-sports running gear became
optimized rather downcast by the Inden-Design-controller.
The exclusive and powerful engine performance emphasizes the technological
ambition which was committed to this project. If you kick down the
accelerator, a storm is brewing, which is rapidly deplated. The Inden-Design
modificated
AMG-engine is suited for full acceleration and also for relaxed cruising.
The engine, which is arranged with a re-engineered turbo charger, a
increasingly powerful intercoole, an extra gear oil cooler and an engine
improvement over a engine electronics, now proud carry out 680 HP.
For the interior of the White Angel indene design uses a sports valance from
the Black Series model in Alcantara.

Studio shoot of Card Captor Sakura group. Weeknight shoots in far away places where there's work the next day are not something I recommend.
This was taken pretty much at the end of the night. Lisa has pretty much given up and taken off her epic wings when we noticed there were a few feathers that have dropped on the floor. So, with Skye pinning her down to the floor, feathers flying everywhere mixed with a top down shot we get... well, I'm not entirely sure. But it's pretty :)

Students from College of DuPage composition courses showcased visual representations of their written works at the second annual “See Writing Differently: A Celebration of Student Writing.” The event featured the capstone research projects of more than 500 English 1102 students and included websites, podcasts, PowerPoint presentations, posters, brochures, videos and art created in conjunction with written works.

After shooting in the Marin Headlands with my friend Jeston (fyremoth) who was on vacation from the Air Force, we stopped by the Palace of Fine Arts to see how it's looking now that the fences and scaffolding was down. Looks great now.
Photos of trash and debris in and along the banks of the Historic Bread and Cheese Creek. Mark your calendars for the Spring Bread and Cheese Creek Cleanup on April 11, 2015 from 8 am - 2 pm in conjunction with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay's Annual Project Clean Stream! We will be targeting the area of the stream from the Berkshire Community to North Point Road! Volunteers of all ages and abilities are needed! Help us remove the trash before it flows into Back River, the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean! Every piece of trash removed is a small victory to be celebrated!
We run our cleanups as a family event with plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We welcome every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the cleanup. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we need people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to help at registration, setup food and snacks as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. We will provide lunch and snacks as well as gloves. A limited number of tools are available for sign-out, but suggest bringing your own if you have them.
Registration is at 2048 Plainfield Road, Dundalk, MD 21222 and will open at 7:00 am and we will enter the stream at 8:00 am after a brief orientation!
On Saturday, May 30th, the American Red Cross held A Night of Heroes & Jazz at Iowa Western Community College. The event was created to exhibit the gratitude both the Red Cross and the community feels towards individuals who have saved another person’s life or who have positively impacted the quality of life in the Heartland. Guests enjoyed live jazz, hors d’oeurves, live and silent auctions.
This year’s Heroes include a couple that never says “no” when they are called to help someone in western Iowa. No matter what time of day or what day of the year, Gerry Sue and Sal Rinella of Missouri Valley, Iowa, are ready to leave the comforts of home to provide help and hope. As the only disaster responders living in Harrison County, when a call to help a family after a home fire, tornado or flood comes in, the Rinella’s are out the door. They proudly accepted this year's Disaster Relief Hero award.
This year’s Service to the Armed Forces hero is Jeff Ballenger. Ballenger has played a vital role in local Honor Flights, a program dedicated to flying military veterans to Washington, D.C. to view military memorials. The commitment of this fifth generation Iowan led to a role as Executive Producer for “None Less Than Heroes – The Honor Flight Story,” a documentary on veterans who served in WWII and traveled to the nation’s capital from Council Bluffs.
The Commitment to Community hero award went to the Iowa West Foundation. Through hard work and strong leadership, Iowa West Foundation makes a difference in western Iowa towns and cities by supporting community programs which enrich families.
All proceeds support the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross.

Artist Profile (80 Words Max): The themes that I tend to explore within my practice revolve around the relationship between the rational, structured world and emotional, intuitive experience. I use various materials and processes in order to investigate aspects of systems and subjective perception. My most recent work focuses on the idea that the languages and tools that we acquire and use in order to understand our surroundings ultimately influence our perception of the sphere that we inhabit.
Piece Description: Resin Cones depicting data extracted from samples collected along my old school route. This is one branch out of a larger body of work, displaying various possibilities of representing information. The cones embody a particular approach or viewpoint, valid in its own right, but only one out of many possibilities.

"One of the most ancient churches in Milan, it was built by St. Ambrose in 379–386, in an area where numerous martyrs of the Roman persecutions had been buried. The first name of the church was in fact Basilica Martyrum.
"When St. Ambrose arrived in Milan, the local churches were in conflict with each other over the conflict between Arianism and the Nicene Creed as well as numerous local issues. He was firmly in support of the Nicene side of the conflict, and wanted to make northern Italy into a pro-Rome stronghold. He did this through both preaching and construction. He built three or four churches surrounding the city; Basilica Apostolorum (now San Nazaro in Brolo), Basilica Virginum (now San Simpliciano), and Basilica Martyrum (which was later renamed in his honor). A fourth church, Basilica Salvatoris (now San Dionigi) is attributed to him as well, but may not actually be from the 4th century. These churches were dedicated with anti-Arian language and as symbols of the wealth and power of the pro-Nicene faction in Milan.

A young woman with pale skin, dressed in a black and white servant’s uniform, stands reading a book behind a collection of urns, a figurine, and a stationary box arrayed on a tabletop in this vertical painting. Seen from about the hips up, the woman faces our left in profile as she gazes down at the open book in her hands. She has a turned up nose, smooth skin, and her lips are slightly parted over a rounded chin. Her blond hair is pulled up in a bun, and she wears a black dress with a wide, white collar and a white apron tied around her waist. A feather duster with a black handle is tucked under her left arm, closer to us, so the dark feathers fan out behind her. She stands in the corner of a room with light tan walls. Between us and the woman and running parallel to the bottom edge of the canvas, a wooden gaming table inlaid with a black and white checkerboard pattern on its top holds five objects. To our left, the hinged lid of a white rectangular box has been opened to reveal white note cards and envelopes. The inside of the box lid is painted cobalt blue. Next to the box is a white ceramic jar with a rounded body and a flat, dark lid. At the middle of the table and a little closer to us, a brown vase with a tall, inward curving neck sits next to a figurine of a person wearing a blue and pink kimono. Lastly, a white lidded jar painted in blue with a person and a landscape sits to our right. The artist signed and dated the painting in dark, capital letters near the upper left corner: “PAXTON” and “1910.”
William McGregor Paxton, along with his Boston School colleagues Edmund Tarbell, Frank Benson, and Joseph DeCamp, achieved institutional recognition and popular acclaim for paintings based on a single theme: a refined interior inhabited by a young woman as decorative as the still-life objects that surround her. The House Maid depicts a uniformed servant engrossed in a book and standing behind a table on which a group of still-life objects is displayed.
With the exception of the open stationery box on the far left, most of the items represented in The House Maid are East Asian: a white Chinese lidded jar, a vessel, a porcelain figure, and a Qing dynasty blue-and-white porcelain pot. All are reminders of New England's long history of trade with Asia.
The juxtaposition of Asian objects and a lovely woman was a typical motif in American turn-of-the-century painting. Reading was likewise a familiar and repeated subject: Paxton was unusual, however, in representing a servant rather than the usual lady of leisure. The items on the table are the housemaid's responsibility but are not her property.
Along with other members of the Boston School, Paxton was known to admire the paintings of Johannes Vermeer. In The House Maid, the stable triangular composition, muted palette, precisely rendered textures, meticulous arrangement, and sense of quiet absorption all have parallels in Vermeer's work.

Wookey Hole Caves are a series of limestone caverns, a show cave and tourist attraction in the village of Wookey Hole on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills near Wells in Somerset, England. The River Axe flows through the cave. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for both biological and geological reasons.Wookey Hole cave is a "solutional cave", one that is formed by a process of weathering in which the natural acid in groundwater dissolves the rocks.
The caves are the site of the first cave dives in Britain which were undertaken by Jack Sheppard and Graham Balcombe. Since the 1930s divers have explored the extensive network of chambers developing breathing apparatus and novel techniques in the process. The full extent of the cave system is still unknown with approximately 4,000 metres (13,000 ft), including 25 chambers, having been explored. Part of the cave system opened as a show cave in 1927 following exploratory work by Herbert E. Balch. As a tourist attraction it has been owned by Madame Tussauds and, most recently, the circus owner Gerry Cottle. The cave is noted for the Witch of Wookey Hole – a roughly human shaped stalagmite that legend says is a witch turned to stone by a monk from Glastonbury. It has also been used as a location for film and television productions.
Accelerated Breeding of Better Banana (ABBB) Annual Meeting from 23 - 25 May, 2022 in ARUSHA, Tanzania.
