They don't last long, but, when they are in bloom, these Blue Iris are the most striking flowers in the yard.
These precast concrete drainage pipes at a road construction area made for a nice background for the weeds... :P
Nothing special, just the shore line and this Bald Cypress tree, catching it's own little spot of sunshine, as we drifted by...
This old vase/planter has been laying out in the yard for about 5 yrs now....it had a pecan tree in it that was brought from the old house, but by the time I got around to transplanting it, the roots had grown so much that I couldn't get it out of the vase without breaking it!!
The tree is now dead, and I'm waiting for it to decompose enough to free the vase!!!!
Yeah, I'm lazy......'Form and Texture' On Black
This image is not generated by artificial intelligence. It is a real photograph, created through a play of reflections — a self-portrait captured using only a mirror and a window. I appear three times within a single frame: once as the photographer, once as a reflection in the glass, and once more in the mirror. Together, these layers form a symbolic triad — the demon, the observer, and the angel — coexisting in one image, in one unmanipulated moment. No digital alterations. Just light, reflection, and truth.
After doing heavy construction in an old un-air conditioned 3 1/2 story building in the French Quarter in the heat and high humidity of August in New Orleans, I've come to one inescapable conclusion...I'm just too damned old for this shit.
This is one of the existing windows in the 100 year old warehouse that we are converting to a private residence.
With a slight fog at my house yesterday morning, I figured I'd practice up on some night shooting. Well, more like blue hour shooting.
That's my back yard shed, btw, where I keep everything that I have no other place for...
My friends, Irrational Numbers, entertained us at a birthday party over the weekend. Outside with temps in the mid-90's, but it was fun just the same...
I may be absent Flickr for a while. My hard drive is dying, so I have to learn how to switch over to a new one before I lose a bunch of stuff. I guess it shouldn't take that long, but me and electronics don't really get along that well.
Wish me luck, and I'll see you guys in a while...
In case you're looking for some good post-editing software at an excellent price, check out Google's 'NIK Collection'. Years ago, when it was first introduced, this software cost around $500. After Google bought it, they lowered the price to the $150 range. They're now giving it away for FREE, and it includes the whole collection including Silver Effects Pro. Don't pass this up...just google 'nik collection and get yours... :)
...the sun still shines.
It's a little hard to tell at first, but this is actually a color shot that I desaturated and increased the contrast quite a bit. It was one of those dull grey mornings....
I'm surprised this came out in focus as it was so tiny. Just one of those teensy wildflowers you see when you look down.
Working on an idea I tried about 6 years ago but using a slightly smaller stencil has made the process more reliable. Hoping to create a series of these, just for fun. Thank you very much!
Probably the most photographed gazebo in Baton Rouge, because of it's location at the LSU University Lakes. I sometimes wonder if it actually sees any use...
"In flight you barely move
Or spend energy
To soar on the winds."
From a poem written by a friend of mine.
I don't usually post similar photos. I like to pick the best one to post, but I just couldn't make up my mind on this one, so...
It's been brining since 5 pm yesterday and will now air dry in the spare fridge till around 8 am. Then it's into the smoker for about 4 hrs!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Time to get out further from home to explore some of the locations marked on my list of places to visit. Met up with good mate and fellow LP Junkie Phill to scout the spot in daylight, we found a great composition for a landscape shot and fired off a few frames whilst waiting for sunset which turned out like many summertime sunsets with cloud off to the west blocking any direct light. Ended up getting a nice blue hour shot and then made our way to the church as it started to get dark.
In the car park we were approached by a guy who asked if we were having a nice evening and enjoying the amazing location, adding that is a "very special" place and that he was there with The Sculptress. We explained why we were there and showed him some previous Light Painting images. He said that he would ask The Sculptress to come over as she may like to meet us. As The Sculptress floated barefoot across the gravel car park towards us, Phill and I looked at each other with raised eyebrows knowingly. The Sculptress introduced herself (excuse me for not remembering her flamboyant name) and looked at some of our LP images then told us about how she is given visions by spiritual beings in her sleep, telling her to create natural stone spirals in different landscapes, with names like Golden Spiral Earth Dragon but in Italian. She asked if we had "noticed" anything on our visits to the many locations we had been to over the years? Phill immediately said "no, fuck all" and then explained that we are open to any paranormal happenings but have not had any? With our camera gear out of the cars we locked up and said we were off and The Sculptress and the guy walked away and as he did he turned to shake our hands, he said his name was Mike and added "Magic Mike". Made it a memorable night, we definitely "noticed" something that night!

While searching for a good sunrise pic this morning, I passed by this church under construction and stopped to check it out. Apparently, the collection plates have been good...
I appreciate that churchgoers want a nice church to pray in, but I can't help but think of all the good things for the community this congregation could have done with all that money...please don't hate me for saying that, but it's how I feel about it.
While I was at the Capitol grounds, I grabbed a bunch of Magnolia pics. The light was harsh, but I managed to get a few keepers.
Hoping for a good sunrise, I went to this local conservation area that surrounds part of the Amite River. No luck on the sunrise, but I did come away with this shot of a swampy area along side the river.
Have a great weekend, folks... :)
This Japanese Magnolia has had it's flower buds on all summer, but it will be Spring before the flower shows itself.
Have a great Sunday, everyone!
