This was taken at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. I thought it looked pretty natural for a man-made falls.
When I googled red-headed woodpecker, I found that they are also known as a Flying Checker-board, Half-a-shirt, Shirt-tail bird, Jelly Coast, and Flag Bird.
Fossils have been found up to 2 million years old, although mine is probably less than a year old... ;)

I'd never been to this guy's house before, but got invited because of my friends' band playing at the party. This guy was a master host and a grand fellow, who was REALLY into Christmas, music, and fun!
Merry Christmas, all!!!

I ran across this shot, of Mother Nature throwing a fit, in the archives that I never even processed. So, even though it's a Fall storm, it seems to fit the kind of Spring weather we've been having.
I'm 72 years old, a country boy, and I just learned that Dragonflies and Mosquito Hawks are not the same things. I've called Dragonflies 'skeeter hawks' my entire life, but just found out that Mosquito Hawks are actually Crane Flies.
What a naturalist I am.
I love these old cast iron garden benches that you find in many of the old plantation gardens. They're cool to the touch, even in hot Louisiana summers.
That's lawn debris that stuck to the bottom of a mushroom as it grew. They are usually so clean, but with all the heavy rain we've been getting I guess it gets splashed up from underneath.
This old, ravaged piece of art of mine from '72 seemed appropriate today, as I contemplate the turn of events from yesterday.

What a wonderful comeback our National Bird has made. I've seen more eagles in the last 10 years than I have in my whole life.
While looking for something to post, I saw this shot of Bisquit, my step-son's dog, and it brought a smile to my face. He brought Bisquit and Klause, a new German Shepard pup, over to meet our kitties last weekend and we had a good time playing fetch in the yard. The kitties didn't have as much fun as we did...*+^
A quick shot of the last remnants from the tree that I cut down. We still have the main trunk left to burn, which should be interesting. The trunk is hollow, so I'm hoping that, once lit, it will smolder till gone. The fire that you're looking at smoldered for 3 days!
I've been randomly going through my Lightroom catalog and deleting a bunch of old stuff to make room for some new stuff. I find it fun to finally process shots that, for one reason or the other, just didn't inspire me at the time. There is a lot of pure junk, but you still find some nice stuff that just needs a little TLC... :)
Have a great weekend, everyone, and I'll see you next week...
While taking some nature pics on Peairs Rd I noticed a trail leading into the woods and decided to follow it. At the end of the trail wasan old storage shed that looked to have collapsed from decay long ago.
This old rusty bicycle just screamed to be documented!!!!

I was watching a slideshow on Ipernity, from an account that I haven't used in a looooong time, and found this shot that I had never uploaded to Flickr and had thought that it was lost forever from a computer crash a couple of years ago. I was so happy to have found it, that I had to upload it here, just so I'll never lose it again...^+^
Louisiana is beginning the change from green to brown ....I can't wait for that first real cold snap!
