I had a rough week at work last week, but that was OK because I had something to look forward to on Saturday morning - meeting Gaylon Keeling [ www.flickr.com/photos/gaylon/ ] for the first time and making my first visit to the Blackwater Conservation Area, a setting I only knew about through some of Gaylon’s excellent nature photography.

I had a great time hiking the trails with Gaylon and learned these lessons from him:

(1) You gotta shoot in RAW. (Your storage limits permitting.) (I’m not shooting in RAW yet. It might be time.)

(2) Spot metering is a great tool.

(3) If someone asks you unexpectedly to shoot a wedding, think long and hard about whether it’s something you want to do.

(4) Whatever you do, have fun doing it!

It's shaping up to be a typical Louisiana Christmas...grey, wet, and warm... }=/

To me, Camellias are as pretty in death as when just blooming.

I simply MUST remember to get some OFF skeeter spray!!

btw...I wanted a shot of the river itself, but it's Summer and the thick growth of vines and prickly things blocked my way.

Have a great week!

From my new album "Anteprima Design Week" (in progress with new adds-on for the whole month of May).

A diptych showing the two sort of spider structures, called

"Il Ragno", completely covered by a steel roofing, at the Trade Fair Fieramilano-Rho, used as convention and conference halls.

The headquarters recently hosted the new edition of

Salone del Mobile / Euroluce while the "Fuorisalone" is everywhere downtown and animates especially in the evening.

The entire architecture is made with a modular structure, integrating glass, iron, steel, cement, but also lighter materials like aluminium, plexiglass.

The glass and iron walls of the entire complex, looking like boat sails, have been projected by the architect Massimiliano Fuksas.

One spider is positioned at the beginning of the visiting track and the second at the far end of the track, close to the last pavillions. The pedestrian floor (much larger than just a corridor) is lined by a long and wide pool.

Inside the fair arrive both the underground and the fast long-distance trains.

The whole perimeter of the fair is pedestrian area, so it is possible to stay outside and walk either outside or inside to reach each pavillion.

I've been lucky to arrive quite early, before the opening of the gates but was standing in a long line. At a certain point, I flashed a question and approached some security men and, while I was asking them for an indication, the gates opened and I found myself among the first visitors to enter !

This fact allowed me few minutes and many meters of empty spaces to photograph some views at the architectures without almost anybody in front of me (and my camera ;-)

To stay "free hands", I didn't take with me a tripod...Oh, and I wished to have had a wide angle lens...

As nice as the place is, I'm thankful to be home today, instead of there... :)

We're still on a weather roller coaster here in the deep south, with temps fluctuating from the 80's to the 20's on a weekly basis.

Stay warm!!

I've stopped at this spot down the road from me to shoot for a few years now. I used to be able to see where a house once stood on this property and there are flowering shrubs that are now growing wild.

A couple of years back, it had a for sale sign up, but it didn't stay up for long. Now I'm noticing signs that someone is keeping it bushhogged and have removed the old pillars and steps that showed where a house once stood.

I fear that some day soon I will go to shoot the pond and there will be signs of new construction and, perhaps, barriers to access.

That will be a sad day for me.

winter sunrise ... with my Belgium escort ...

The trails are green again and the temps are comfortable, but makes sure you don't forget the skeeter repellent!!!

Just hanging around, folks... :) Have a good one!

What this photo doesn't show is all the danged 'skeeters' flying around and in and out of my ears... ;)

Seen in Antisana National Park, near Pintag, Ecuador on February 4th, 2026.

Guided by Juan Carlos Figueroa of The Partnership for International Birding.

I've been shooting at this usually swampy area a lot, because it's a rare opportunity to get closer to the cypress trees that grow here. What is usually 6" to a foot of water is literally dry enough to walk on.

Even the mighty Mississippi River is at record-setting low water levels, because of the long lasting drought. My Flickr friends up north may have some supply issues this Winter, because of this.
