I'm not sure if the bonfires on the levee have ever been cancelled before, but, you know...it's 2020.
Merry Christmas to you and please stay safe!
A black and white shot of northern gannets engaged in a dramatic, vocal interaction on the crowded cliff edges of Bempton Cliffs. Captured entirely in-camera, this image relies on patient field craft to freeze the intense expressions and sharp, graphic lines of these magnificent seabirds against the shimmering sea below. No digital manipulation or AI; just pure, raw nature as it happened.
There's a place off of I-55 in Louisiana that used to be a town called Ruddock. What's left (very little) is now a ghost town. In 1915 it was completely erased by a hurricane known only as the 1915 New Orleans Hurricane.
Looking through older photos for a throw-back Thursday shot, I ran across some that I took one day in 2014. I had taken the Ruddock exit out of curiosity and had no idea what it's history was. This is one of the shots I took that day...I might post some more.
btw...that's the western edge of Lake Pontchartrain on the right side of the photo.
A Sago Palm used as an art subject. The frond fingers resemble fingers of a piano player, playing nature's song.
I noticed a couple of days ago that they had started rolling up the hay, so I made it a point to be there early this morning.
TGIF, ya'll !!!
It was a wet day for shooting, but ended for us with a slight dash of color.
Lake Martin, Louisiana...2012
Becky hates the ornamental grass that I planted a few years ago, but I look forward to seeing the seedheads at this time of year...so there...

When walking in the woods, I find that it's often the smallest of things that catch your eye, like the backlit leaves that are made to stand out from a stray beam of light.
Two takes from the same pov. One was with the lens a bit foggy and processed to emphasize that. The other going in the direction of extreme saturation and contrast.
note: if you want a good laugh, try watching a 74 year old man get on his belly for a shot and then try to get up...
Found in the garden, no less, and with prey... ;)
What would summer be without an Orb Weaver sighting or two, or 3, or 50?
After a long walk along the RR tracks, and before we reach the river, let's take off onto one of the several trails that lead off into the woods.
Enjoy your weekend, folks!
Taken quickly on the side of the road from inside my truck. I wish it had come out sharper, but I still liked the shot.
The solar cycle gave rise to a host of linked conceptions, the most striking of which surround the key moment of sunrise. In his travels through the night the god is accompanied in his bark by a group of deities, of whom the most frequently present are personifications of aspects of his being with names like “Magical Power” and “Percipience”; at one point in its journey the bark is towed by a team of jackals. Both the personnel and the furniture of the bark vary in different mixed pictorial-textual compositions about the underworld. When the sun god emerges from the night, the whole of creation rejoices, and he may be greeted by gods and goddesses, the king, personifications of categories of humanity, and baboons called the “eastern souls” that screech acclamation. As in temples, normal humanity is excluded from the scene. All these elements seem almost to be responses to such questions as: “What are the changing aspects of the sun god’s being in the night?” or “How is his appearance at dawn heralded?” The answers are more tableaux than myths.
