While at 'the spot' (see album), I noticed the Camellia bushes were still putting on a display and were covered with bees. I took several shots and tried to give this one a vintage look of film by adding some grain and adjusting the light balance a bit in LR.

It's looking mighty green around here!! Spring starts pretty early in Louisiana, but February?! Unfortunately, it will fool all the plants (especially the Azaleas) into blooming early, and then killing all the blooms with a late freeze around Easter... :(
Actually not Elephant Ears at all, but Taro plants, which love it along the swampy shore of Lake Verret!
Well, after doing some research, I don't think these are Elephant Ears at all, but a close cousin, called Taro. Don't confuse the two, as one (Elephant Ear) is poisonous and the other is completely edible. Check out the link below...

Something a little different this morning. A black and white photo taken with my beloved Nikon F3/t and using Ilford Delta 100 film. (developed at home) It’s a look that's hard to replicate with digital, although I'm sure it could be. Yes, it’s blurry and not sharp. This is about nostalgia. I scanned the developed photo to show on Flickr.
If you had a close friend or relative whom you have not heard from a long time, and who wore a silver signet ring on one finger, I may have some important information about him…

Last weekend I was in an art show in Baton Rouge (sold 2 fotos...yea!).
After the show, we were eating burders around the corner, and this group of about 50 cyclists rode by with their bikes all lit up. I quickly grabbed the camera and snapped this shot through the window. Serendipity.
STICKIN' THE LANDING IN LUXOR
As our balloon began descending from its ethereal flight, our pilot, who may or may not have been licensed to fly the balloon (he insisted to the passengers that he was - maybe a few too many times), prepared us in very good English and in Arabic (presumably very good Arabic) for the landing. He instructed us that as we approached the ground, we were to turn around in the basket and face opposite the direction of the balloon's travel. Then, on his cue, we were to crouch down, grab the basket edge in front of us, and brace ourselves. As I would discover from direct experience, here's what happens when a 24-passenger hot air balloon basket, traveling at a good forward speed, hits the ground in the rocky desert west of Luxor, Egypt: The basket contacts the ground and tilts to a 45-degree angle as it's dragged along by the still-traveling balloon. Peeking over the edge of the precariously tilted wicker basket you're desperately gripping, you see several dudes jump off the moving flatbed truck that's been chasing you, sprint to your basket, and leap onto the back of it as they catch it, their weight slowing the basket's speed and, eventually, bringing it to rest in an upright position. Once the basket skids to a stop, you impulsively shout out one of the very few Arabic phrases you've learned: Allāhu akbar! You're thrilled when half of the balloon's passengers and the pilot all shout in response, Allāhu akbar! High-fives and back-slapping ensue.
Ours was a great landing compared to other landings I saw or heard of - to wit: (1) After we were on the ground and out of our basket, I saw other balloons drift down from the sky and land softly, their baskets barely tilting or dragging on the rocky earth. The people in those balloons didn't have nearly as much fun with their landing as we did with ours. (2) By contrast, I saw one other balloon comin' in hot, balloon wranglers clinging to its basket trying strenuously to right it but ultimately failing, the basket scraping along the ground for some distance, aaaaaaannnnd... finally tipping the full 90 degrees, landing on its front side, and dumping humans on top of humans. The humans were screaming, but it sounded like fun, excited screaming. Nobody was visibly injured. (3) Not long before traveling to Egypt, I mentioned to my friend Mike that I'd signed up for a hot air balloon ride at Luxor. Mike informed me that a friend of his had once taken a hot air balloon ride at Luxor. He said the friend's balloon drifted off course and landed atop some palm trees in a farmer's field. He said the farmer ran to the site and harangued the pilot, and maybe the passengers, too, quite fiercely from the ground. He said the farmer had some kind of machete and was pointing and waving it at everyone. The harangue and machete-waving intensified as the minutes went by and the people remained lodged in the tree. Mike couldn't remember how the situation was resolved but it was implied that everything turned out OK.
Sorry folks, but I just keep coming and going...when I can get online, I spend all my time reading, and the more I read, the more confused I get!!! If I could afford it, I'd go buy a Mac tomorrow!
