According to www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/moon/strawberry.html "The wild strawberries that start to ripen during early summer gave name to the Full Moon in June."

Here in Australia, there was the start of a penumbral eclipse as the moon was setting.

Spinning and flinging

Tossing and burning

Lost in the moment

And feeling that heat.

As day turns to night

That fire still burns bright.

The amazing trees that give Joshua Tree NP its name. Only found in the Mojave desert of CA these trees are a remarkable testimony to the fortitude of nature.

Some places you keep coming back to. For me that is Rockanje beach. After a turbulent day the evening ended perfect!

What is so special about these beach boulders?

Briefly:

These boulders are actually concretions that have been exposed through shoreline erosion from coastal cliffs. Even today, there are still boulders remaining in the mudstone that will, eventually, fall on to the beach as they come lose due to erosion!

They originally started forming in ancient sea floor sediments around 60 million years ago, and the largest boulders are estimated to have taken about 4 million years to get to their current size. (from www.moerakiboulders.com/)

A juvenile Common Gallinule is easily identified by its overall pale brown or dusky coloration, lacking the adult's striking red facial shield and bright yellow legs. These young birds also have paler underparts and a dull greenish or greenish-yellow bill, and a distinctive white stripe on their flanks. They gradually develop their adult plumage as they approach their first spring breeding season.

Eanam Wharf, located in Blackburn, was a significant industrial area connected to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It served as a crucial point for transporting goods, particularly coal and raw cotton, following the canal's opening in 1810. The wharf also included a convict cellar and played a role in the growth of local industries like breweries, due to its access to spring water. While some structures, like Thwaites Brewery's stables, remain as reminders of its past, the wharf continues to be used for recreational activities like canoeing and hosts the Blackburn Canal Festival.

The googly-eyes bandit struck yet again. This time, its target had nothing to say.

Sights around the beautiful location of Homer, Alaska. Sitting at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula this spit of land enjoys views of mountains meeting the bay, abundant sea life, and soaring eagles above.

This is one of my favourites places to walk in Oakville. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadows come out to play.

More beachcombing... a clump of washed up giant kelp deflects an incoming wave on Dennison Beach north of Bicheno, Tasmania.

Our unique giant kelp forests are in decline. You guessed it - warming oceans and an invasion/increase in predator numbers - long spined sea urchins (Centrostephanus rodgersii) - combined with a decrease in their predators - the southern rock lobster (Jasus edwardsii) have been significant factors.

While efforts to restock the east coast with smaller crays from the island's south coast and small scale commercial harvesting of the urchins is in progress, the barren reefs left behind by the urchins are not a suitable habitat for either kelp, lobsters, shellfish, scale fish or anything else :\

Technically the tide was on the ebb but while I was framing up an altogether different image, I was photobombed by a bit bigger one :-)

Momosuke Bridge - also known as the “Bridge of Peaches”. The bridge, completed in September 1922, crosses the widest part of the Kiso river and is 247 m in length and 2.7 m wide. As one of the longest wood-stiffened, wooden-decked suspension bridges in Japan it shares overhead suspension bridge design elements with suspension bridges of a simiar period found in the US and Europe.

The bridge was built to serve the development of hydro-electric infrastructure along the Kiso River by engineering entrepenur of the Meiji Period; Momosuke Fukuzawa in whose honour the bridge is named.

A pity the sky was perfectly clear with zero colour after sunset but I thought the light off the decking would make a lovely line to the sky and the mountains. Mono being the only choice :-)

A couple of lonely Pandani (Richea pandanifolia) along the Overland Track on the exposed, western side of Cradle Mountain. Tasmania.

The mountain itself was right there but just being its recalcitrant self and hiding in the mist behind the Pencil Pines (Athrotaxis cupressoides). Both Pandani and Pines are endemic to Tasmania and thought to be Gondwanan in origin. Pencil Pines are fire intolerant - more on that later in the series.

This pic taken after the blizzard had eased across the plateau. Not many pics taken that particular morning.

An older shot from a club photo-walk near Minions on Bodmin Moor... one of those nights where you could quite easily got lost if you didn't know where you were going!

I loved the way the wire fence skirted around the lone tree, providing nice lead-in lines, processed using the Nik Collection to convert to Black & White and also add some softness.

Life's a beach for this surfer. After hours of catching waves on the east side of the pier, he decides to cross over to the other side. While crossing under the pier, he has a few quick words with his girlfriend laying in a hammock strung between posts and reading a book. He takes a few swigs from a water bottle, steals a quick kiss from his girl and sprints back to the crashing surf to ride the fleeting waves and setting rays of the sun.
