The tree of beauty that stood tall and had a beautiful back-lit glow from the blown out sun, i loved this moment of contrast and clarity, shot along the leeds to Liverpool canal on the Canon750D

Late afternoon and the usual suspects are hanging out at the Fish Landing berth in Mevagissey, Cornwall.

I just liked the light basically :-)

After the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc and the reunification of Germany, the building at Checkpoint Charlie became a tourist attraction.

A picturesque, wooded valley that flows into the River Wharfe. It was named after a severe storm in 1826 that uprooted trees and caused significant damage.Posforth Gill Waterfall: A waterfall located within the valley, which can be shallow and a bit tricky to find.

Looking north east from Lækjarvík on Route One into a raging storm over Álftafjördur and the long sandspit of Starmyrarfjörur. North of Höfn, South East Iceland.

Another from the 2015 archives. The archive digging over the last few weeks has really illustrated the importance to me of a number of things. 1) Getting exposure basically correct really helps. 2) Camera sophistication doesn't really matter that much so long as the shot is good (see 1). 3) Be patient with yourself when learning - if the shot speaks, don't give up.

Probably best viewed on a big screen...

Built to make a big impression, Little Moreton Hall was constructed during the Tudor period, with the earliest part of the house begun in around 1504 to 1508 and the latest addition being completed in 1610.

The Moreton family were wealthy landowners in the area and built the house as a symbol of their prosperity.

A wider view of Hafursfell (697m) from the eastern side, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland.

The true nature of the glaciated formation is evident here with the glacial arête of Þrihnúkar at the left rear with the jagged summit of Hafursfell itself to the right looming over the Þverdalur cirque in front of it.

Route 54 or Snæfellsnesvegur can be seen snaking westward past Samkomuh and Dalsmynni farms at the foot of the mountain. The Núpá River runs through a fold of land behind these two farms. I'm not able to find a name for the peak in sunlight.

I posted a tighter shot of the peak a while ago but I think this wider view is the new fave :-)

Maria Island is separated from Tasmania by Mercury Passage. This blue hour frame of the passage from Rebhan Road, Orford.

Took this while setting up for the rising Milky Way - first magnitude stars are out along with Jupiter rising low above the Island. The MW core itself is on the horizon just to the right of the planet.

Two other things of interest - there is an islet to the north of Maria - Isle du Nord, the beacon upon which rock is responsible for the tiny light at the northern (left) end of the island.

The other thing is the smudge of smoke above the trees and out to sea. There were a couple of controlled burns inland and the smoke was slowly drifting out over the ocean. Had an impact on later images...

This image has been captured at the State Rose Garden, Newtown Park, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.

I have been to Toowoomba many many times to see the beautuful Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and also the Japanese Gardens, but I did not know that this rose garden existed until recently. It is a must see in Toowoomba and I was told by the workers there, that the best time for the flowering roses is in October.

Many thanks to all my Flickr photostream followers I have now more than 1.7 million views, thank you. Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it is very much appreciated.

I love scrolling through Flickr looking at everyone's images, getting new ideas.

Moonrise behind a cloud bank along with some additional light polution from Jyväskylä over Lake Vhvanen in Central Finland.

This view is kinda looking southeast over the lake with the Milky Way just out of frame to the right. Not being from the northern hemisphere, I'm unsure of the constellations in the frame.

The lily pond was a feature of the beautiful formal gardens created for the Feilden family in the early 1800s when they owned the Witton Estate.

The pond is still present in the park today and is a popular scenic spot for visitors, walkers, and photographers.

The main keep of Matsumoto Castle at night. Matsumoto, Japan.

I could see the castle from the hotel so after a splendid dinner I wandered off to take a few LE frames. After finding a good vantage point and taking a few test shots the lights went out at 22:00 hrs precisely :-(

This is the best of the testers :-)

The castle is also known as Crow Castle (Karasu-jo) due to its black walls and roof lines. Construction began on the site in the 1600s and the castle was acquired by the city in the early 1800s to save it from demolition. The castle has had several refits and renovations over the years since and was declared a national treasure in 1952.

Ready for takeoff to somewhere warm and sunny. The flower suitcase is from the 1960's and the woven bag is from Acapulco 1950"s vintage. The bag read Acapulco, but the thread is missing in some spots.

The Crown Mine Engine Houses at Botallack Mines - UNESCO World Heritage Site Western Cornwall.

The engine houses are on the bucket list for many photogs and I'm pleased to have had the privilege to shoot there.

I have to say that my bright-red umbrella has to be one of my favourite props for adding a dash of colour on a dull day!

This shot was taken at the end of Banjo Pier in Looe.

I'm going to be on vacation for the next couple of weeks and won't be posting anything for a while.

I posted a black and white version of this pic of Brekkufjall (409m) a little while ago.

I think I prefer this slightly tighter crop of the formation in splendid late-afternoon light.

The little spire at the right is Hjarta with a little patch of permanent snow just opposite.

As in the previous post, the mountain had been clagged over all day with the sun finally getting below the cloud ceiling late in the afternoon and lighting up the terrain. The light is still fairly flat in this pic however.

Another demonstration of the advantage of having two camera body + lens combinations on the go.

Nestled in the hills of Beverly Hills, Franklin Canyon is one of my favorite spots for early morning bike rides. Unlike most years, this winter has been particularly wet, which resulted in lush greens and a wide variety of colors.

Thank you very much for your kind comments and faves.

Always on the lookout for a spiral staircase! This one is behind the scenes at St. Paul's Cathedral. It was easy to get a tour with so few tourists around. Harry Potter fans may recognize it.

Taken with 9 images, bracketed in 1 stop increments. Layered in Photomatix Pro 5, added graduated filter in NIK Collection, final edit in Lightroom CC. As I edit my photos to share with all; my neighbors are stomping pass my room to harass me. The same one’s year after year, day after day, because it’s allowed in Yosemite National Park and no one is held accountable.

I’m trying to make this a better park for all those that visit, work and live here. What are my neighbors and coworkers doing?

Not the sharpest of frames but it was another lens tester with a Contax G 90/2.8 Sonnar. Seems like a very handy astro lens if the tracker is dialled in properly and maybe the lens stopped down a little.

Two frame blend but both at 25 secs - one for the lower section then the tracker engaged for the heavens.

Interesting lens flare cast by the planet - not sure why that is. Small light at the left is a navigation marker.

After my self imposed summer hiatus I decided it was time for me to haul my sorry bag of bones out of bed before sunrise now that it's not quite so early. I decided to start with a nice and close location to ease myself in so I popped down to the bridges over the Tamar as they are only ten minutes away from home and was treated to a glorious sunrise!
