The Henty Dunes are a very large dune field on the northern end of Ocean Beach on Tasmania's west coast. The dunes are fed with sand mainly from Macquarie Harbour to the south and the Henty Rivers that flow in from the north. The constant west sou-west of the Roaring Forties off the Southern Ocean (in the distance) have generated a significant dune-scape here since the end of the Pleistocene Ice Age.
These ancient dunes are so well established that small rainforest habitats have appeared on them. Towards the northern end of the dunes, the preserved footprints or ichnofossils of Australian mega-fauna can be found in some secret between-dune depressions while the footprints of contemporary birds and wildlife surround active soaks. The fading, parallel tracks of a wallaby can be made out above the foreground sand ripples.

Dynjandi Waterfall at the head of Arnarfjörður.
Dynjandifoss AKA Fjallfoss is around 100m high. It's approximately 30m wide at the top and around 60m at the bottom and cascades in a series of terraces. It's very pretty. There are a series of smaller waterfalls below it (see my previous post) with Hæstajallafoss pictured here in the center of the shot.
It was raining pretty heavily at the time with a big shower blotting out the upper/middle part of the frame. However, the cloud actually helped flatten the light out which was good.
I'm not much for humans in the landscape but made an exception here where another traveller adds a sense of scale to the scene. I kinda wish I'd shot it a bit tighter from this spot with the XF23 (35mm) but there you go... maybe next time :-)

Scottsbluff was a happy detour for us on our first trip out west in 2016. The expansive national monument celebrates the pioneers of the past who followed the Oregon Trail through this area using the rock formations as their guides. To this day, you can still see the wagon ruts left behind by the thousands who searched for a better life in the West.

As I will soon be without a studio, I felt That I should do some work in it!
Comme je n'aurais bientôt plus de studio, j'ai senti le besoin d'y travailler ce matin!

A late rising moon lights up the convict built barn on Maria Island. The moonlight and the stars of the Milky Way are under threat from a rapidly approaching dawn.
This frame from back in October 2014 when at this time of the day/year, the MW Core is below the horizon behind the barn. There is no pole star in the Southern Hemisphere, the South Celestial Pole is about 1/3rd down from the top and 1/3rd in from the right hand edge of the frame.
Maria Island is one of Tasmania's splendid National Parks and has at various times been a penal colony, cement factory and farm. Traces of that history are scattered all around the Island.
Highest point on the island is Mount Maria (711m) in the centre of the frame.

Playing with the macro lens again. This time on the water drops that collected on the decorative grass after a rain.
Whernside is a mountain in the Yorkshire Dales in Northern England. It is the highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the other two being Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent.
Ingleborough is in the distant.
Joshua Tree NP...I was surprised by the rocks...large boulders tumbled upon one another for as far as the eye could see. Amazing landscape!

One more from the Tasman Bridge series. The sun has just about set behind the shoulder of kunyani/Mt Wellington and its last rays throw long shadows over the land.

Sylvan Lake is called the crown jewel of Custer State Park in SD. Located along the Needles Hwy, it is a lovely place to picnic, hike, and of course, take a picture or two!

Testing out Adobe LightRoom 6 - first attempts at using HDR merge all failed.... Tried using the panorama merge and hey presto works very well. So merged 4 x 24Mb files then processed in Colour EFEX Pro 4 to enhance clouds and mountains.
A number of complex low pressure systems are rotating around the island at the moment. The unstable air masses have been triggering short heavy showers and this is one of those.

This pic is from the Ricoh GRiii, used as a light meter for the Fuji 6x9. There won't be a picture from that camera of this scene - the heavens opened and I had to scramble for the car before I'd had a chance to set up.

On top of Win Hill lies Win Hill Pike, locally known as the Pimple. Win Hill Pike has an Ordnance Survey triangulation point, or trig point. Sometimes misnamed the Old Witches Knoll.
To the right is the village of Castleton.

Looking north from Bicheno toward a distant burn-off on the southwestern flanks of Mt Elephant (748m)
McLean Bay lies in front of the camera with Seymour Point (aka Long Pt.) marking the northern end. Paddys Head over the top of the point. The tip of land at the very edge of the view is Wardlaws Point which has an infrequent left hand break known locally as Harry Flobknob's... :-)

Taken somewhere along the road that links Monforte d'Alba to Barolo (Langhe). This is the area where some of Italian finest wines are made.

"Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away." Marcus Aurelius
The Wenatchee River hastens along Washington's Hwy 2 on a dreary Fall day.
A fine example of an 18th century ice house. The thatched roof was partly a decorative touch to make the building blend in with its surroundings but it also fulfilled a practical function of keeping it cool. More than two thirds of the building is below ground. The depth of the Ice House is 24 feet (7.3 metres)which is a surprising drop. The Ice House worked rather like a thermos flask. The walls are double-skinned, and ice would have been taken from a nearby pond in winter and packed into the chamber, which was lined with straw for extra insulation. Throughout the summer the ice from the Ice House would have been used to preserve food and cool drinks as well as to create ice creams and sorbets.*

South Queensferry, Scotland
After the dismal bank holiday weather, Tuesday turned out to be rather better. The tide was on the turn but plenty of time to grab a few shots along the shoreline. It was a nice afternoon stroll along the promenade and cobbled streets of South Queensferry but not the best conditions for photography with the sun high in the sky, hence this B&W conversion via Nik software to bring out some definition and contrast.
