Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is a well-known circular trail beginning and ending in the village of Ingleton in the English county of North Yorkshire, now maintained by the Ingleton Scenery Company. It is claimed that the trail, some 8 kilometres (5 mi) long, and with a vertical rise of 169 m (554 feet) has some of the most spectacular waterfall and woodland scenery in the north of England.

I love art museums, and not only for the art housed within. Art museums often have some of the most amazing interior architectures, offering striking graphical lines and shapes. That's the case with this iconic staircase in the National Museum of Art in Washington DC.

The Smithsonian museums are definitely some of the greatest museums in the world, ranging across a wide range of subjects and topics. Each is an excellent place to go and get lost for an afternoon, especially during the hot and muggy summer months in DC.

The rustic boathouse on Crater Lake, Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park. Crater Peak in the background.

From the frame to the roof shingles, the boathouse is constructed solely of local, split King Billy Pine (Athrotaxis selaginoides). The structure has seen some recent repairs.

King Billy is a fabulous boatbuilding timber but now impossible to get. It is straight, light, strong and rot resistant. The timber is singularly aromatic and a lovely salmon colour when worked and turns a gorgeous silver when weathered.

King Billy was harvested heavily in our colonial past and many fine yachts, dinghies, doors and window frames have been made from it. The species is also incredibly slow growing and not at all fire adapted. We have lost significant stands to fires in recent years.

Joshua Tree NP...I was surprised by the rocks...large boulders tumbled upon one another for as far as the eye could see. Amazing landscape!

Mam Tor is a 517 m hill near Castleton in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England. Its name means "mother hill", so called because frequent landslips on its eastern face have resulted in a multitude of "mini-hills" beneath it.

Hafnarfjall (841m) from Hotel Hafnarfjall, Borgarnes. There was some pretty spectacular light this particular evening as the sun slipped below the cloud ceiling we'd been under all day.

The mountain is on the other side of Route 1 from the hotel and there are some cars and poles alongside on the highway through the lower third of the frame.

I believe the peak at the left is Klaustertunguhóll (719m).

Finding a story in the chaos. Every time I look at this image my eye picks out another detail that I didn't notice before. It may not be my usual style of composition, but it keeps me entertained.

From today's dog walk. Still loving the DxO Nik Collection, especially Silver Efex Pro 2.

Another oldie from December 2005. Used DxORaw2, Colour Efex5 and then exported directly from Photolab5 into my photostream.

A much anticipated return to Coldwater Cove was overshadowed by dreary conditions the morning we made our stop.

I was working hard to keep my disappointment in check and I decided to switch to B&W for one shot, then continued with the B&W theme later in post, capturing what was for me, the mood of the time.

This was taken on one of our club photowalks recently, at 6pm there was an almighty storm with lightning, thunder, lashing rain and high winds and I was sat at home thinking "do I really want to go out in this?"... the weather forecast stated it was going to clear up so I headed out anyway and we found that no only did the storm pass but it left us with the most calm and gentle evening. At least this meant I had my favourite red umbrella to play with on the beach!

Using a tracker seems to make the ''front palate' blue recede and allows much deeper tones to come through. Things go a bit weird if I play with the WB so leaving it alone for now.

The flowers on the tree in my backyard have started to bloom. :)

Retrofuturism; a futuristic vision of what might be influenced by an earlier era.

I created a simple composite of some condominiums and an airship to produce this retro depiction of the future. Just imagine what it would be like if airships had become a popular way of transportation.

What do you think?

Unusual rock formations at low tide - Denison Beach, Bicheno Tasmania. Have been back to this location twice since this image was taken but the rocks have been hidden under the sand.

Also, something I hadn't noticed before is how badly smeared the edges are with the combination of Nikon glass on Sony body. Clearly something in the adaption of an otherwise amazingly sharp lens on its native mount. However, I don't think it detracts too badly from all the action in the centre.

Archive frame - was looking for something else ;-)

In fact, I captured this one in daylight, but unfortunately it has camera shake... Nevertheless, I like the dark mood. :))

(Btw, that leaf reminds me of a cobra-head...) :)

The noisy friarbird is a passerine bird of the honeyeater family Meliphagidae native to southern New Guinea and eastern Australia. It is one of several species known as friarbirds whose heads are bare of feathers. It is brown-grey in colour, with a prominent knob on its bare black-skinned head. Wikipedia

Scientific name: Philemon corniculatus.

This image is taken in our backyard, since I am confined to our home at this time.

Many thanks to all my Flickr photostream followers I have now more than one million views, thank you. Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it is very much appreciated.

COVID-19 (CORONA VIRUS)

TO EVERYONE OUT THERE, PLEASE TAKE CARE AND BE SAFE.

With the COVID-19 (coronavirus) now rampant here and in most countries I am spending all my time at home and fortunately have plenty of birds coming to visit due to our bird friendly and flower garden.

The Henty Dunes are a very large dune field on the northern end of Ocean Beach on Tasmania's west coast. The dunes are fed with sand mainly from Macquarie Harbour to the south and the Henty Rivers that flow in from the north. The constant west sou-west of the Roaring Forties off the Southern Ocean (in the distance) have generated a significant dune-scape here since the end of the Pleistocene Ice Age.

These ancient dunes are so well established that small rainforest habitats have appeared on them. Towards the northern end of the dunes, the preserved footprints or ichnofossils of Australian mega-fauna can be found in some secret between-dune depressions while the footprints of contemporary birds and wildlife surround active soaks. The fading, parallel tracks of a wallaby can be made out above the foreground sand ripples.

Dynjandi Waterfall at the head of Arnarfjörður.

Dynjandifoss AKA Fjallfoss is around 100m high. It's approximately 30m wide at the top and around 60m at the bottom and cascades in a series of terraces. It's very pretty. There are a series of smaller waterfalls below it (see my previous post) with Hæstajallafoss pictured here in the center of the shot.

It was raining pretty heavily at the time with a big shower blotting out the upper/middle part of the frame. However, the cloud actually helped flatten the light out which was good.

I'm not much for humans in the landscape but made an exception here where another traveller adds a sense of scale to the scene. I kinda wish I'd shot it a bit tighter from this spot with the XF23 (35mm) but there you go... maybe next time :-)

Scottsbluff was a happy detour for us on our first trip out west in 2016. The expansive national monument celebrates the pioneers of the past who followed the Oregon Trail through this area using the rock formations as their guides. To this day, you can still see the wagon ruts left behind by the thousands who searched for a better life in the West.
