The burning Bifröst rainbow bridge between Midgard and Asgard hangs open over Kírkjufell, Snaefellsnes Peninsular, Iceland.

Archive pic of a spectacular Aurora Borealis event, from 28 September 2017 getting a dust off. A bit happier with my editing some years on but still having a few noise issues.

Kírkjufell is partially lit up by the sodium vapor lamps of Grundarfjörður town to the right, behind the camera - hence the grungy green/brown colour of the mountain. A half moon was hanging in there too somewhere to the west along with quite a deal of thin cloud resulting in reduced contrast in some of the beams.

The faint white spot at extreme left is near the carpark for the famous Kírkjufoss waterfall. Apparently there was a total scrum over there at the time with lots of rude photographers being not at all collegial.

I knew it would be a shambles at the waterfall so gave it a miss and shot this from an empty carpark just outside town. At one point the display was so intense I just stopped taking pictures and lay on the grass looking up (and feeling incredibly small :-)

A very hard contre jour frame from Cape Tourville looking northward to Cape Lodi and Paddy's Head on Tasmania's east coast.

Have posted a couple of others from here before but decided to embrace the smoke in the air present on the day.

Cape Tourville is within the Freycinet National Park and was named in honour of the impressively titled, Admiral Ann Hilarion de Contentin, Comte de Tourville (1642-1701) in 1802 by French explorer, navigator, hydrographer and cartographer, Captain Nicholas Baudin.

Wandering through the Japan archive to find this colour version of Mt Ena or Ena-san (2191m) from Magome Post Town on the Nakasendo Way. Have previously posted mainly monos of this remarkable view.

Ena-san is but one mountain peak of the Kiso Mountain Range in the Chubu region of Japan and is located on the border between Nakatsugawa, in Gifu Prefecture and Achi, in Nagano Prefecture.

Ena-san is on the top 100 list of Japanese mountains and is part of the very scenic Japanese Alps in central Honshu.

When we visited Alaska 2 summers ago one of the most memorable days was spent on Prince William Sound out of Valdez. The teal blues of the water, turquoise ice formations, blue gray mountains and clouds...in one word, stunning!

The River Hodder flows past Chaigley, a village in Lancashire, England, and a popular area for fishing and walking. A one-mile stretch of the river near Chaigley is notable for fishing, and the area is crossed by scenic walking routes that may include the historic Lower Hodder Bridge.

My series of images from Rosslyn Chapel concludes with something perhaps counter intuitive given my fascination with with the colours of the sandstone ... a set of B&W images from infrared captures.

Burnmoor Tarn, on Eskdale Fell in Cumbria, England, is the largest entirely natural tarns in the Lake District. Its waters flow into Whillan Beck at the tarn's north-eastern corner, which immediately turns south and flows into Eskdale, joining the Esk at Beckfoot.

A large, dolerite, glacial erratic resting in the bed of the Narcissus River, Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park.

The Narcissus today follows the same course of its once mighty glacial antecedent and empties into Lake St Clair.

Wasdale is a valley and civil parish in the western part of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. The River Irt flows through the valley to its estuary at Ravenglass. A large part of the main valley floor is occupied by Wastwater, the deepest lake in England.

Tried to go for a nice long walk today. That was short lived. We started out walking in light flurries, which quickly turned to freezing rain. We got half way to the park, turned around and slid home!

I took this photo here www.flickr.com/photos/33774669@N00/49050519127/in/datepos... and fooled around with it in Photoshop and the Nik Collection plugin.

When the weather is as miserable as it is here today ... along with all the rest of the stay at home nonsense ... it's nice to have something to distract one's mind. So, hence the Synapses Firing title.

Digging around in the archives again looking for some inspiration in the frames that were passed over back in the day. The main reason being they were simply beyond my skill to edit for one aspect or another... :|

Here we have the Aldeyjarfoss waterfall on the Skjálfandafljót River, Northeast Iceland. The falls can be reached just off the F26 (F842) 30k south of Goðafoss or on the less popular side (this shot) via a 30 min walk off the F843.

Hard to make out but there are four or five togs on the other side on and below that flat ledge on the right. Part of a photo tour that arrived as we were shooting.

Orchids in my kitchen nook bay window / Des orchidées dans la baie vitrée de mon coin cuisine (Edited with Dxo Lab 8 & Nik 8 Analog Efex)

This is a photo of downtown Saint Petersburg, Florida at dusk.

A bit of a conceptual piece, playing with time as a narrative. If you look at my previously published image alongside this one, you can see the galactic core of the Milky Way fairly clearly here. All told, this is an hourlong section of time under the spinning night skies.

Spurred on by an image I found on the phone - I went rootling through the NAS for this pic. I posted a mono of a similar scene ages ago but never worked a colour version.

So here it is!

The Crown Mine Engine Houses at Botallack Mines - UNESCO World Heritage Site, Western Cornwall.

The engine houses at The Crown Mine once sheltered steam driven pumps for the submarine tin/copper/arsenic mine that extended from this point out under the sea.

The engine houses are on the bucket list for many photogs. I was very pleased to have had the privilege to shoot there on a grey, flat overcast and misty day that really suited the place.

We get later in the year, I find myself going back over the photos I've shot, and sometimes I find a few I've missed. This is one of those, shot on picturesque South Boundary Avenue here in my town.
