This image focuses on the relationship between moving water and ancient stone. The waterfall provides the central motion, while the surrounding cliff face, scattered rocks, reflective pool, and woodland canopy create a richly layered natural composition. Strong light across the shallow water adds warmth and contrast, balancing the darker tones of the gorge and emphasizing the sculptural quality of the landscape.

This is the first official photo of King Autumnus "Pepo" Cucurbita. It has always been the tradition that the first official image of the new king or queen of autumn is a painting but "Pepo" I. wants to be a modern king so he asked for a photograph, and who am I to refuse a king's request? For the photo, Pepo I. proudly wore his super comfortable, velvety-soft coronation mantle that was exclusively designed for him by Kale Lagerfeld.
Since Pepo is such a modern ornamental gourd, pardon, king, he also spends much of his free time searching the internet. Most recently, he developed a keen interest in body enhancements. As a first step, he requested a second eye. Born a cyclops (he's always been fine with it and it has never impaired him whatsoever), he for once wanted to have the "stereo view" experience "just like everybody else." So I made him a second eye from modeling clay, not expecting much of a "stereo view" experience for Pepo but he's delighted about it and keeps assuring me that he "sees like I have never seen before. By the way, Silke, when was the last time you dusted that corner, if I may ask?"
Originally, I wanted to use a tiny chestnut that I had picked up in front of my house (it's a tradition to pick one up and keep it as a good luck charm) but then I saw these small ornamental gourds at the supermarket the other day and took a closer look. One of the colourful little gourds had a tiny head with one "eye" and a huge pug nose and I kind of fell in love with it. Since there also was the first kale at the Whole Foods Market, an idea formed and I decided to stick to it and try to make it work: the birth and coronation of King Pepo I.
So the autumn traditions here are quite obvious: collecting leaves, and cooking with pumpkin and kale (the latter I didn't like too much as a child because back then it was the fashion to almost cook it to oblivion). Even the modeling clay eye represents a typical at-home autumn activity: crafting.
In-camera focus stacking yielded the best results, and combining the 15 ORF files in Helicon Focus yielded a better result than the in-camera stacked final JPG which had some artifacts. Illumination: natural light from above, yellowish light from the right, and indirect, reflected light from the left.
Size info: The width of the frame is a little less than 7 cm/2, 75 inches. I went as close as possible and measured the scene before taking the photo to make sure it didn't exceed our size limit. And you've seen the tiny crown before, it is 2 cm/0,78 inches "tall".
HMM, Everyone! (I will catch up with you a little later.)

A hidden woodland cascade flowing over an old weir, surrounded by mossy rocks, wet leaves and dense forest. I liked the contrast between the clean horizontal line of the falling water and the wild, layered textures of the trees and stream below. The scene felt quiet and enclosed, almost like a small secret place in the woods.

When I begun to process this exposure bracketing, I thought that I knew what I wanted to attain. I was perfectly wrong. Indeed, these RAW files kept a few secret bits of beauty which I was not aware of when I selected them for processing – and they changed the course of the journey I had foreordained.
I was in a gloomy mood, for both personal and general concerns, and the RAWs looked rather duller than the average – taken: they appeared to accurately mirror the state of my soul. At worst, I would have wasted some hours of pointless procesing work before deciding to look for something better. Nobody would have known. However things were to contradict my expectations. I got some good news (a rarity in those tough days) about the health conditions of my brother and my “adopted brother-in-law” (i.e. my brother’s brother-in-law); on the other hand, Darktable – that wonderful software – gifted me with a few unanticipated treasures. My thoughts were growing more and more positive and the processing of this bracketing were proceeding accordingly: a hidden beauty was unfolding before me, my own persisting unawareness of it notwithstanding. At last I found myself with a picture that had apparently self-processed itself*, while I was busy exploring uncharted thoughts that kept emerging along the way
* Admittedly a bizarre phenomenon, which Maurits Cornelius Escher would have loved – think of his Drawing hands.
I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.
This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning. On top of the hill in the distance, beyond the river, lays the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon.
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwithstanding, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.
RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).

Barockgarten Blankenburg/Harz GER
Blankenburg (Harz) is a town and health resort in the district of Harz, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, at the north foot of the Harz Mountains, 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Halberstadt.
It has been in large part rebuilt since a fire in 1836, and possesses a castle, with various collections, a museum of antiquities, an old town hall and churches. Gardening is a speciality. The nearby ridge of rocks called the Teufelsmauer (Devils Wall) offers views across the plain and into the deep gorges of the Harz.

The Vestrahorn in south eastern Iceland but not as it's normally seen on Flickr...
This popped up on my phone from 2017 so I decided to zjooosh it a little and post it. As can be determined, visibility was poor with low cloud and frequent drizzle.
Maybe one day I'll actually get to see the mountain!

This canal-side landscape captures a narrowboat resting quietly along the Leeds Liverpool Canal, surrounded by lush greenery, dry-stone walls, and calm reflective water. The composition uses the curve of the towpath and canal edge to lead the viewer toward the boat, while the mirrored trees create a peaceful visual rhythm across the surface of the water.
The artistic concept celebrates the slower pace of canal life. Bright natural colour, open sky, and gentle reflections evoke a sense of stillness, heritage, and rural escape. The image presents the canal as both a historic route and a tranquil sanctuary, where movement pauses and the landscape becomes part of the journey.

Dok sunce lagano proviruje kroz guste krošnje, jutarnja šetnja sa Srećkom vodi nas uskim putićem prema suhozidu i ostacima bizantske vile pokraj Šila. Tišina, miris borova i pjesma ptica stapaju se u savršen sklad prirode i povijesti. U ovim trenucima, male stvari postaju velike – koraci, dah, pogled prema moru.

7DWF, Sundays: Fauna
This fly was lazing in the late summer sun at the Natur-Park Südgelände where I was looking for rust for MM's "Rust" theme (I found plenty, because this park located on a former railway property is *the* place for rust). The fly wasn't bothered by my camera at all, it was probably taking a nap on the nicely warm rusty metal surface of an old fence.
Have a beautiful Sunday and great week ahead, dear Flickr friends!

This landscape photograph captures the dramatic character of Buttermere in the English Lake District. Viewed from high on the surrounding fells, the scene unfolds through layers of mountains, lakes, and winding waterways beneath an imposing storm front. The image explores the relationship between weather and landscape, using contrast between illuminated greens and dark cloud formations to create a sense of scale, atmosphere, and anticipation. The composition guides the eye through the valley toward the distant waters of Buttermere, emphasizing both the grandeur and tranquility of this iconic location.

Nature has a way of turning a simple riverbed into a canvas of liquid light. This shot captures the intense, glittering reflection of the afternoon sun slicing through the quiet forest valley of Chaigley. The raw textures of the rocky shoreline stand in sharp contrast against the dark, skeletal trees lining the River Hodder.

The Thistle o' Scotland, Scottish folk song
7DWF Friday: Flora
Did you know that the thistle is Scotland's National flower? And that it adorns Nancy's city coat of arms? Thistles certainly feel comfortable on Berlin's sandy (mostly, but marshy, too) ground as well.
Taken at the entrance to the Flaschenhalspark ("bottle neck park"), another renaturated former railway area located in the Berlin borough of Tempelhof-Schöneberg. The tangerine spots in the background are bollards / barriers at the park's entrance. It would have been nicer to get the thistle as a whole, but there was quite a lot of bicycle and in-line skater traffic, and not much space to step back (hence the name "bottle neck park").
The Flaschenhalspark is part of the Nord-Süd-Grünzug (north-south green corridor) which provides a "continuous green path system" from the Natur-Park Südgelände (Berlin borough of Schöneberg), the Park am Gleisdreieck (vis-à-vis the Flaschenhalspark, Berlin borough of Kreuzberg), and the Tiergarten in the Berlin borough of Mitte. This "path system is also part of the Berlin-Leipzig long distance cycle track". (Quotes taken from gruen-berlin.de/en/projekt/flaschenhalspark )
Some editing info: I opened the raw file in PS (from LR), lightened it up / increased the clarity in Nik's Viveza (only the thistle), then used the Detail extractor filter in Color Efex (for fore- and background, but with different opacity settings). In LR I increased the saturation and the dynamic range a little.
Thank you very much for your comments and faves, I highly appreciate them ;-)
