Very happy with the results from using Perceptol as the film developer. Was able to get almost no grain and high sharpness on my 35mm SLR. Great for printing large.

... And here it is another shot from my archives (Summer 2016). I had thought to process it so many times, but I was deterred by some blown out highlights in the sky. Not worth the effort. However I have made up my mind at last and, after recovering what was recoverable, I have decided to accept some blown out highlights instead of give up forever.
What I like in this scene is how the two twin, arching series of low waves create a kind of (frozen) dance. They are trying to touch each other and dance together, but a minimal rise of the sand in between prevents them from embracing. Not for long however, since the tide was quietly rising and the sea was taking its little secrets back again in its womb. We can be sure that soon they have been able to reunite.
It was my second sunrise session at Rosolina mare - not really as good as the first one, to be sure (here it is an example): the sky was overcast, the light was hard, and a high-altitude sheet of clouds gave uniform highlights where the sun was. I was a bit tired - more on the morale side than physically, since I had walked some 23 km only to take a mere handful of second-rate photos. As I was returning to the "civilised" part of the beach, at last the sky started turning into something really interesting. Lots of clouds of different shapes and sizes, and piercing sunbeams at leisure. I took some photos, but my discouraged outlook resulted in self-defeating choices - no tripod, no exposure bracketings, no real concentration on framing and exposure. While processing this shot with Darktable I created a "virtual" exposure bracketing from a single RAW, and this helped a lot to get a decent result (including some details gained in the blown-out areas).
I have obtained this picture by blending a "virtual" exposure bracketing [-1.3/0/+1.3 EV] by luminosity masks with the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4. RAW files processed with Darktable. Denoising with Dfine. Smart resize (stretched to 16:9 format) with Chasys Draw IES Artist.
I used the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a final contribution to the processing of the lighter parts. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwith standing, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities.

Le plumage de l’adulte est d’un blanc éblouissant. Une bande étroite de couleur grise encercle les yeux, mais la pointe des ailes est d’un noir de jais. Pendant la saison de nidification, la tête et le cou de l’oiseau prennent une délicate nuance jaune safran. Les yeux sont bleu clair, et le bec est bleu ou gris-bleu.
À l’automne, les jeunes ont le plumage brun rayé et tacheté de blanc. Au fil des saisons, le plumage pâlit; il présente la teinte blanche de l’adulte vers la quatrième ou la cinquième année.
When it comes to landscape composition, you are usually told to put an interesting feature in the foreground and/or have some kind of leading lines to capture the eye of the beholder and drive it to the focus of the scene. But then, sometimes you feel that you simply must overrule those sacred rules... ;-)*
So here it is a new scene to enrich my Rosolina sunrise series: a unique sky bathed in a unique light, endowed with a rich tapestry of clouds of varied kinds and funny shapes... I received a beautiful gift that morning and there is something more to tell about it (for the future, folks...), partially compensating for the fact that I have not been taking photographs for about 5 months. Yes, this is it. I would like to say that this regrettable situation is due to lack of time and opportunities, but there is more than that... Lack of motivation. Perpetual exhaustion. Stagnation. Maybe midlife crisis - which, curiously, I have always believed to be Someone Else's Problem, if it existed at all (please concede me this small tribute to Douglas Adams). However I have somehow processed this exposure bracketing where that incredible sky is the main and only character at the center of the stage, trying as hard as I could to offer you this gift of quintessential beauty.

The goal was to utilize a rectangular, man-made pond as a literal canvas. The structured, linear stonework of the pond’s edge provides a rigid frame that contrasts with the fluid, organic silhouettes of the trees. The high-contrast edit emphasizes the saturation levels found in nature, pushing the boundaries of realism to evoke a dreamlike, immersive atmosphere.

These colorful mountains lie within Denali NP in Alaska. Though Denali did not grace us with her presence the day we visited, these lovely views with the storm clouds looming kind of made up for it... Kind of.

I was exploring the wild dunes during one of my sunrise sessions in Rosolina Mare (see my What a meaningful world... for information about that peculiar location). This was sort of a discovery for me - a whole new world I had previously seen only through the work of several of my Flickr friends, mainly from Northern Europe.
It has been an exciting experience... The place could have been two light-years far from the nearest touristic beach - yet it was just a stroll! The sun was wrestling his way between the clouds. The world was bathed in a soft, golden light and the grasses were full of glittering raindrops left by a thunderstorm the evening before. And as I was enjoying (and capturing as well) the silent miracle of the sunrise my soul was singing.
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposition" shot).
As I uploaded a full colour sister shot some time ago (see Beach Morning Glory, taken some ten minutes before this), since the beginning I have intended to explore that wonderful sky and some interesting textures in monochrome (Nik Silver Efex Pro 2).
The processing of this bracketing has been rather long and tormented, since it was plagued by many ghosts created by the grasses curving at the gentle breeze. Although I have done my best to get rid of the most intrusive ghosts (gasp, this sounds like one of those youtubers blablaing about some mindsucking videogame :-(... ), I am well aware of the imperfections due to this issue. Even so, I must confess that I love so much this particular scene that at last I could not avoid uploading it :-)

A stormy evening with the clouds literally passing between the buildings. The sun popped out between the clouds at sunset time which provided rich colors and an eerie look.

I've really missed you guys, and I love processing so I took a break from "business pushing" to process a photo. I've missed you guys. Google is now offering the Nik collection of plug-ins for free. These are advertised as working with Photoshop, Aperture and Lightroom.

Yes, I'll admit it, I have a box where I keep tags that are special, elaborate, or just nice. Some for decades, apparently, just like this "D&G" Dolce Gabbana tag that was on... When I found it in the "tag box", it was instantly obvious why I kept it because it has this nicely shiny, iridescent holographic sticker. But where on Earth did I get a Dolce & Gabbana tag from when there are no Dolce & Gabbana clothes in my wardrobe and there never will be because the prices are insane? This went around in my head during the entire photoshoot when, finally, it came back to my mind: the belt. The posh-looking belt I bought some 20 or maybe even 25 years ago (at the KaDeWe at a much-reduced price). A thin thingy made of light grey leather combined with a braided brass/leather cord (a little longer than the leather part) that looks as weird as it sounds, and I never quite knew how to wear it correctly. I bought it for an occasion that required evening attire, something I didn't have back then and still don't have in my wardrobe today. I remember that I made myself a pair of light grey trousers for said occasion which I combined with a white, vintage tuxedo shirt, and the belt just seemed to match all that weirdness.
So this is the tag that was attached to the belt. When I looked at the images, I noticed the lettering "Autentico", in capital letters, on a few of the many Gs. If you zoom in, you can see that lettering on the small G on the right that sits in the opening of the big G.
My photo is a single shot taken in High-res mode because originally, I'd wanted to tightly crop in on the sticker but then decided to show the entire holographic sticker and how it sits on the tag. The upper part has another D&G logo stitched in black onto the fabric and a brown leather piece with a hole for the string. I tried some bokeh shots with the Laowa 50mm Ultra Macro but then decided to go for a straightforward, all-over sharp presentation.
The holographic sticker's size is 1,4 x 1,4 cm/0,39 x 0,39 inches.
