The wisteria smelled gorgeous and as we stood for a few moments we could hear happy chirping birds, bleeting sheep, a humming tractor and horses neighing in the distance.

Yes I am a silly old romantic but I absolutely love the countryside and especially at this time of year.

The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls

The tide rises, the tide falls,

The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;

Along the sea-sands damp and brown

The traveller hastens toward the town,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.

Darkness settles on roofs and walls,

But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls;

The little waves, with their soft, white hands,

Efface the footprints in the sands,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.

The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls

Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;

The day returns, but nevermore

Returns the traveller to the shore,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This stallion cracked me up as he ran around loudly neighing as mares were ridden past his field, and he looked like he was laughing at me.

Gemma (to the left) and Hannah (to the right) are out exercising their horses. It's a nice day and the snow is almost gone. Suddenly they hear a horse neigh far across the field.

Gemma: That must be the new horse in the stable next to us. Did you hear about it?

Hannah: Oh yes. Amy called me and complained about it for an hour. She had quite a fit.

Gemma: Has she seen him?

Hannah: Yes, she was there when they arrived. In a pink horse box no less! When Amy sees pink, she sees red.

Gemma: What's up with that?

Hannah: Well, do you think pink is an appropriate color for an adult? Or a vehicle? Or a horse?

Gemma: Not really no. Is the horse pink?!

Hannah: Ha ha, dear me no. It's a palomino stallion named Dallas.

I was hoping for a stunning sunset with some clouds but ended up with this shot instead. As we approached this location the clouds cleared and we were left with virtually a clear sky. Not my favourite sunset conditions.

As always with this kind of shot, the difficulty is trying to expose for the lower part of the shot without blowing out the highlights of the moon.

A Stick is Never just a Stick to an Imaginative Dog

Sometimes it's a cigar! ; 0)

Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.

~Carl Sagan

Soundtrack : www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8PAQuyAipo

GIVE ALL YOU GOT FOR LOVE

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

and a stick is just a stick

Sometimes a guitar is just a guitar

and a brick is just a brick

but let your imagination carry you

beyond the obvious to another plane

where anything is possible

and nothing ever remains the same

I frequent that parallel universe

as often as I can

where mundane things do not exist

and a pan is never just a pan

it can transform to be a hat

and a pen can become a wand

that once you wave it say abracadabra

a rabbit appears and a golden pond

where magic and the most nonsensical things

can make you laugh all day

like when the cow jumps over the moon

and the unicorns dance and play

where little dogs run along the shore

and seahorses leap so high

and barking and neighing in harmony

they float up into the clear blue sky

and look down on all the wondrous sights

that stretch before them below

there is nothing that cannot be achieved

when you can turn the clouds to marshmallows

change the colour of the sky to pink or green

and the sea to red or yellow

make it drinkable and sweet like lemonade

or as turbid as limoncello

now the little dog continues on his journey

so happy with his stick cigar

and later tonight he will fall asleep

and dream of where the good things are

for we can remain in reality

for sometimes it is necessary

but to give our minds a rest we must

surely remind ourselves of fairies

goblins and leprechauns and guardian angels

that watch over us in our house and garden

who spread the joy that they have found

and make our hearts soften and never hardened.

For Jennifer and Keith

of Tyson ā¤

As Honey was pulled through the portal, the world blurred, melting into deep violets and silver shadows. When his feet touched the ground again, he stood at the threshold of Gwath.

A hush lingered in the air, broken only by the soft crackle of lanternlight. Gothic spires loomed above him, their jagged silhouettes reaching toward a sky stitched with stars. The realm pulsed with elegance—dark, refined, and oddly seductive. The scent of stone and secrets filled his lungs.

As the mer’s eyes adjusted to the twilight, he saw them—Drow, drifting like whispers through the mist. Tall, graceful, watchful. The sight stirred something warm beneath his ribs.

Allumari, he thought. His beloved. His shadow-born muse.

She would love this place.

A soft neigh cut through the stillness. Turning, Honey found himself face to face with a unicorn—its coat pale as moonlight, its eyes gleaming with quiet intelligence. It stepped closer, then nodded toward a winding path ahead, where the lanterns swayed like fireflies caught in a dream.

ā€œAhh, thank you,ā€ Honey murmured, brushing a silken strand of hair from his cheek with a delicate flick of his wrist. ā€œAre you to be my guide this year?ā€

The unicorn said nothing, but in its gaze was an answer.

He followed.

Shot in July on an outing with my good friend Leanne.

The Å koda 14Tr trolleybusses have been roaming the streets of Vilnius since the early 1980s, and (somehow) are still very much alive. Their ends seems neigh though, as this year the deliveries of the 32Tr trolleybusses have started. The 32Tr series is a cooperation of Å koda, which provided the electronics, and SOR, which was the provider of the general shell of the trolleybusses. The new trolleybusses are already so numerous, that they seem to have completely pushed out the old 14Tr trolleybusses outisde of workdays.

I was very sad to see how few of the 14Tr are still active and I had real trouble getting in some intresting shots. One of the ones I'm really happy with is here.

Škoda 14Tr13/6 numbered #1630 is one of the newer trolleybusses, as it comes from 1997. Here it is seen on a December's late evening, as it's stopping at Šv. Petro ir Povilo bažnyčia (Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, seen in the background), while running line 17 from Žirmūnai to Naujininkai.

A view from the mountainside of Sas de Roces, Sas Neigher and Croda Neigra into the valley "Ciamp de Mez". In the background: the Varosc ridge and the so-called Queen of the Dolomites: Marmolada. Unfortunatelly, from its not so scienc and glacier free southwest mountainside.

This shot was reward for rushing around like crazy after work, quickly going to the supermarket, then getting changed and driving for 40 minutes just to get to this lake.

The resulting shot definately made it feel worth all the effort.

A grad filter made the longer exposure possible. I'd decided to leave twice before finally hanging around to get this shot.

+1 windy shot in comments

I am definitely not a city person, and I'm so very thankful that I can live in the country. :)

It was crazy windy today! The wind almost knocked me over while taking a photo. The animals didn't seem to mind it much, and they were very energetic. Two playful calves were running back and forth and around and around the grownups. They were so cute! The horses were playful as well, though I missed capturing it. The one galloping horse I tried to photograph ran straight to my car to talk to my neighing daughter. :)

The horses paw and prance and neigh,

Fillies and colts like kittens play,

And dance and toss their rippled manes

Shining and soft as silken skeins;...

Old Barn

-- by Vance Oliphant

Just down the road...around the bend,

Stands an old empty barn; nearing the end.

It has sheltered no animals for many years;

No dairy cows, no horses, no sheep, no steers.

The neigh of a horse; the low of a cow;

Those sounds have been absent for some time now.

There was a time when the loft was full of hay,

And the resounding laughter of children at play.

At one time the paint was a bold shade of red;

Gradually faded by weather and the sun overhead.

The doors swing in the wind...the hinges are loose;

Windows and siding have taken a lot of abuse.

The fork, rope and pulleys lifted hay to the mow;

A task that always brought sweat to the brow.

But those good days are gone; forever it seems,

And that old barn now stands with sagging beams.

It is now home to pigeons, rats and mice;

The interior is tatterd and doesn't look very nice.

Old, abandoned barns have become a trend,

Just down the road....around the bend.

Day 52: 21.2.09

And horses go neigh while guns go bang bang. At least that's what the cowboy films would have us believe and we all know how accurate those were so I'm sure we can believe them no bother.

Ah yes the humble western where men were men, women were women and everyone was a stereotype.

That gun shaped thing is actually a universal remote control. It can only do one function but you can change it as many times as you like. I set it up as my camera remote tonight so you could say I really was taking shots :oP

Angus is posing next to the 23'' Brave Mama (Transformed Queen Elinor) Bear Plush Toy, and Formal Merida.

Angus and Merida have been fully deboxed.

My first look at the 2 piece Brave Angus and Merida Doll Set. It was released by the Disney Store on Monday May 14, 2012 online and in stores, along with many other Brave merchandise. It's cost is $39.50 US.

The set consists of the Princess Merida, who is a fully poseable 11.5'' doll in her blue formal dress, carrying a bow and arrow, and her faithful companion Angus, a 12.5'' tall black plush horse doll. Angus is 13.5'' to the top of his ears and is 15'' long. He has white hair on his nose and hooves, and neighs for a few seconds when his nose is pressed.

First I photographed the set in the unopened box. Then with the dolls taken out of the box, but still attached to the inner cardboard backing, which slides out of the box like a tray. Finally, the dolls were fully deboxed, and posed separately and together.
