Spirit, mid call to his pretty Palomino lady love!! I was extremely privileged to ride him on our holiday. (He belongs to my friend who lives in North Wales)

Spirit, a recently broken young Welsh Section D, sporting his new bridle and neighing to nearby horses in low key

We had several horses in the neighbourhood recently that belonged to travellers who were here for a couple of days.

So off we trotted out with cameras, luckily there was no 'rein' 😂🙊

The view from near Whitby Abbey, with bonus horses.

I like to see it lap the miles,

And lick the valleys up,

And stop to feed itself at tanks;

And then, prodigious, step

Around a pile of mountains,

And, supercilious, peer

In shanties by the sides of roads;

And then a quarry pare

To fit its sides, and crawl between,

Complaining all the while

In horrid, hooting stanza;

Then chase itself down hill

And neigh like Boanerges;

Then, punctual as a star,

Stop — docile and omnipotent —

At its own stable door.

I was drawn to horses as if they were magnets. It was in my blood. I must have inherited from my grandfather a genetic proclivity toward the equine species. Perhaps there's a quirk in the DNA that makes horse people different from everyone else, that instantly divides humanity into those who love horses and the others, who simply don't know.

― Allan J. Hamilton

I'm one of those who loves horses. These beauties are Andalusian horses at Farm Ventures in Roberts Creek, BC.

Beautiful Murphy and little Patch. These two live down the road from us, both absolutely adorable. We have permission from the owner to enter his garden any time to capture these two, carrots first though.

Update, we managed to book a week away a few days after the funeral, we’re off to Whitby again, can’t get enough of that place. Hopefully we will be able to manage a summer holiday in Cornwall, fingers crossed.

Happy weekend and 1st of the month. ❤️

The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls

-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow-

The tide rises, the tide falls,

The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;

Along the sea-sands damp and brown

The traveller hastens toward the town,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.

Darkness settles on roofs and walls,

But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls;

The little waves, with their soft, white hands,

Efface the footprints in the sands,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.

The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls

Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;

The day returns, but nevermore

Returns the traveller to the shore,

And the tide rises, the tide falls.

A nice windswept hawthorn tree on the flanks of Cosdon Hill, Northern Dartmoor. Like many other photographers I am naturally drawn towards such beautiful loners - like moths to the light or flies to a cowpat.....There was a proud Dartmoor stallion nearby neighing angrily at those two-legged creatures disturbing the peace. We almost expected it to charge down and chase us but it seemed content enough with us quietly leaving the scene....

A sunny day gives way to a stormy night.

The headless horseman is a spirit of revenge. A tormented soul who wanders the world of the living in search of new victims, who crosses the shadows of the night like lightning on the back of his dark mount and leaves only neighs and ghostly whispers, missing bodies and full pumpkins in his wake. of rot and hatred. What is considered by many to be the first all-American ghost story came from the mind of writer Washington Irving and has been warming hearts since the early 19th century.

Found abandoned by a young neighbor 3 days ago. The girl's parents would not allow the dogs to stay in their home for more than a few hours, so, along with another neighbor we took them to my vet for check-up and vaccinations. They are being dewormed, are mange free, and have been treated for a huge flea infestation. We were able to get a rescue group (K-9 Angels) to sponsor them. They will be available for adoption once they have had their second round of vaccinations, in the meantime my neighor who shared the cost of vetting with me is fostering them.

Yea or Neigh...? :-)

Found at Norden, Rochdale UK.

Start of a short walk near the Ashworth Valley...

So, there I was on Pelican Beach, stumbling across what I initially took to be a horse, more precisely a sea-horse. The mythical creature of the beach log variety. It had a certain equine look, if you squinted and ignored the lack of legs and general horse-ness. But hey, who am I to be a neigh-sayer?

It was wedged so deeply in the sand, must have been some powerful seas wash it up. I suppose the seaweed mane might’ve just washed up on it, or maybe an enterprising mermaid did a little redecorating — who knows? Not many people wander this far down the beach, so it remains a mystery for the ages.

It definitely qualifies as a log with more personality than most that I have encountered!

Their natural habitat is in Southwest Africa, where they live in breeding herds or harems that consist of one stallion and several mares with their offsprings. Young stallions reach sexual maturity at the age of six, at which time they challenge a dominant male to a fight. A dominant male can defend his position for up to 15 years without being chased away. Males with no herd join bachelor groups or form new harems.

>>>They recognize each other by the pattern of their stripes and smell.

>>>These mountain zebras’ neighing has the same sound as that of horses.

The mountain zebra is listed as vulnerable

If this were my horse, I would definitely call it Whinny. While the other horses in the field were happy to graze, this one whinnied at anyone walking past, presumably hoping to be fed :-).

Oh, a wonderful horse is the Fly-Away Horse -

Perhaps you have seen him before;

Perhaps, while you slept, his shadow has swept

Through the moonlight that floats on the floor.

For it's only at night, when the stars twinkle bright,

That the Fly-Away Horse, with a neigh

And a pull at his rein and a toss of his mane,

Is up on his heels and away!

The Moon in the sky,

As he gallopeth by,

Cries: "Oh! what a marvelous sight!"

And the Stars in dismay

Hide their faces away

In the lap of old Grandmother Night.

Always a joy to see the neighbor's horses and donkey out in the field on our street. usually they are far away.

The weeks gallop from summer into September,

gallop away from the lake, a sheen of ice by the shore.

Hoofbeats hammer the gulch where deer hide from the hunter,

echo across a dry slough; a last goose cries in the empty sky.

The weeks snort at a sliver of moon, shiver in the night

of the coyote, its chill call stretching across the land.

Snow obscures the moon, now frost-bitten, withered,

and piles into gullies and hollows deep in the hills.

The nights grow long; the weeks grow shaggy and lean.

They lunge and plough through drifts that plug the valley.

Where the wind whips the hillside almost bare,

they paw at the snow, their jaws tearing the grass.

Winter lodges among them, the frozen carcass of winter,

and spring, next spring, will it ever come?

Bunched together in the lee of a thicket,

the wild horses neigh and neigh and neigh

--Charles Bukowski (1920-1994)

Anya was no ordinary mermaid. Her scales shimmered in hues of pink, a rarity in the depths of the ocean. Her long, flowing hair, the color of sun-kissed sand, cascaded down her back like a waterfall of gold. But Anya yearned for something more than the endless expanse of the sea. She dreamed of the land, the place she'd only ever seen in the dreams of the ancient sea turtles.

One moonlit night, as she gazed up at the stars twinkling above the ocean's surface, Anya whispered her wish to the moon. She longed to experience the warmth of the sun on her skin, to feel the soft grass beneath her feet, and to ride a majestic unicorn across the vast plains of the land.

To her surprise, the moon seemed to listen. The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight pierced the water, Anya felt an unusual tingling sensation. She looked down to see her tail transforming into long, slender legs. Her hair, now dry and flowing freely, caught the sunlight. She was human!

With newfound excitement, Anya swam to the surface and emerged onto the beach. The warm sand beneath her feet felt strange yet wonderful. She looked around, taking in the beauty of the land. The towering trees, the colorful flowers, and the vast expanse of sky filled her with awe.

As she wandered along the shore, she heard a soft neigh. Turning, she saw a magnificent unicorn grazing nearby. Its coat was a shimmering white, and its horn sparkled in the sunlight. Anya approached cautiously, her heart pounding with excitement. The unicorn lifted its head and regarded her with gentle eyes.

Without hesitation, Anya climbed onto the unicorn's back. The creature seemed to know her wish, and with a powerful leap, it soared into the sky. Anya felt a rush of exhilaration as they flew over the land. She saw towering mountains, lush forests, and sparkling rivers. It was everything she had ever dreamed of and more.

For days, Anya and the unicorn traveled together. They explored ancient cities, visited bustling markets, and met people from all walks of life. Anya learned about different cultures, tasted delicious foods, and hoped that soon she would also have the joy of human companionship.

Though she missed the ocean and her mermaid friends, Anya knew she had made the right choice. Her dream had come true, and she was grateful for the opportunity to experience the wonders of the land. As she rode her unicorn across the vast plains, she looked up at the moon and smiled. She was no longer just a mermaid; she was a dreamer, an adventurer, and a human.

As Anya continued her journey, her heart yearned for something more than adventure. She longed for companionship, for someone to share her experiences with. One evening, as she sat on a hilltop, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and purple, she felt a pang of loneliness.

Just as she was about to give up hope, she heard a familiar sound. A gentle rustling in the bushes caught her attention. A young man emerged, his eyes wide with wonder as he gazed at the breathtaking view. His name was Ethan, and he was a traveler like Anya, seeking adventure and meaning in his life.

Anya and Ethan spent hours talking that night. They discovered shared interests, common dreams, and a deep connection that transcended words. As the moon rose, casting its silvery glow over the landscape, Anya knew she had found the love she had been searching for.

Together, they continued their journey, their love growing stronger with each passing day. They explored hidden valleys, climbed towering mountains, and danced under the stars. Anya's heart was filled with joy as she realized that her dream of finding love had come true.

And so, the mermaid who had once dreamed of becoming human and riding a unicorn found not only adventure but also the greatest gift of all: true love. As they rode off into the sunset, hand in hand, Anya knew that her life was complete.
