An old family negative restored

The 229 detector sounds off shortly after they roll by...temperature -1. Exciting.

I wanted to do something like the art version of Negative space where instead of drawing the subject you want to draw you fill in the areas the subject doesn't fill.

There was a bunch of glass plate negatives for sale at an antique mall in Florida and I was showing them to my father and trying to give him an idea of what he could do with his phone. He is 86 and not fully versed in the smart phone world so I took a picture of the negative and then reversed it on the phone so we would get an idea of who this person might be Neither one of us saw a famous face here but in the future it shows a quick way to get a look at glass plates. They show up in antique malls occasionally and I've never had a good sense of if the image would be interesting to me but I like this method.

Taken at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Boston, MA.

The impressive ruins of Monte Albán near the city of Oaxaca are a popular attraction for visitors. The ancient city was one of the earliest in Mesoamerica and was the center of Zapotec culture for more than 1,000 years.

The image is from an 25 year old negative shot from a Yashica ELECTRO 35CC, scanned by an HP Scanjet G4050 and restored with multiple Photoshop operations.

I recently bought a job lot of glass negatives at auction and just spent a few hours photographing them on a lightbox with my dslr then 'developing' them in Photoshop.
