I went to Penguin Island yesterday and the weather was wonderful and the colours of the sea so beautiful. Penguin Island is a tiny island close to Perth and is at the heart of a marine park which abounds with fairy penguins, dolphins, pelicans, stingrays, sea lions and many sea birds. I thought these two shots were good for negative space as even though I saw all of the above I couldn't get a decent shot of any of them!

More photos from the pinhole camera I made in 5th grade. On the right is the negative, on the left the positive. Both on photographic paper. You know, I actually can't remember how I exposed the negative onto the other piece of paper to reverse it. This is taken behind my dad's photo lab-- I must have used one of the many enlargers that he had.
The point at which Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) light rail vehicles head underground toward UB's South Campus. Have you ever seen a more negative set of signs? Danger, Do Not Enter, Caution, Trespassers will be Prosecuted, No Entry... with good reason, of course. It wasn't enough to stop a car from following the tracks into the tunnel about 3 years ago.
Playing around with a camera and different lighting setups this weekend made me realize that I (actually the word isn't strong enough here) suck at shooting still life. Hopefully will at least improve my lighting skills :)
Any tips and advice are welcome.
One softbox camera left.

Calotype whole plate negative Clearprint 1000H paper. Exposed 6 min on a bright day, midday at f/9.
Paper sized in 0.5% potato starch for 5 min in a warm bath, air dried.
Iodised (Greens iodiser no1, Iodide only) with 0.5% potato starch for 5 min. Air dried
Sensitised for 3 min by floating on a slab of glass on replenished solution (Green sensitizer no3 ) with reduced acitic acid for shorter exposure times. Exposed immediately in room temp through a window.
Developed in 0.8% gallic acid by floating, added a few drops Silver Nitrate 8% after 5 min developement, total 13 min floating
Washed 2 x 5 min
Hypo 2 x 10 min
Washing ca 1 hour
This test should provide higher contrast compared to test 1. The loss of speed may be due to separate sizing procedure, change in iodising solution, or less sensitizer absorbed (least probable). Shadows seem to be clear except for stains on the right side.
Glass negatives from Carbon County, PA.
I have no information as to the specific locations or the people in the photos so if anyone knows anything please feel free to comment. That way I can properly catalog the information with that specific negative and preserve its history for future generations.
Photographer credited as: Ephraim E. Rinker
No history on this negative. Perhaps a police funeral.
Image derived from the original glass negative.
I was shooting photos at my son's soccer game today and wanted to capture something a bit different from my usual action shots. The sky was so beautiful and I envisioned this shot. Then it happened seconds later - a bit too quick because the focus isn't as sharp as I like as I moved too quick to catch it. Next weekend I'm going to try a few more negative space shots at the games.
Part of a large batch of vintage negatives I purchased at an estate sale. They seem to be mostly NJ, 1930s and 1940s. If you recognize a building, please comment and let me know where it is.
