wild flowers on the river park nearly summer

***Saponaria officinalis (Caryophyllaceae)

Developed with Darktable 3.6.0.

... a brand new Bird of Paradise flower about to open, to enjoy the wonders of the world.

As seen from the viewpoint right next to parking lot. Taken after first light.

With a sheer plunge of 89 feet, Tumalo Falls is both the tallest and most impressive waterfall along Tumalo Creek - as well as one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the vicinity of Bend. The area around the falls was burnt in a 1979 forest fire, though like the landscape surrounding Mount St. Helens after it's devastating 1980 eruption, the forest is quickly healing. A few snags still line the hillsides along the valley but the area is green again, covered with small fir trees and not at all detracting from the splendor of the falls. A nice set of viewpoints both at the top and near the base of the falls make viewing the falls possible for nearly everyone.

The cygnets, nearly-swans, were a source of interest on North Pond, Bishops Waltham. But last time I was there on the long wooden footbridge which crosses the pond, they were nowhere to be seen. A look around the other end of the pond accessible by the main road, also revealed only their absence.

And then a friend told me that they are taken to a sanctuary for safe-keeping during the winter. So, hopefully, spring will show them all, resplendent in their fully-grown white plumage and hopefully we will be allowed there to take their photo.

It has been a tradition in my family to bake cookies for Advent and Christmas since forever - the recipes are older than me.

And it is nearly a tradition for me, to post badly lit pictures of Marie in the kitchen, helping me at it during Advent.

Toy Project Day 2335

The Slow Melt.....

The first really warm day in nearly five months found us traversing the back woods in search of some wonderful spring shots. in the north end of White Spruce Park

the trails in the furthest edges of the park still had some snow on the trials but most of it had melted in the recent warm

temperatures.

Well level 4 lockdown end may be in sight for us in New Zealand. Which will mean I can again go out to photograph sunsets and sunrises. Like this one taken 14th January 2018, Taken from Te Mata Peak looking over a misty Tuki tuki valley out to the east coast. Hawke's Bay New Zealand

One of the many stretches along Anglezarke woodland walks.

Large finch, nearly twice the size of a goldfinch. Stocky with strong, thick, pale bill and short, notched tail. Males are stunning with dark head fading to bright yellow underparts, and mostly black wings with bright white secondaries. Females are overall gray with some white on the wing. Flocks often come to feeders for sunflower seeds. Found in forested regions especially at higher elevations. Populations declining dramatically. (eBird)

Taken through my dining room window on the first and only time that they visited the feeders in one of my former homes.

Winter wheat about to be harvested near to Newport.

Nearly 18000 steps today, the sofa is mine now.... 😉

If it wasn't for those ears, he might have remained undiscovered in the deep grass.

... Not far to go now :-)

With just a reversing manoeuvre back into Freightliners Midland Road and this pair of class 66’s will be stabled for the night.

With its overhaul nearly complete and temporarily in LNER wartime black, 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley stands outside Locomotive Services Ltd shed at Crewe during the SNGLT members day.

Stuck my head into the greenhouse this afternoon and found this blooming well , this specimen has already thrown up three flowers nearly at the same time and after a rest has thrown up another late bloom . This is near enough SOOC , I took the cactus out of the green house and popped it onto the lid of a garden storage unit with a bit of sunlight on it , the ivy on the fence was in the shade so the background was very dark out of the camera so all I did was drop the shadows and tidied the shot with a crop - job done !!

HBW my Friends! I have about 100,000 blooms on 9 bushes in my front yard! Selecting one to shoot was very difficult!

after a few days of lovely snow, it disappeared again.

He certainly puts the willies up Benny and Ellie. Won't be long now before he gets really feisty. This rhyne is all the family have as the water goes out of the pond underground for about 1/2 mile when briefly appears opposite my house only to pop underground for another 500yds then on it's way to the River Brue about a mile and a half away.
