On a few occasions of late I have briefly seen a rat appear newly the feeders at Old Moor. This time though it was very much out in the open rather than hidden in the foliage.
On our dog walks, this is one of my happy places. We managed to get there this morning for our one exercise outing of the day (although this was taken a few weeks ago). I'm so glad I managed to get some eggs in a little shop on the way, first time in two and a half weeks! Being a family of veggies it's been a little worrying not to be able to get certain things. Stay safe and keep your distance x
I've been looking "up" to take pics, well now I'm looking down. lol. What a cool abstract pattern in the parking lot of a local park!! I wonder if the workers really filled cracks in the pavement or was it art. Maybe both! In any case.. I love it. :-)
This gorgeous Atlantic Puffin takes a break from collecting nesting materials and decides what to do next? We visited a known nesting site near Elliston, on the Bonavista Peninsula in eastern Newfoundland in early July and we discovered a small group of these little creatures that had ventured off of their nesting island and were seemingly gathering nesting materials on the mainland. I couldn't believe my good luck to have some of them within easy reach of a 100-400 mm ( plus a 1.4 Extender ) . I photographed a few , I didn't spend too much time with them as the rain was falling gently and I had captured a few decent images. Atlantic Puffins are the CUTEST little cartoon birds that I could ever imagine!

Its going to have to be archived shots now. A misty Wareham back in July.
Been trying to keep my spirits up. Suffering real cabin fever, I took quite a whack on the stairs and I think it will be a couple of weeks before I can move around freely without swearing.
But it was cheery today seeing a picture of my 90 year old mother having a go at bowling from her wheelchair in the care home lounge having joined the "I've been vaccinated" gang.
So heres to moving around in the future. Without any restrictions!

This No.1A Kodak Jr. (made between 1914 to 1927) was photographed with my cell phone's camera, sent wirelessly to a desk top computer and edited in Lightroom.
Even tho I'll always prefer to use a "real" camera and AI holds zero interest for me, there are many times when cellular cameras come in handy. Statistics for 2023 calculate that globally we take 54,000 pictures per second and as many as 4.7 billion photos EVERY day. Wow.

CSX L425-05, led by 4419, begins the climb out of the Miami River Valley with a short train for Connersville. 4419 has been bouncing around Cincinnati area locals for some time now so it's finally nice to see it.

This snipe is hunting for food by poking his beak into the mud. It just finished poking on the right side of that clump of stuff right under its beak and now it is taking a step to poke on the other side. The snipes need those rather long beaks because they are often poking deep up to their face.

Timing in photography can make a huge difference in the appeal or action captured.
I was fortunate to capture this ducks behavior at the right time as it seemed to be responding in a less than friendly manner to the other duck nearby! - I love the other duck's indifference to the verbal attack too!!! :-)
I'm sure we could relate to this kind of behavior and probably substitute the ducks for people!! :-)

I stopped by Wright-Locke Farm yesterday when I saw that there would be a decent sunset, and found the five goats grazing happily on the hillside. Rufus kept his head down much of the time, only lifting his head to bleat at me, as if to say, "I'm busy, just pat me already."
Do you see it? Ant attached to hummingbird's feet... joy ride? lunch? who's got whom? (female ruby-throat hummingbird sampling the crocosmia (red flower) blooming now in the garden.

But she is tying up badly needed medical resources now.
"Sorry about the blood on the sheets", says a nurse and puts a plastic doll in the little girl's limp hand. It's late afternoon and the soft light coming through the plastic where the windows used to be is fading. "It will be too dark in a few minutes", I tell myself, trying to overcome the numbing pain so I can do something. Do something. Do what?
I want to stroke the little girl's cheek. Tell her she will be all right. Make everything all right. I want to curl up on the floor and cry. I want it all to go away.
But it will never go away. So I do what I always do. I absorb yet another dose of it. I expose a few frames of film and myself to every nuance of the horror of a child torn apart by shrapnel.
The photograph is grotesquely beautiful. I have turned a scream into music. ;-((
