"The sacred lamp of day Now dipt in western clouds his parting day." - William Falconer

This ones from the archives. It's been really cold here in London over the last couple of weeks, so haven't taken much shots - basically I'm lazy!. LOL

Apologies for the slightly off balanced capture, should have cropped/edited it on iphoto.

The girl on the left is a friend of mine Ethel aka Honbless, do check her stream. She's an amazing photographer..

Shot details:

Exposure: 1/100 s

Aperture: f/11

ISO: 250

Now that the days are getting shorter and the temperature is dropping, we are cheered up in the garden by a Robin, always active and singing regularly!

A very welcome visitor.

Nu de dagen alweer korter worden en de temperatuur omlaag gaat worden we in de tuin opgevrolijkt door een Roodborstje, steeds actief en regelmatig aan het zingen! Een zeer welkome bezoeker.

The green waves now follow the green wall.

This is the second photo from the Rolling Hills location in Moravia, Czech Republic.

At the same time, this is my absolute favorite photo from the entire tour. If I had returned home after three days with just this photo, I would have been completely satisfied (of course I'm still happy that that's not the case).

This picture shows a slightly wider view of the hills behind the line of trees. Because of this, and because of the more intense "light and shadow play", it has a completely different dynamic than the version I showed you last week.

My wish as a photographer is to create at least one photo every month, which I really like. With this photo here, I have definitely achieved this target for April.

for NOW YOU, the assignment: whimsy.

things didn't really go as planned. i hoped to take some photos during the beautiful golden hour, with backlit sunshine, but i just couldn't get to my favorite, private spot until the sun was already pretty much down. darn!

i might have to try this again. but i also want to go for something a little more silly. i wish i had a whole day just to play!

The flowers on this hand painted brass button are at least 110 years old. The Yarrow, on the other hand, came from my garden today. :)

Now demolished. A Re-edited version on earlier post.

I think this one is a running crab spider but as always my ID skills for Spiders are not particularly good so please feel free to correct me. Arachtober 26 ;0)

This pair of Bessemer and Lake Erie SD40T-2s (B&LE) has been working in the Fond du Lac as the shover job up the Byron Hill south toward Lomira on and off now for almost the past year.

Yesterday they finished the shove on Track 2 for a pair of leaders on the head end flying up the Waukesha Sub before 901 lead the shovers before they got the return on track 1 back down the hill toward North Fond du Lac into Shops.

A couple weeks back, I noticed an influx of shots of the Indiana Railroad here on Flickr, and they really had me eying the railroad seriously for the first time. Most of what runs on this railroad isn't easy to find information on by any means, but their two flagship SAHW and HWSA manifests have been covered widely enough that you can find them with relative ease. But that was about it, as far as me looking for weekend movements were concerned.

A close friend of mine and I made the 2 1/2 hour drive down to Indianapolis, my state's capitol, on Sunday morning, to celebrate his new job, the coming of warmer days, and to scope out the INRD for both of our first time. We waited around the first public vantage point to get the Senate Avenue-based SAHW leaving the yard. As expected, they left right at 1430, and the properly-lit chase was on. But if you know me well enough, properly-lit subject matter and my camera hardly ever make contact. Chasing the train south of Morgantown and into the state forests revealed to me that this railroad was much much much more scenic than I originally anticipated - certainly blowing any other railroad I've ever shot out of the water! What I also noticed though, was that many more shots (at least from the perspective of my chase route) existed for northbound moves as opposed to southbounds, like the one I was chasing. So, I decided to chase the train to Tulip Trestle and wait for the northbound, backlit HWSA to appear.

And the chase thru (my personal) preferred hazy blown out light was on.

Here is HWSA, the northbound Hiawatha-Senate Avenue Yard manifest, heading east thru what is technically unincorporated Monroe County, Indiana. Lake Lemon can be seen to the right of the frame, while the lush in-bloom greenery of Vaughn Hollow is seen at left.

This railroad is amazing, and I will certainly be back very very soon. If there's enough interest, I'll probably post a few more shots, though they are generic, well-lit scenes that others have shot. This was by far my favorite of the day though!

... where the moon gets the light from ... :-))))

Now that I can drive a bit further I went out to some of the semi rural areas nearby and came across this view across the flowering hedge towards the nearby hills. There are a couple of National Parks nearby and also orchards, horse studs and some hobby farming. But a beautiful green view on a dull day.

Tonight the distance restrictions are eased again so from tomorrow I can drive 15km, enough to see the sea again and go up to parts of the Dandenong Ranges. The weather remains typically springlike with a couple of fine days followed by days of cloud, rain and wind. Hence the lovely green views.

This gorgeous Atlantic Puffin takes a break from collecting nesting materials and decides what to do next? We visited a known nesting site near Elliston, on the Bonavista Peninsula in eastern Newfoundland in early July and we discovered a small group of these little creatures that had ventured off of their nesting island and were seemingly gathering nesting materials on the mainland. I couldn't believe my good luck to have some of them within easy reach of a 100-400 mm ( plus a 1.4 Extender ) . I photographed a few , I didn't spend too much time with them as the rain was falling gently and I had captured a few decent images. Atlantic Puffins are the CUTEST little cartoon birds that I could ever imagine!

Snapping around with the mobile. Sweden really offer a great variation of marvelous situations and scapes. I don't have time for dsrl shooting and can´t wait for long exposures for scene like this one but it will be in the future. Last days in Sweden after having done lot of things before the move the 15th of June. You all understand that, at the moment, I only have time for this kind of photos and to say hi. Hope you are all doing well.

Edit 08/06: won't post so many pictures but I'll try to play catch up a bit...

Just time for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was quite surprised to find a small flock of American robins at Cardinal Marsh today. They were feeding on red cedar tree berries. These diehard robins have proved they can survive a polar vortex so no big deal about getting by until spring now.

This No.1A Kodak Jr. (made between 1914 to 1927) was photographed with my cell phone's camera, sent wirelessly to a desk top computer and edited in Lightroom.

Even tho I'll always prefer to use a "real" camera and AI holds zero interest for me, there are many times when cellular cameras come in handy. Statistics for 2023 calculate that globally we take 54,000 pictures per second and as many as 4.7 billion photos EVERY day. Wow.
