Test shots from the second roll of Kodak Vision ECN2 320T film that was kindly sent to me by Max Miedinger Max Miedinger.

This film stock was made for cinematography, and is balanced for Tungsten light and uses the ECN-2 process. The film has a sticky black "Remjet" coating which must be removed, and prevents the film being processed in a standard C41 lab. I used my exhausted Tetenal C41 kit so as not to risk spoiling a new batch.

The expected blue cast is due to the film being used in daylight without a correcting filter.

I used an Olympus XA camera, and set the meter to ISO 200.

After berating myself for buying so many of these Matchbox 1966 Dodge A100's last year when they initially appeared at ASDA I have gone and done exactly the same thing this week with the newer Batch H and K which have finally showed their faces. It must be the power and nostalgia of the MBX brand which sees me going absolutely mad for them especially the more desirable licensed ones. Right now I am gorging myself on Nissan Juniors, BMW i3's and VW Golf Countrys but back in August 2016 it was these little beauties which were coming home in big numbers. Its not even as though this has been my favourite recolour given to this casting as that accolade goes to both the Mothers and Firestone versions but its a fantastic little classic commercial model nonetheless beautifully cast and well proportioned. Mint and boxed.

Santa Fe to Williams, 12 November 2017

We had a great time in Santa Fe, but I had to get back to work, so on Sunday, 12 November, it was time to start our trip home.

We were stopping off at the Grand Canyon on the way back. I had visited the Grand Canyon in 1982 and 1983, so it had been a while for me, and Anne had never been there.

On 12 November, we took Railrunner back Albuquerque and then Amtrak's Southwest Chief to Williams Jct., Arizona, the station nearest the Grand Canyon. ATSF used to serve Williams on its main line, but a line relocation around 1960 reduced grades and curves and moved the main line a little ways north of Williams. ATSF still had a line through Williams as their line to Phoenix continued to use the old main line to Ash Fork, the former junction with the Phoenix line. Williams was the junction of ATSF's Grand Canyon branch.

Our trip started on the 1020 am departure from Santa Fe, train 703, led by MP36 106. The trip to Albuquerque took an hour and a half, which would have left us with over 4 hours in Albuquerque until the Chief was due. We were planning to have lunch, but then what?

I half jokingly suggested to Anne that we ride the train all the way to the end of the line at Belen and then return. That would take another 1.5 hours and still leave us plenty of time to get lunch before the Chief was due. She had settled into her seat on Railrunner and decided that if she had to kill some time, riding the train was as good of a way to do it as sitting at the combined Greyhound and Amtrak station in Albuquerque. The extra charge to go all the way to the end of the line and back was $1 each, so it did not break the bank.

We got to see the country that we passed through in the dark on our way to Albuquerque. Beautiful, if desolate north of Albuquerque, greener south of there as the train follows the Rio Grande to Belen. We saw some bison at one point.

At Belen, a cut of BNSF units was crossing over on the main line next to the the Railrunner station as our train waited 15 minutes to return north.

Back in Albuquerque, we stashed our bags and went back to the same New York style pizza place where we ate a few days earlier. Good pizza and good beer.

An Amtrak P42 and Horizon coach were parked at the station. Not sure why they were there.

The Chief arrived early, shortly after we'd moved out to the platform to wait for it. We climbed on after a big crowd got off. It seemed to me that about half of the coach passengers get off in Albuquerque and a new batch gets on. The train only had 2 coaches and they were full. Amtrak could probably run another coach on this train in the off season ad still fill it.

The dining car dinner did not disappoint, even if we had to take a relatively early seating as that was what was left when we boarded. We were not yet famished, having eaten a fair bit of pizza for lunch.

The sunset was gorgeous, then the night was dark. We were on time into Williams Jct., where a van operated by the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel was waiting to pick us up.

a new batch of graffiti decorates REOTown

I just got a new batch of my moo cards yesterday. Anyone want to trade?

New batch Hot Wheels are trickling through to the U.K. but as of yet certainly not in the numbers usually seen. I finally managed to find the new recolour for the 1967 Austin Mini Van and thankfully it was worth the wait. Its basically a yellow and black version of the last Campbell's Garage one and looks just as striking as the previous and more importantly it looks realistic and believable which can't be said of some of its previous incarnations. As ever it is well cast with a stock looking body and incorporates accurate BMC Mini features of the period such as external door hinges. Hopefully this will begin to show up on the pegs in bigger quantities shortly! Mint and boxed.

For better or worse Matchbox seem to be kings of the generic off road vehicles with an almost never-ending conveyor belt of new stuff being launched at the expense of more desirable licensed models. The Four X Force is one of their latest and although if i'm honest I probably wouldn't have bought it out of choice it has definitely grown on me, possibly because it does look credible and realistic. Part of a full 24 case of new batch MBX I bought directly from the U.S. back in November 2016 though subsequently this batch did appear in ASDA stores later on and indeed can still be found there in large quantities! Mint and boxed.

I've been working on new batch of dresses, This one is perfect for Wilhelmina!

LAND 7: SUPER MARIO BROS. MIDWAY

Welcome to the land inspired by the original Super Mario Bros. video game. The game that started it all now has a home inside the Super Mario World theme park. Here guests will walk along brick roads and feel as if they’re walking through the iconic first level of Super Mario Bros., complete with the castle and flagpole located at the end of the level as well as the iconic music from the first game being blasted from speakers in every corner of this land. Also, this whole land is one giant photo opportunity for Super Mario fans because they’ll get the chance to act like they’re jumping to hit a question block, or they’re stomping on a goomba, or they’re throwing a fire ball, because all of these iconic actions will be set up for guests to interact with and capture the moment with a picture. But the three (3) main attractions along the midway are: the big e-ticket ride - The Super Mario Bros. Roller Coaster, Journey into Giant Land, and the Nintendo Pavilion.

JOURNEY INTO GIANT LAND

Located inside an enormous Question Block, guests get the opportunity to ride through Giant Land (aka Big Island from Super Mario Bros. 3). In Giant Land, everything is bigger than normal! Koopa Troopas are so big that guests literally ride through their empty shells. This whole attraction is geared toward young children and provides a slow-paced indoor ride for adults allowing them to relax and rest for a little while. The whole indoor attraction depicts the outdoor environments from the SMB3 levels. Both children and adults feel like kids again as they ride between hammer-tossing giant Hammer Brothers, are surrounded by enormous brick structures, pass by Goombas bigger than their ride vehicles, and watch as question blocks produce gigantic Fire Flowers. Audio-animatronics bring this Giant Land to life, and the only thing missing is a clear narrative. This ride is a variation of the “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” play area at Hollywood Studios, the queue line for “Toy Story Midway Mania” at Hollywood Studios, and dark rides such as “Winnie the Pooh” and “Snow White.”

THE SUPER MARIO BROS. ROLLER COASTER

What better way to represent the classic feel of the original Super Mario Bros video game than with a classic wooden roller coaster! What sets this roller coaster apart is the fact that it is a dual-track wooden roller coaster. Passengers have a choice between riding the red Super Mario roller coaster or the green Super Luigi roller coaster. Both of these tracks weave past each other at top speeds and you can expect plenty of fun drops and turns when it involves these two brothers. While the ride itself does not tell a story, it does allow guests to be nostalgic and enjoy the fun associated with wooden roller coasters and the Super Mario Bros. This ride is a variation of the dual-track wooden roller coaster “Gwazi” at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL.

Queue line features:

- The origin of the Super Mario Bros is explained in murals, and episodes of the Super Mario Bros cartoon are televised.

- Promotional posters and memorabilia from around the world are on display throughout the queue, showing just how big of an international impact this game has made.

- Queue will also act as a museum showing the changing appearance of Mario & Luigi over the past couple decades.

- A portion of the queue will also feature Fan Art, since there is such a huge fan base for these loveable characters.

- The overall “feel” of the queue is FUN and nostalgic. Lots of primary colors, similar to the ones used in the original game, and the textures of the walls and ground should still resemble that of the original video game.

NINTENDO PAVILION

Welcome to the Super Mario Bros. retrospective, brought to you by Nintendo. This building serves two functions: (1) is the gift shop in which everyone getting off the Super Mario Bros roller coaster will enter, and (2) provides a historical collection of every game featuring Mario and all of the original gaming systems those games were played on. This gives all of the 30-something aged guests a chance to revisit the consoles they grew up with, and introduces the original systems to a new batch of young children. Children get to see how much technology has advanced over the years and hopefully it will inspire them to come up with the next advancements in video game technology. On top of all the original games and consoles, there will also be a first-person virtual reality simulator that allows guests to interact with the game environments. They will feel as if they’re literally “inside” the game; running, jumping, avoiding obstacles, using power-ups, etc. As also mentioned, the Nintendo Pavilion will be a gift shop full of Super Mario Bros merchandise and some other Nintendo properties, including the various gaming consoles and characters such as Donkey Kong.
