As you can see, the USB extension cable is attached to the dish by copious amounts of hot glue. Strain relief is provided by a zip tie. Signal strength (as reported by Windows) is improved by 20-30% when the dish is aligned properly. (I am detecting networks from the apartment building behind us, now.)

One thing I should have done before gluing the connector on is tune the dish by seeing where the optimal placement/alignment of the adapter would be. I have no idea where the antenna is in the adapter itself, so I can't work it out on paper. I suspect that performance could be enhanced even greater if tuned properly.

I plan on building another, and using them to create a point-to-point link.

Yes, I needed to look that word up...I think my router fits the definition: "the place or area at which different things meet and communicate with or affect each other"

See the "Wired vs Wireless Networking" video

live.pirillo.com/ - What's the one thing Linksys, D-Link, and Netgear all have in commin? They all offer networking equipment, both wired and wireless. A user in the chat room wants to know what's better: wired or wireless networks. The answer: It really depends on what you're going to be doing on your network. For the average user, the only thing you really need to worry about is what systems are going to be on your network: will they be laptops, desktops, or a combination of the two?If you use mostly laptops, then you would be better off with a totally wireless networking solution. With a wireless network you won't be tethered by an Ethernet cable, and you'll be able to use the Internet virtually anywhere in your home.If you use mostly desktops, then you might want to consider having a wired network. A wired network offers a bit more security, since your packets will be restricted to the Ethernet cable, and you won't have to worry about acquiring a good signal from you

r wireless router. Plus, Ethernet is fast (up to one gigabit per second) and getting faster (the latest standards drafts suggest speeds as high as 100 gigabits per second). If you use both laptops and desktops, or if you want to introduce a wired network into a wireless one, you could always go with a hybrid network. There are some security issues with using a wireless network, such as the potential for packet sniffing, so you'll need to take the appropriate security measures to secure your wireless network, but if it's properly secured you should not run into any problems. What do you think is better: wired or wireless?Check out the Wired or Wireless Networking video on YoutTube and subscribe to our channel! This video was originally shared on blip.tv by l0ckergn0me with a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDeri

My opinion: "One of the best routers on the market, working with two bands, the signal is very good even for large distances. Excellent option to sync Apple TV External HD or even share one printer. For those who like games, great choice to play wireless or wired on Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. "

I needed to increase the gain of this USB adapter, so I made a parabolic dish for it out of a vegetable steamer. Cost approximately $20, $15 of it being the cost of the tripod it is mounted on.

I've spent most of the weekend trying out two routers. The Netgear DG834PN and Apple's Airport Extreme. The Netgear is a really nice bit of kit and I really wanted to use a combined modem and router, but it just wasn't to be. Dead spots in a few rooms and no support for WDS. The Extreme is zippy and I extended the network with an old g base station.

The web address www.routerlogin.net belongs to the Netgear router devices and can be used to configure the network settings easily. You can also use the IP address to access the same. This one is always-on. Even if there is a power-outage, it will run for about 3 and a half hours. To save energy, it is undervolted to run at 60% of its normal energy intake. The fans are set to turn on at 70 degrees celcius; however, it runs between 52 and 60 degrees celcius; it runs silent!

It's attached to the same external monitor/keyboard/mouse that the MacBook uses using the Dell monitors' built-in video switch and a software-based KM-switch.

This is my Netgear WGR614v4 Wi-Fi hub/router, and its power supply. The latter weighs at least 2x the former. So the spot may be hot, but the supply is heavy. Much more than it needs to be, I'm sure.

Netgear R7000 11ac 1900Mbps 無線分享器

While dumpster diving, I found two free Netgear GS748Tv3 48-port gigabit managed ethernet switches that my company was throwing out. They're very capable, well-built, popular devices, and these were both in good condition. I love Netgear's metal switches, they work great and they last forever. The only problem is that this model is designed to live in a server room or datacenter, and they're loud as shit.

The original equipment contained three 40mm Delta fans (9000 RPM, 33–37 dbA, 9.5–10 CFM) and they always ran at 100%. I took each switch apart, threw out the old fans, and replaced them with pairs of SilenX iXtrema Pro IXP-11-14 fans (3500 RPM, 14 dBA, 5 CFM).

The old fans used two wires, but the new ones had an additional wire to allow the tachometers to be read. The wiring layout between these two configurations is different for some reason, so I had to unclip each of the connectors and reverse the order that the wires attached to the hardness. When you plug it in, the tachometer pin is left unattached, and the fan spins normally.

After this modification, the switches have gone from "I can't be in the same room as one" to "I might be able to fall asleep in the same room as one."

No, I didn’t win. If only they stepped away from the table. I could have stolen the roll, split it in half and dumped it in. :-D
