Clearly shows the ridiculous number of dropouts, especially the 16th, which finally prompted me to get a new Netgear DG834 modem, which has been perfectly connected since 1223 on the 18th.

Our ISP provider provided a modem a few years ago. It broke, they provided another one, a few years ago. It's been crap ever since we installed it 5 years ago, it finally gave up the ghost on Tuesday. Rang ISP provider who basically said, buy your own. So we did. A Netgear N300 wifi modem and router. Worst bit was trying to remember ISP username and password, but 20 minutes from plugging in we've connected everything, including mobile devices. It's great to be back ;)

As you can see, the USB extension cable is attached to the dish by copious amounts of hot glue. Strain relief is provided by a zip tie. Signal strength (as reported by Windows) is improved by 20-30% when the dish is aligned properly. (I am detecting networks from the apartment building behind us, now.)

One thing I should have done before gluing the connector on is tune the dish by seeing where the optimal placement/alignment of the adapter would be. I have no idea where the antenna is in the adapter itself, so I can't work it out on paper. I suspect that performance could be enhanced even greater if tuned properly.

I plan on building another, and using them to create a point-to-point link.

Yes, I needed to look that word up...I think my router fits the definition: "the place or area at which different things meet and communicate with or affect each other"

See the "Wired vs Wireless Networking" video

live.pirillo.com/ - What's the one thing Linksys, D-Link, and Netgear all have in commin? They all offer networking equipment, both wired and wireless. A user in the chat room wants to know what's better: wired or wireless networks. The answer: It really depends on what you're going to be doing on your network. For the average user, the only thing you really need to worry about is what systems are going to be on your network: will they be laptops, desktops, or a combination of the two?If you use mostly laptops, then you would be better off with a totally wireless networking solution. With a wireless network you won't be tethered by an Ethernet cable, and you'll be able to use the Internet virtually anywhere in your home.If you use mostly desktops, then you might want to consider having a wired network. A wired network offers a bit more security, since your packets will be restricted to the Ethernet cable, and you won't have to worry about acquiring a good signal from you

r wireless router. Plus, Ethernet is fast (up to one gigabit per second) and getting faster (the latest standards drafts suggest speeds as high as 100 gigabits per second). If you use both laptops and desktops, or if you want to introduce a wired network into a wireless one, you could always go with a hybrid network. There are some security issues with using a wireless network, such as the potential for packet sniffing, so you'll need to take the appropriate security measures to secure your wireless network, but if it's properly secured you should not run into any problems. What do you think is better: wired or wireless?Check out the Wired or Wireless Networking video on YoutTube and subscribe to our channel! This video was originally shared on blip.tv by l0ckergn0me with a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDeri

My opinion: "One of the best routers on the market, working with two bands, the signal is very good even for large distances. Excellent option to sync Apple TV External HD or even share one printer. For those who like games, great choice to play wireless or wired on Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. "
