After organizing my families stuff in our storage unit recently, I came across boxes & boxes of my childhood books that my mother had saved. While I was growing up reading was really encouraged and for holidays and birthdays I often got books from my parents as gifts.
Theses are all Hallmark Pop-up books and fairytale books with amazing puppet/dolls and 3D covers. I loved these types of books when I was a kid!
My mom bought the Japanese fairytale books for me while we were planning a trip to Japan in the 70s. She thought they would help me learn about the country I was about to visit and she was right. I plan on doing a lot of scanning in the coming months!

The shadow’s silence so profound
fills to the brim the darkest mind -
a jungle full of beasts of any kind,
but human soul is nowhere to be found!

I think that is the title of the book in Chinese. This book is about an English woman who felt called to go to China. She could not find a missionary society who would help her, so she figured out a way to do it on her own. It is a fascinating true story about the adventure of a lifetime-Gladys's lifetime!

I just finished reading "My Sister, My Love", a novel by Joyce Carol Oates, and a new book, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", a novel by Stieg Larsson, arrived in the mail today!
The Joyce Carol Oates book is not one of my favorites of hers - but the final chapters were very powerful and moving
I love the anticipation of starting a new book! I may have to come back to Flickr tomorrow - I have a new book to start tonight!

Ho scritto per alcuni anni quello che mi passava per la testa, senza costruire, senza mettere ordine, se non quello dettato dal tempo. 80 componimenti senza un filo logico. In prosa poetica illustrata. Perché effettivamente non hanno un filo logico. Forse più un gomitolo logico. Perché racconto, perché ho fatto finta di scrivere delle poesie. Perché non riesco a non associarvi delle immagini. Mie o di altri. E c’è della musica in sottofondo e del cinema. Grandi passioni, che vengono fuori da sole. Parlo di me, con autobiografico distacco. Quello che sono, quello che non sono, quello che mi sono avvicinato e allontanato dall’essere. Parlo di sentimenti e sensazioni. E situazioni. 80 occasioni per raccontarmi, 80 momenti vissuti con ironia, gioia e incazzatura. Mi chiamo Andrea. Ma questo l’ho già detto altrove. Altrove sì.
E' il libro per chi ha voglia di cimentarsi con i racconti brevi e brevissimi, le false poesie (prosa poetica, nda), la prosa illustrata e i disegni impertinenti.
Veloce per chi ha fretta, lento per chi ha tempo, acuto e poco smussato, non ha un inizio e non ha una fine.
C’è solo quello che sta nel mezzo.
80 pezzi, scollegati tra loro o collegati per caso.
Riflessioni, divagazioni, invenzioni.
Gioia e rabbia. Ma sempre con ironia.
Argomenti che ognuno di voi affronta nel proprio intimo. O almeno io.

saints and sinners
- We all have some
we say we are saints, when we really are sinners
we all have a past, we all have a future
How we can use this is up to us..
we are a ghost or we have ghost all around us
a past that we can't let go because we had grow
attach to it to the way that it use to makes us feel
we had our moments but it wasn't meant to be
in the present we find someone that want to makes us feel
the way we used to feel before, but she can't she try and try
so hard every day every ,hour but we just don't feel what we
used to feel in the past ... and we talk to our past wishing to be the
present , wishing to be there with us when we already have something
better but we don't see it like that ,we see it as a drama as a sacrifice
every day we fight against what we can't understand
The future is already written for some and the hope to change it
is unacceptable, unthinkable , yet we still holding to the present
giving it illusions about a future that will never happen
we all are saints and sinners
The present just want to give the best ,every day every moment
but sometimes that is just not enough she looks in to the future and she sees
the past of her present hunting them every moment , because her present
doesn't want to let go the past because there is moments that he wishes that
present was the past ...she is getting tired and present wants to look for a new future
New future is there with present but ,the new future is special
because he is future he has nothing and is empty
but there is no past to hunt them down , just future
so present has to be the balance and put in her hands
past and future ..to make a decision of the heart
suffer with present and cry every day holding to a past that was never her own
or leaving present and going with future ,he is good full of dreams and hopes
but he is empty he can't give present all the things that she deserve until
he becomes present , so there lies the question
past or future
we all are saints and sinners
The future is unsuspected and full of surprises even do he is empty
there is always space and time for present always ... and he always will be there
for present no matter what , future wants present to be with him
but some times he is afraid of what it can do to past
because they are friends , old time friends and present just come to them
but future has so happy to see past and present together and happy at least for
a moment on time future know that past and present can't be together
even if they want to be ...future just dream about present and even dream together some times
future gets sad when past makes present cry and he just want to help present
but present some times is indifferent to future .. future just sits in the corner watching everything
happen everything coming to pass
but the clock is ticking for all of them
the balance will decide if present goes to past or goes to future ...
past doesn't want to let go , the present is blind ,and the future is just hope
