Taken for the Scavenger Hunt 101 #56 - A Bookshelf and The Guardian My Bookshelf Group. I'm not sure what it says about my reading habits and I'm not sure I care. Read, read anything and always, it's fun and it's good for you.

These are two of the books I own in two copies: usually, the oldest one is in Italian, the new(ish) one in English.

This Italian copy of "Moby Dick" is not the firs one I read: I had a Moby Dick at my parent's home, but i can remember the translation: it was the same.

Reading a book in translation is of course very different from reading it in the original language: that's why I started to read what I could find in English.

English translation, Vintage Books, 1982.

The Clash book, a mega volume on the best band that ever was , the only bad that matters, The Clash !

I have taken some of my animal stories, and other things, that I have here on Flickr and modified them so that they can be viewed on a Kindle. For those who don’t have a kindle you can get free downloads so you can view them on a PC, iPad or iPhone. I had to make the books so that they would be compatible on about 6 or 7 different modes of viewing them, but I got it done. About once every 3 months I will be making one of the six cheaper books available for free. The other two books will be available at a greatly reduced cost if you would like to download any of them. They can be viewed here on “Amazon’s Robin Tucker Page”;

fiction: a book with lots of emotion and suspense

my sketchbook, it's all done in fountain pen, and i've removed some of the ones that make me look excessively crazy.

My current setup at home. The theme is silver and black.

I reread this books numerous times. Miller gives us a nice long-term perspective on the role of technology in human development, while Cowper knows how to describe a dramatic climate change. Long before The Day After Tomorrow, but just around the same time as the BBC broadcasting and publication of Nigel Calder's "The Weather Machine", forecasting a new ice age.

Dutch translations (1976) of Walter M. Miller jr., "A Canticle for Leibowitz" (1959) and Richard Cowper, ''The Twilight of Briareus" (1974).

A half terabyte My Book connected to my Mac Mini via Firewire. I'm using it for remote backups of remotely hosted stuff at Redbus Interhouse.

[and it won't stop just because you need it to,]

This is a version of Turndust, an artist's book project I am currently working on. This is an early stage 'storyboard' version. I've posted it because I am interested in seing if I can use community on Flickr to add something to the design process. What do you think of it? What could be improved? What's good? What does it make you think about?

I'm planning to develop the book for screenprint in one or two colours with hand colouring in watercolour, so each book will be a little different, although still part of an edition. I plan to include new versions and working-up on Flickr as I go along.

Since this book is intended as a narrative, it's best read from beginning to end. I recommend looking at the set.

Thanks for any comments.

This book covers the work of James Berry and other Victorian Hangmen in Britain.

On Cella Delavrancea-Lahovary:

“As she passed away and I am putting pen to paper, it is my duty to tell the painful truth, that Cella Delavrancea was rehabilitated only in a superficial way, with the usual restrictions that communism knew how to apply to leading intellectuals, who would not allow themselves to be bribed at any price. It is equally my duty to say that although some of her writings could eventually come to light, belatedly if incompletely and with the greatest difficulty, the public could acquaint itself with her authentic and bubbly personality (after decades of enforced silence) only on the occasion of her centenary.”

I rather like this one. The blue coming through the menubar is nice. New icons for my external drive (a partitioned myBook Pro) and my harddrive after the Great Icon Disappearance.

Last week (July 2008), five Dutch volunteers were raped in Kenya. This book is, among other things, about the mechanisms of rape in Africa. It's an important book, and Coetzee fully deserved the Nobel Prize.

I LOVE BOOKS!

The Little Book of Sufi Wisdom compiled by John Baldock

Today is the second day in the last Islamic month, 2nd Dhul Hijjah 1428 AH, the holy month during which the Hajj pilgrimage is performed in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, culminating with the symbolic sacrifice in honour of the prophet Ibrahim~Abraham, as a feast, Eid ul-Adha.

~ This is a little book indeed, 3"x5", but packed full of lovely Sufi sayings, and sits close at hand on my desk; my favourites include,

'Iman [faith] is a knowledge in the heart,

a voicing with the tongue,

an activity with the limbs.'

~ hadith

'Travel beyond the confines of this life

and see the vastness of His kingdom beyond space.

Let your ear listen to what it has not heard and your eye see

what it has not seen, until it leads you to where you see

the One of the world and all the worlds.

Express your passion for the One from your heart and soul

until your see Reality with the eye of certainty:

There is only One and nothing but Him,

He is alone and there is no god but Him.'

~ Imam Muhammad Ibn' Ali Al-Baqir,

Inner Secrets of the Path,

Sayyid Haydar Amuli

'In the morning the ignorant man considers what he will do,

while the intelligent [read, aware] man considers what it is

Allah will do with him.'

~Ibn 'Ata'illah (d.1309)
