This is our local movie theater and, in my opinion, one of the best theaters around! The screens are huge, the sound is fantastic and every theater has stadium seating. The customer service could be a lot better though..
Here's a hefty wirey breadboard-based bit of fiddling toward my next nixie clock. I haven't finished the first one yet, nor have I given up on it - its enclosure is second in line behind the bookcase I'm making in wood shop. Once that's done the clock is pretty much finished (minor software tinkering still remains).
For the next clock I'm planning a rather different sort of design, so I'm testing out the parts I haven't tried before. I'm going to try multiplexing the display - i.e., building it so that only two tubes are lit at a time instead of all of them, but switch between them rapidly enough that persistence of vision makes it look like they're all simultaneously lit. This has the advantage of needing fewer components on the circuit board. This new clock will use 6 tubes (hours / minutes / seconds) so a multiplexed approach saves a lot of board space.
On the left here is a Soviet IN-12A tube. Its numbers show through the top of the tube, so they're not visible from this angle. On the right, a National NL-5440A. Both of these are rigid-pin, non-breadboardable tubes, so I soldered wires onto a couple of sockets and voila. Works great, even if the tubes with their sockets and wires end up looking like those creepy baby-harvesting robots in The Matrix. (On update, Mrs. W. points out that they resemble Kodos and Kang from The Simpsons, which is a much less chilling [if more slobbery] image.)
I've had some NL-5440As for a long time - some 7 years or so. I've never gotten around to lighting one up until today. They're very handsome tubes.
The 3rd Odeon cinema in Ipswich - a shortlived multi-screen cinema which opened in 1991 and closed just over 10 years later. The town centre restricted site ensured a rather more imaginative design than most UK multiplexes. Designed by Renton Howard Wood Levin Partnership (RHWL).

Plaza Cinema - Port Talbot - February 2010 - Canon EOS 450D - 30Secs - F14
The Plaza Port Talbot opened in April 1940 and closed for bingo in 1983 by June 1985 the bingo operation had also closed and the building was boarded. In august 1985 A local cinema manager and his family took over the Plaza.
By 1988 the cinema's auditorium was divided into four screens ( two in the rear stalls, one in the front stalls and one in the balcony) The front stall's screen used the original screen area.
In its late 1980's heyday it was the only cinema between Swansea and Cardiff and was the busiest independent cinema in Wales. Its striking exterior, friendly staff and giant poster displays are remembered by many residents of Port Talbot.
It was ran successfully as a cinema for 14 years until its eventual closure in January 1999 when the Apollo multiplex opened on the seafront.
The building has been sat empty for 10 years and was recently purchased by the local council with a hope of incorporating it into the regeneration scheme for the area. It is in need of extensive repairs to the roof and the interior due to water damage and pigeon infestation. The building is Grade II listed.
Odeon Multiplex, Lincoln Opened in October 2001 with 9 screens - architect unknown at present - and continues successfully today. It is undergoing a gradual refurbishment, screens 3 & 8 seen here have been refitted, whilst screen 9 is awaiting updating. Seating capacities range from 102 upto 366.

April 2015 view of the former Hoyts 6-screen multiplex in William Street, Fremantle. The venue closed on July 21 2014 to make way for the Kings Square project, along with the adjacent former Myer building. Hoyts maintain a presence in Fremantle operation the nearby Millennium 4-screen cinema complex a short distance away.
At the time of this photograph the site remains abandoned except for some ground level shops with the winning design for the redevelopment just awarded and developers awaiting commitment from tenants in the redeveloped buildings.

For years before opening Cinema 16:9, David Titus had made a hobby of collecting pictures and information about historic theaters in the Philadelphia area. Disappointed by the mass-market cattle call experience of the multiplexes and longing for a time when movie palaces were exciting destinations in their own right, David Titus began to work out plans to create a 21st century moviegoing experience that had the personal touch of early movie theaters, the technology of the 21st century, an eclectic mix of great films, and a wide selection of excellent concessions offerings. In March of 2009, David along with his wife, Phoebe Titus, opened the doors of Cinema 16:9, located in the Historic Lansdowne Theater. Cinema 16:9 is a micro-cinema with 2 screens, a total of 100 seats, surround sound and full HD projection. Not only does it show a wide variety of the best independent, foreign and classic films, it also features a series of weekly events like Terrible Tuesday, where the audience gets a chance to mock a terrible film, 8-Bit Warrior Wednesday where for $5 people can come and play classic NES and SuperNES games on the big screen, the bi-weekly Kinderhour where young kids and their parents can come watch entertaining short films and meet other parents and kids, and the 2011 Best of Philly Best Movie Night winner Dinner & a Movie on Thursday nights were people can buy a discounted ticket for a movie then eat a discounted meal from some of the best local Restaurants.
Forest Cinema, Walthamstow. Opened as the Empire in November 2014, this was the first purpose built complex for the circuit, previous sites having been take-overs. It was designed by Pollard, Thomas, Edwards Architects, who also designed the rest of 'The Scene' building. It has 9 screens, including an Impact Screen, and a large 309 seat auditorium (Screen 9) with a vast curved screen. The Empire circuit went into administration in 2023, and the multiplex was closed and became badly vandalised before a new operator (PD Management Ltd) was found. It reopened as the Forest Cinema in September 2024 and has proved very successful.

Backlot Cinema, Blackpool. Blackpool has a new town centre, first-run cinema again - the 9 screen Backlot Multiplex which opened in March 2024. The architects for the scheme were Covell Matthews, with interior design by Burrows Little. The largest capacity screen is the 264 seat Imax screen (the screen is 10.85m tall and 19.87m wide), with the smallest coming in at 32 seats, often used for private screenings and meetings. There is a strong community ethos within the cinema, with discounts for local residents, Parent Club, Golden Age screenings, and involvement with Festivals.

Saturday, May the 24th, 2014 IChiOne touches down at Toren to celebrate its 10 year anniversary. Lovers of deep bass and complex rhythms heed the call for this 10th year anniversary, as IChiOne programmed an amazing line up.
This is also the penultimate Saturday in the existence of Toren , the Amsterdam underground club of the moment, will be closing its doors for good the 1st of june .
IChiOne parties are blessed with its tranquil atmosphere and amazingly welcoming, yet earthy hospitality, so feel welcome to be a part of this once in a lifetime experience.
Although IChiOne prefers the underground and resides in the shadows, during this event IChiOne will make the night as bright as day.
