I've gotten a bit better at postprocessing, and I just found a neat noise-reduction plugin for GIMP, so I decided to take another whack at the shot I took on Day 6 of my little adventure, that being pretty much the first picture I ever did any postprocessing on.

CAREY MULLIGAN as Daisy Buchanan in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ drama “THE GREAT GATSBY,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.
A multi-alarm fire severely damaged the former Mulligan Elementary School at 1855 N. Sheffield Ave. early today. The school, which has been closed since the early 2000s and was being converted to 24 apartments, was completed in 1889. CTA service, which runs on tracks directly east of the building, was disrupted due to heavy ice on the tracks. The temperature was hovering near 0 when the photo was taken.
... but I couldn't resist trying out a "new" lens - a Nikon 135mm F2.8 Ais ( bought from Shazar at Berger Bros.).
Wow! Creamy goodness if I've ever seen it!

Close-up of top of gravestone for Isaac Mulligan who died April 25, 1776. Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. I don't know what the symbol shown in the close-up is. I wonder if it is supposed to symbolize a phoenix? Taken in 2007. Or alternatively, it could symbolize a thistle, as many of the people who moved from Pennsylvania down North Carolina in the 18th Century on the Great Wagon Road were "Scot-Irish" and the thistle is the national symbol of Scotland. Or it cold symbolize a type of anemone flower that was native to Pennsylvania and not native to North Carolina. Anemone flowers have a long tradition (predating Christianity, but adopted by Christianity) of symbolizing a young life cut short.
Wow....Handsome Man Dog has been at Casa de Russell for a month now! He has adjusted so well and is turning into quite the looker. His stats haven't changed much over last week's ~ only 1/4 inch at most on all measurements. He only gained .4 pounds but he's up to 57.8 ~ almost a 19 pound gain in four weeks! He still doesn't want to eat much in this heat, so we're adding just a little ice cream every night in addition to the normal cottage cheese and vanilla yogurt that he gets with his kibble. One BIG milestone ~ this last week Kiki the cat was drinking water out of Mulligan's water bowl while he was eating...and then they licked each other! By the time I got the camera, Kiki was wandering off. Maybe next time!
We all had a great time at The Ballpark; it was nice seeing so many dog lovers with their pups. Kept the babies cool with lots of iced water, soaked the towels they were laying on in cold water, and then had a fan on them when it seemed like they were getting tired of the cold water. We spent so much time making sure the dogs were ok we didn't really see much of the game! Mulligan was MUCH better behaved than Maggie. He plopped down on the cold towel and lay right next to Keith. Maggie, on the other hand, was either in my lap, panting on the poor guys in front of us, or stepping on Mulligan so she could see what he was doing. Very sad that your foster has better manners than you own dog. Think she'll stay home next year!
I got this job as a snowball effect. I shot her sister's volleyball and so got the bride's senior portrait. Then I got the wedding that summer!
